Physiotherapists don't recommend these for any one. Best to use those muscles, or lose them!!
Commented on in Aldi lift chair deal

Aids to get out of chairs easier are a better option - also sold by Aldi.
Can't comment on Aldi quality though

These are perfect for when an old person has major surgery (heart bypass) and cannot use their arms to assist them getting up in risk of tearing the stitched chest wide open.

Agreed, they are not good for permanent use

Still a bargain at $400 for an electric recliner, even if you don’t use the lift up function

Physics means some of us simply can't get up, and no amount of faith and wishful thinking can help that.

Can your supply a source for your claim? How can something else help where it is impossible?

        • Talk with a physio if you can't easily get out of a chair - for best solution for you.

I taught both my elderly parents the physics of getting out of chairs easier. They wanted to use their arms to lift them out of the seat as they had always done - which was not necessary. (Arms are good for stability.) Most able bodied people don't use their own weight & gravity to assist them. Aids to standing from a chair use these principles & give something to hold on to to assist. eg
(Search "how to get out of a chair")

And getting assistance means not using (and weakening) the very muscles that would help get people out of their chairs. In my Father's case that lead to a rapid decline in his mobility after 2 months use of a lift chair.

As I wrote in the linked comment, I had asked several physio about a lift chair for my Father I cared for. I thought it was an obvious solution to help me transfer him out of the chair.

Their response was what I wrote above. They said studies & assessment by funding bodies had concluded lift chairs were not recommended for anyone. But that's the business Physios are in.
(Search "lift chair not recommended" - there are different views & some recommend the chair only with exercise to maintain leg muscles)

There will be a few situations that may be helped by these chairs. But talk to a seller & the benefits are endless (like their profits)😉

There is a lot to consider & varies with individual requirements. But use in my Father's case was a very bad decision. It led directly to a rapid decline in leg muscle strength (despite regular physio), mobility, independence (required assistance to sit), dependence on chair to stand, falls, hospitalization, and finally loss of mobility in a Aged Care Facility in just a few months.

I have a similar one my father bought while dying of cancer. It has been very handy with my every other year slipped disc and resulting pinched sciatic nerve. I should repair the control cable for the massaging function.

Wow! I could DIY Hoyts reclining cinema experience at home :D

    • PU and PVC finish… YUKKKKKKK

      • +2

mr sheen that pvc and slide right out onto the floor, baby!

        • Lol. Unfortunately sliding out onto floor is an issue with use of these chairs with some frail people. As muscles waste with lack of use, the legs fail to support them in standing…
