Kogan 27" Curved QHD 144hz FreeSync Gaming Monitor (2560 x 1440) $379 + Delivery (Free with Shipster) @ Kogan

570

Was looking for a cheaper price for a 27inch 144hz monitor that was also 1440p. Free-Sync is a bonus I guess. I'm not too bothered by the VA panel.

There is also another promotion going on where you get 7 QFF points per dollar spent ending soon.

  • how is this different compared to the aoc

  • Is this good tho

  • On paper this is one of the most VFM gaming + TV monitor out there

    • VFM?

      • +1

        Value for money

  • Interested in the panel make from those have bought this previously, and how that compares to the new budget CJG5 series Samsung have just released.

    • +1

Is pricey tho at 529$, if it falls under 400$ will buy and replace my 590D (4k 60hz freesync)

      • They should do soon enough. There's student discounts available from Samsung, though they're still listed at the original MSRP in AU when that's already dropped to about $500.

If US pricing is any guide, that discount would take it to $350.

      • Edit: nvm it doesnt have Freesync

    • It's supposedly a Samsung VA panel - not sure how I can validate that, but would be happy to if there is a way.

      • +1

Yeah I got that from the listed specs, but a little looking around shows me there's only one VA panel it could be: a variant of the LSM270DP01 from 2015-2016.

So it's the same VA panel that's in all of Samsung's 27" 1440p VA gaming monitors, with the possible exception of the CJG5, but it's likely a B-grade panel.

        • Is that good or bad?

          • @chriise: This typically refers to the number of subpixel issues, and thus possibly the underlying panel quality and TFT powering it. Different manufacturers have different standards for this, but in this case I'm guessing it's the tier down, so there's a few extra detected issues.

You almost certainly won't notice an issue out of the box, but there's a higher probability of more subpixel failures over time.

Can anyone chime in on if this monitor has options for 60 and ~100hz refresh rate?

Concerned about tearing on more demanding games I'll only be able to run <100hz

    • +1

Just cap your framerate or if you have an amd GPU use freesync

    • +2

Yes you can - however I haven't had any issues running some games at 80-90 fps

    • tearing gets less noticeable on higher refresh rate so you wouldn't want to lower it. if you want to eliminate tearing use freesync or even vsync, the delay caused by vsync @ 144hz is also less noticeable.

  • Does it look weird if placed side by side with the monitor on this deal?

    Especially when both are curved.

    • +1

This one would be much sharper. But from the looks of the allied monitor it should be fairly fine, especially seeing as both (seemingly) have thin side bezels.

  • Which Panel type. Is it tn vs IPS?

    • VA panel. You can find comparisons online but short answer is: much better than TN but slightly inferior to IPS.

      • Depends on your eyes but for me VA is a lot more than slightly inferior to IPS. I have a curved Samsung VA monitor and a Korean IPS monitor and the Korean is miles ahead of Samsung VA (even though Samsung is also Korean!) in terms of colour reproduction.

        • Colours are always better on IPS. VA has better contrast I believe.

  • I got this on presale for 360. I had to send it back over the weekend. Half the screen was defective. Looks like it was running on a CRT filter.

example to show what i mean

  • Wow, I paid a lot more for my AOC AG271QX, a flat TN version of this! :o

  • Any good for Xbox One?

  • Got this recently. Think its a great monitor. No issues at all. Games look much better compared to what I had. Things look smoother and colours are far more vibrant/deeper than I what I had before (a 27" regular Asus VE278Q TN panel).

    • Good to hear. did u previously have a 144hz monitor?

      • Nah it was just 60hz

  • For those without Shipster it is slightly cheaper on eBay with the 10% off code (and cash rewards 1%):

  • I got the Astivita 32" monitor from Amazon for under $300.
    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B07BF3YGVZ/

I think this is better, 32" flat is just too big, you have to move your head to see the edges.
Curve screens are much for the larger sizes.

Plus the Astivita is only 75Hz and colours seem to be darker than usual. And the speakers are crappy.

If only I could return the Astivita and get this instead… ? …

    • how ridiculous will it look to have two 27" curve as dual monitor setup? I have two 24" monitor setup and its taking half of my table in terms of length-wise (corner to centre).

I'm dubious about Kogan as a brand - anyone had experience with their tech? Is this just a whitelabel of another brand?

    • I've got two of their monitors and one of their TVs.

One of their monitors is a 24" 144hz TN, which I absolutely love but the stand is garbage, and viewing angles are atrocious. I've also got their 27" 1440p IPS which has awesome colours, viewing angles and a better stand, but there's an insane amount of input lag meaning it's very difficult to play games on.

My Kogan TV is fine, great value at the time, it has one stuck pixel on white from the factory. It had an inbuilt DVD player that ended up scratching disks, but I had an external so it's alright.

I'd say go for it on this purchase, it's a gaming monitor so it'll have reasonable input latency, and the VA panel means colours / viewing angles will be decent. QC isn't going to be as good as a brand like ASUS, LG or Samsung, but as long as you keep your expectations reasonable considering what you're paying for them I'd say go for it.

See my comment above. It is the same monitor as Viotek of which there are a few reviews online

Delivery is over $20 so it isn't free with shipster.

    • Depends where you live, delivery is $11 for me.

      • Delivery is $26 in perth.

This monitor is pretty good. I am currently using it and, other than a tiny bit of bleed on pure black, is solid for the price.

  • Too bad it isn't 4K

    • High refresh rate is generally for gaming.
Computers aren't able to handle most games at 60hz on 4k without lowering settings, let alone 144hz

  • Mine arrived yesterday, after buying in a previous deal..

Picture quality seems to be very decent, a very noticeable improvement in smoothness at 144hz compared to my old 60hz screen, colours are good. No USB hub or any bells and whistles. The stand is very solid (full metal), but only tilt adjustable. Speakers are okay, but not very loud. Menu system is very basic. The kit includes metal stand-offs that appear to allow the screen to be VESA mounted, but I haven't confirmed this.

In short - it's nothing special, but if it's just for casual use and high framerate gaming, it's fine and very good value at ~$400.

What's the freesync range? I'm only running an rx480 so will struggle getting over 90 or so fps on most games depending on settings (and the game obviously).

    Edit: found it, nice 48-144!

Also noticed 5ms response which sounds a little input laggy to me? Anyone who has one comment on the input lag/responsiveness?

    • Anything 5ms and under isn't noticeable IMO.
TV's generally are noticeable but its not a huge difference

    • Under 5's generally fine. Specially for something like this.

  • So this or the AOC31” withGTX1060 playing Fortnite?

hmm anything above 27" is a bit big, especially for gaming. IMO anyway

      • Considering the$100 price difference

      • Agree - depending on how far away it is from you. 27" is maybe slightly too large for my preference with it ~65-70cm away. 30" would be okay if I could push it a bit further away.

    • Would want to be running at 1080p with 144hz to maximise it on a 1060.
Will still need a better gpu to handle the resolution and refresh rate

  • [This LG monitor ?] (https://www.harveynorman.com.au/lg-31-5-inch-32gk650f-qhd-ga…) i m comparing it with AOC (cheapest one) but i hate that it can't do height adjustment, Samsung and this kogan (with shipping cost not much different with LG monitor) . any advice plz or should i wait for boxing day.
