Subnautica is fantastic. Bit sick of different storefronts but competition is a good thing I suppose. Already got Steam, Origin, uPlay and Battle.net installed.

    • You're missing gog, Bethesda, and epic. And actually one more I forgot I had where you play for a while and it's yours to keep… Gamesessions - do they have a launcher?

Surely someone is going to create an ap to manage your other storefronts so you don't buy the same thing twice… Or have to remember who owns which game.

      • Huh Bethesda has it's own client?

        • +1

Yep, fallout 76 and quake champions. So not really necessary obvs.

    • +1

For me its Twitch as I've got Amazon Prime and get free games every month.
Worst launcher as it always updates every month I open it to download the new free games.
Games cannot be paused or resumed so some of the large 10+gb ones are waiting for download.
And all games are given weird long names so adding to Steam is also frustrating.

      • +1

No the worst "launcher" is the Microsoft Store games. They go out of their way to hide the game and give you little control over it. Took me ages to figure out where the files for Forza Motorsport 7 were.. in some secret directory WindowsApps and you can't read it even with Administrator access and then it's a different name (Apex? Apollo?)

        • Tried to add forza games as shortcuts on steam…NOPE. Dheads at microsoft don't even let you do that!

Subnautica ic sun awesome game! My son has had it since beta about 3 or 4 years ago and still plays it. Now we just got vr and it’s brand new again

  • +2

First I've heard about this and won't say no to free games. Hope it offers the option of in home streaming. Thanks sss333.

    keep us posted :)

  • Stoked. Thanks OP. Great find!

It still says coming soon for Subnautica, is it 14 Dec US time?

    • Must be

      • +3

        Around 4pm-5pm today hopefully

        • better make it 4-5 am tomorrow :)

    • Waiting too!

    • as of 8.45pm AEST 14/12 looks like epic uses US time

    • +1

Yep. But it's the 14th now. Maybe we have to wait for the guy with the keys to open the door and start his computer ?

    • I'm seeing the same thing but it's been the 14th for some time now across the US.

  • +2

I bet I’m going to wait and wait and then completely forget

    • Don't forget (PSA). Hopefully you message me back in an hour. Let's keep the reminder train going.

    • +2

Added it to my library now!

  • Any one able to download it yet?

    • It's only 9:31pm in LA, atm so I think it'll be another 3 hours.

      • nothing yet :)
        maybe a couple more hours?

  • Still Nothing

  • To those that are posting about downloading, i believe they should be going by US time, and as America tends to be behind us by about 6-12 hours (depending on where in the US)… we should be able to download some time within the next 12 hours.

    Be patient, haha.

  • Epic Games HQ is in North Carolina (on the East Coast of the US) where it's about 5AM. I'd guess it won't be made available until business hours which will be in about 4 hours.

Might be a good idea to get the client downloaded now as they'll probably get hammered once it goes live!

I don't think server load will be an issue when they have every person under the age of 15 worldwide pretty much simultaneously logged into this client all day every day playing fartnite

It's the 15th now, where is my free game :P

  • +6

Must be live now, website won't load.

    • -2

      username checks out

    • Looks like you're right, just started showing up as free a few minutes ago.

    • +1

      Yep, I just 'bought' it.

  • +4

It's live now. Just added it to my account.

  • +2

Freebies are appreciated, but I don't like the way the digital marketplace is going: separate clients for every publisher. The same thing is happening in video streaming.

  • Stuck on loading?

  • +2

Only happened to install the launcher as Satisfactory is coming to only Epic now… Was just creating a deal for this and the beaut deal submitter let me know this deal had been posted. :)

Apparently Epic games screw the dev less then steam so a bunch of devs have started flocking to them, their platform still needs a lot of work though.

  • +1

"Download Epic Games Launcher"…. cant be bother a separate game client for two freebies

    • +1

'Add a non steam game to steam' can come in handy there :)
Only thing I hate is that Blizzard games (profanity) up with steam especially overwatch.

      • -1

…then it'd be like playing a game that has two layers of DRM….

  • I'm reading some comments from the r/gamesdeals post, and it looks to be that some company behind Epic is less than reputable. I'm kinda worried; is going through with this worth the risk?

    • If you're super paranoid, run the game in a VM?

    • The only thing dodgy was that the email thing was opt out, rather than opt in. Other than that, theres nothing to worry about

  • +6

Just remember everyone, even if you set a reminder for this when the deal started, you can make a new reminder for like 29/12 so you can get Super Meat Boy once that gets up too.

  • Just downloaded the Epic game launcher and it doesn't support OSX El Capitan 10.11.6 which is the best i can do on my early 2009 Macbook Pro even though Subnauticas min req are only 10.9 guess im outta luck there.

    • You should be able to run High Sierra on that machine using this http://dosdude1.com/highsierra/

      • +1

Cheers, i have looked at that work around before but as this Mac is already alomst 9 years old and still running great i don't want to Jinx it by swaying to far from an officially supported OS for my set up. Will probably just go back to PC once this dies or a good bargain come up ;)

  • +1

Can you play this on Linux?

    • +2

Neither the launcher/downloader nor the game have Linux versions, but the game apparently will run under wine.

  • so a free game every fortnight during 2019? is this how it is?

  • So originally (i.e. last week when it went live) the copy of Subnautica that the Epic launcher was installing was completely standalone and didn't require the launcher at all. But now they've updated it, it's hard-linked to the launcher and account used to "purchase" it. No idea if it can run without an active internet connection but wouldn't be surprised if it's required.

    • Yes internet connection required unfortunately but once logged in it works without connection but don’t know if it saves

      • Luckily I downloaded it on two different PCs and the other one still has the DRM-free build.

  • +4

    Super meat boy is live

  • +1

How did I miss this :(

  • Just a headsup for the privacy nerds. Give the Epic games EULA a read. By accepting you're basically allowing them to spy on you. It's pretty atrocious.

  • What's the next fortnight's game?

  • Super Meat

    • +2

I can't edit it anymore, makes it worse now the mod made it bold haha

  • Damn, missed Subnautica.

  • is this pc exclusive? doesn't appear to be supported on mac

    • +2

Looks like yes, I could get and play Subnautica but not Super Meat Boy

  • Is anyone else having problems receiving Super Meat Boy? I'm getting the error "This product is currently unavailable in your region" when I follow the link. I don't use a VPN and I was able to add Subnautica over a week ago.

    • +1

Was fine for me, what country/region is listed in your account page?

      • +1

I checked that just now and yes, that seems to have been the problem. I believe I was abroad when I first made my account years ago. Thanks for the suggestion.

  • +1

    Good find OP.

  • +1

Just got my copy of SMB. Thanks again.

  • Wish they had an offline mode

    • +1

Don't know about Super Meat Boy but the DRM for Subnautica is just a username/serial check at startup - the launcher passes them as command arguments, you can grab the command line using Process Explorer (or similar) and make a shortcut so the launcher isn't needed (and it runs with no net connection).

      • Interesting. Do you have more details on this? I had to activate the hotspot on my phone just to launch the darn game >_<

  • Anyone know how to change the language? Mine defaults to Korean.
