JBL Link View Smart Display $199 C&C or + Delivery @ JB Hi-Fi

60

Seems like a good price for this Smart Display; not as attractive as the Google Home Hub, but better sound for those more into that (especially if looking to add to a multi room audio setup).

If you use the Wicked Wednesday 5%, will bring it down to $189.05, though I don't think it will stack with the $10 voucher (as both codes are considered "coupons" that can't be used with each other)

  • Do these kind of gadgets get updated with features from Google (when Google updates Assistant)? Or are you tying yourself up with JBL?

Will this work with other Google Assistant devices like Google Home Mini (broadcasting messages, multi-room audio etc)

    • -1

since google wear OS, google started limiting the OS customisations for OME's. But i'm sure u cannot get to opt in to get Beta features to test out.
in short answer, u will get updates normally as google hub. and does this one have webcam?

      • It's got camera that only works with Google Duo afaik. They work the same as Home Hub but better speakers and has a cam

  • Was keen as I have a JBL Flip 4 and a JBL Boombox (awesome, awesome sound!) which pair via JBL connect + so cater for up to 100 devices but read this q&a on the JBL site. Bit of a dealbreaker if I can't have them in sync, I do have a google mini from a Telstra deal but unsure if there's another way to have my speakers in sync? Haven't used home automation before.

Can the Link View be used with the JBL Connect software and another compatible JBL speaker to create a stereo environment?

Unfortunately, the Link view is not built with the Connect software and would not be able to get connected with another speaker. The Link view is built with Google Assistant which you can give out commands by speaking to it.

    • Any of the Google Home speakers and I think the Lenovo can be grouped and played in multiroom

      • Needs a software update which the JBL hasn't gotten yet.

    • +1

Probably have to plug a CC Audio into your other devices if you want to group them with the Link View

    • Just an idea… One way you might be able to link your existing JBL boombox is to buy a Chromecast Audio Adapter for it, assuming Chromecast audio's can be added to an audio group in Google Home.

  • can we stack this with 5% discount?

  • Some earlier reviews were saying multi-room wasn't possible but coming, but according to the JBL site, it has the tick against multi-room (so I assume yes, but haven't personally verified).

  • cheaper here. :)

    No android, no go.

  • Who has one and rates it? Been looking at getting one for a while. the 5% off might convince me…

I've had one since last weekend but paid $229 from Harvey Norman. It is definitely worth it for this price. In the US Best Buy are selling it for USD250, so this is a steal.

It does all the things I expect of a google home device with the convenience of touch screen controls, voice control for video and music is great.

Having a kick A#$e speakers makes it perfect for our lounge room. The video calling to smartphones having Duo is a definite plus for me as the kids can now easily say "hey google call mum/dad/grandma" etc to get in touch with us without having to use a smartphone or VOIP phone in the house.

The only slight negatives are the screen is very reflective and not quite as bright as the home hub or Lenovo assistant, but still quite nice. Also Netflix cant be cast directly to this device and support is limited like for all Google home devices. I can still use it to say "Hey google play <Netflix movie title> on Projector" to start streaming to my home theatre.

      • Thanks, picked one up w/ the 5% off.
Also got the JB rep to knock a Chromecast Audio down to $50 to link up a dumb outdoor speaker.

I'll also consider grabbing a JBL Link 20 if the price is right to put on the other end outside for it's portability + waterpoof (spa) + Built in Assistant :)

Will definitely need to get a wireless AP eventually, just waiting for the NBN to hit to justify bandwidth.

  • I don't understand why not just use the phone / tablet to do such thing? If you need a good sound, simply connect the speakers.

    • +1

Some people like the limitation, so people don't spend ages glued to the tablet playing games or something.

Sensitivity to the wake up phrase is also better than most, if not all, tablets.

At this price, it'd be better priced than most tablets with an added speaker system.

It makes a great device for the coffee table or kitchen bench. In our family we have kids who rarely have a charged up mobile phone on hand. I plan to use mine as a way of automating a lot of home control functions such as seeing and talking to people at the front door (with a Nest Hello doorbell), video calling elderly relatives. Checking weather, sport, news and when the next bus to the city will be leaving. Sure you can do all this on a phone or tablet but not as easily with and often with more language translation errors.

  • Please note this doesn't get updates like the Lenovo has. Android Police wrote great article the other day about how Home Hub / Lenovo etc aren't on feature parity.

    • +1

I believe all updates are pushed through from Google, but do not expect this or the Lenovo devices would get all the good updates or as often as the Google Home hub. As far as I know the JBL and Lenovo devices should have the same software features right now. Recent updates working on the JBL are swipe down to see home control options and the ability to group speakers. Let me know if there is anything else the Lenovo does that the JBL is lacking and I could test it.

    • FYI I picked one up today, had to update when I connected it. It seems to have Multi Room and Home View on it already :) So whilst future updates might be late, at least those that jump on this deal will have the "latest software"

    I picked mine up after work, set it up, and integrated into my Google Home multi-room speaker groups. It's pretty much as the reviews say (I have a Home Hub too);

It doesn't look quite as nice as the Home Hub, the screen isn't as nice either, nor does it seamlessly adjust the brightness to the surround, but does seem to operate exactly the same as the Home Hub, and (the main reason I went for one of these) it integrates into the Google speakers groups as easily as the Google first party devices, and the speaker quality for music playback is not only levels above the Home Hub, but pretty good (to my ears) in its own right.

  • I got one a week ago. I replaced my Google Home with this. I mainly use it to play music and JBL has got the best speakers. Google and Lenovo have got good screen but the audio output is not that good. Very happy with the purchase.
