this javelin series thermometer is certified for commercial and professional use.

Ha! The pro's just poke the meat with their finger. It is the amateurs who get pretentious about 2 degree precision and "stabilizatin alerts".

I'm no pro, so I do need a thermometer, but my $10 ebay job is still going strong. (Just don't buy those black cylindrical ones that are all over ebay).

If you want fancy, the wireless remote ones are good for roasts.

These are far superior to the ebay ones. Its not just the accuracy that's important, its the speed. These will give a reading within 2-3 secs vs ebay ones can take anywhere from 10-30 secs to settle to the actual temp.

      • not worth it
        considering these cost $70

        I don't care about 10-30 sec difference

        • Probably not for home usage, but big difference in a commercial kitchen

Thanks for a great example of how pretentious purple can get over cooking gadgets

  • Do vets use this one?

  • Any recommendations for wireless app enabled ones?

Considering the Weber iGrill 2 (with 4 wired thermometers) or the Meater 2.

    • Haven't used Inkbird but they're pretty well regarded. From what I've read their app needs some improvement though

I have an Inkbird and would recommend.

    • I got the Weber iGrill 2 and it's great for low and slow or smoking. Works a treat. The only thing I wish it had was WiFi and the ability for me to access it if I'm outside the network.

I think some Inkbirds have the WiFi access, which would extend the range for me.

$20 for a different make but one I've used for ages with no faults

Also super quick to obtain a reading.

and cheaper infrared one too (can't vouch for this one I'm afraid)

  • I got one of these, it works really well. We use it all the time in the kitchen or in the BBQ. Great to know whether your meat is properly done.

  • This model comes up every few months on Massdrop. I got one for $US36.74 delivered last February.

  • Can get these things for a few bucks on eBay.

  • I've got one of these and it's excellent. Wanted a couple more for Christmas presents, but the shipping is $133.70 to South Australia. Hopefully they sort it out!
