What's Your Best Hard Rubbish Find/Haul?

I've had some really great hard rubbish hauls over the years. I've always been a bit of a hard rubbish pirate and dumpster diver so I've had some really good finds over the years, but today I think I hit my mother-lode.

Today I got:
1) LG 42LD560 (1080p, 100hz, smart functions, well reviewed) working fine. There was a Hitachi TV there also I am thinking of going back to get!
2) Brand new hot pink Lorna Jane shoes in the exact size my gf wears.
3) 2x 3/4 full Marc Jacobs & Ralf Lauren perfumes.
4) Samsung Gear VR (has been opened but protective plastic still on!).
5) Swanky SMEG microwave that still had the protective plastic on it! I ended up going back home and trading my disgusting microwave with it.

I'm going to head back there and see what else I can find!

EDIT:
6) Asus tablet
7) Large jewelers screw driver set
8) 2x Sagemcom NBN modem routers with AC wifi, USB3 and 4x gigabit ethernet ports.

Going to go back in a few hours and might find even more!

What's everyone's best finds?

  • I don’t really do it but my partner always comes home with random crap. Last time he got a broken MacBook Pro, he fixed it pretty easily. He also got a bunch of LEGO but the sets weren’t complete.

I once found a lawn mower. Problem was it was half full of grass clippings but on the flip side it had a full tank of fuel. Worked great and was still warm when I found it!

  • Picked up a rowing machine minus the cable, found a cable at home that worked and sold it the next day on Gumtree for $400 

I found a bunch of Nikon and Canon camera gear. Some of it was old but most of it less than 15 years old. There were a couple of D90s, a D300S, a couple of D7000s. But the real gems were the lenses. A 70-200VR - the first version. An 85mm 1.4D. Also a couple of SB-800 flashes. I couldn't believe my luck! Unfortunately then I woke up.

  • A broken printer.
    Thats it :-p

I brought it home salvaged the motor assemblies and scanner for my hobby electronics projects.

  • Fully working wii u with a bunch of games and controllers

The thing that really annoys me are the people who have absolutely no regard for the way things have been positioned for collection. They rummage through looking for the things they think are of value and then leave shit lying around. Have the decency to put them back on the pile or at the very least out of the way for pedestrians. I have seen so many footpaths being obstructed after scavengers have been around.

  • There was an old kids wooden cubby a block away from me, nabbed it and turned it into a chicken coop after a few modifications.

  • My Mum's neighbour moved out of her house and dumped so much stuff out the front. She said we could have all of it.
Best things were wooden chairs, lead crystal bowl still new in box, a Louis Vuitton handbag, and lots of house bits. It was a great weekend, we went and checked on the pile of stuff every hour because there was new stuff on it all the time. Mum got a new sewing machine!

  • buying a bed from gumtree from an upmarket house . Next door neighbor throwing tons of good condition appliances. I ended up taking a working portable air conditioner.
Traded it for $250 on a very hot summer day some months later.

  • I use to love going through the local rubbish collection as our area was mainly retirees villas. The old stuff tend to be the best, as its mostly well made items, hard wood and restoreable. Most of my house is furnished with restored items off the kerb still.

But the two most memorable find was a full lacquered decorated Singer sewing machine + full iron cast pedal turn wheel + wooden table. I listed it on trading post (Yes the paper version about 20 years ago.) and a shop from Bowral bought if off me for a cool $850. I wonder what I actually sold for as they seem to know their stuff.

Other item is still with my parents. Looked like an old wooden coffee table but was heavy as hell for its size. Turned out was made out of a solid slab of Lebanese cedar and worth a bit now, as most are plantation cedar wood with poor grain patterns.

  • No hard rubbish collection days where I live anymore. Just on-demand collection and I can't be bothered going to other neighbourhoods to scrounge through other people's rubbish.

    • That is just stupid, since most houses don't have enough stuff to fill up the whole truck in one go.

  • I use this item without the mounting brackets whoops wrong thread

Townie bicycle that I sold for $400

Sometimes when I'm thinking about buying something I pray to the roadside gods to provide and I find it the next week

    Some good finds:
    - Fully specced out almost-new Macbook Air (Working - It had liquid spilled on it and had claimed insurance)
    - Breville dual boiler coffee machine
    - 6 month old wine fridge
    - Random unopened lego sets

    • what about dignity?

  • A betty boop statue in the bin that had some chips in it, about 3ft tall. Sold it for just under $300 on gumtree.
