  • Not sure the description matches the product…

    • I believe OP Copied Paste from Amazon AU, which has the wrong description.

  • I think this is version 1 so not 1080p

    • -3

It's version 2, which is Arlo Pro. Version 1 is Arlo and uses 4 batteries per camera. Version 2 is 720p.
Arlo Pro 2 is version 3 and is 1080p (and much better)

      • The Arlo Pro 2 is only "much better" if you have it plugged into a 240v power source (then you can set up reaction zones to save false triggers from trees etc).

If you are using the Arlo's wirelessly (or even with solar panels), the Arlo Pro's are the pick $ wise.

      • The world doesn't think of it that way mate. "Arlo 2" might be the third iteration, NFI, but it's what we ALL mean.

    this is version 1 Pro

  • Anyone can recommend a good brand? Swann, Arlo, or any other brands?

    • Definitely Arlo if you’re not gonna be keen to run wires which I wasn’t.

  • I have this and it’s awesome. Image quality could be better but it suits our purpose of watching the dogs and the front door. Had it for a year with no problems!

    Good price!

Couple of things not obvious from specs or reviews are that these original Pro cameras do have better audio recording and better night vision in open areas than the Pro 2.

Also note the Arlo Ultra was announced in the last few days (but could take months to show up on the Australian market if the past is any guide).

I keep seeing Arlo get recommended as security, but the reviews I read are never good. Any ozbargainers wanna give their 2c?

      Read my comment above.

      • Thanks. Do you use any other function aside from monitoring your dogs? Like setting up alarms? Anything you're not happy about? What's the quality of the image streaming from within your own home, and away from home? The review of the arlo on Amazon mentioned taking 10 seconds to press buttons on the app in order to arm the alarm, any comments?

Sluggishness and unreliability are long-term issues with the Arlo app and website. Forget about using Arlo to check who's at the front door before answering, for example. They'll be walking away by the time it shows up in the app. Prepare to be frustrated when you get an alert in the middle of the night and pick up your phone hoping to see right away what triggered it. The app might keep you waiting for 30 seconds and show your cameras as 'offline' before eventually sorting itself out, or randomly expire your session and require you to waste time keying in your login details.

          • @Jabba the Hutt: Hmm haven’t experienced any app slow down here. Still as fast as when I got it which is pretty quick. I also get alerts re the front door usually within seconds of someone being there. Could it be your system? Do you have the pro?

The pro 2 does address the few second delay between detecting movement and recording.

They also recently added pet detection. I think you have to pay the subscription for this though. I haven’t tried it.

            • @blergmonkeys: Jabba and Blerg - could you please tell me waht sort of broad band you are on at home? NBN/adsl etc?

              • @schwinn: I've got 50/20 FTTN with telstra. It's pretty solid. Maybe it's a connection issue for Jabba? Or maybe I'm one of the lucky ones? Not sure to be honest.

I am using a hard drive for backup. Perhaps that is speeding things up on my end?

                • @blergmonkeys: that's what I'm thinking, that the network could be the issue. Well at least it's good to know that there are some perfect systems running out there.
