Where to Buy Brymen Multimeters?

Hey folks does any one know what shops stock Brymen multimeters? They are sold under Cabac Brymen here in Australia? Going to the Cabac website i can not find what models they sell. They only show the Flir branded meters in the DMM section.

I am thinking about buying the eevBlog BM235 but i would prefer a higher 8 series model. They come highly recommended and are a better price point than Fluke. Apparently they also have a lifetime warranty. I would prefer to buy in Australia for warranty reasons.

I watch Joe Smith channels on YouTube and they seem to be fairly robust and the models tested have survived 10kv surges which is above the standard.

(Edit) Website loads all meters now.

Sweet :D

  • I just googled Cabac Brymen and found options to buy, as well as a phone number for the retailer/distributor.

    • Yea i only get 2 shops must be more suppliers than that.

      • Call the distributor. Or buy from one of those places? Why do you need more?

        • Yes they don't have the model i want. Plus prices at the second shop are ridiculous.

          I'll give Cabac a call.

Kind of pointless posting here to just call them. I'm sure some one knows a seller that they can recommend.

          • @aussieprepper: It is kind of pointless when you can make a 60 second phone call, that was sort of the point. If you want to buy from Australia, it's going to be a rip off. Have to get it from overseas if you want reasonable prices for anything normally.

    • Thanks! I've seen the site before they had a Hioki meter i wanted but decided not to get. Wasn't sure if the sites legit.

  • +2

Ages ago Jaycar did. Not sure now. 20 years old and my original battery is still kicking!

    • Do you use the meter much? I've been through a few sets in my UT139C.

Is it using a 9v battery? the newer models are AA/AAA.

  • I thought i would update this for future reference.

I ended up buying the upgraded package of the Brymen BM257s from Welectron it worked out cheap enough for a good meter. The extra (plus) package included a carry case and the upgraded probes they appear to be the same probes found on the eevblog BM235.

The total was 99 Euros including an extra PayPal fee. You can also avoid the PayPal fees by paying by card. Welectron remove the VAT charge automatically for overseas purchases.

Welectron offer free shipping to Australia for the slowest shipping meh good enough. The free shipping appears to be on the smaller meters only or else i would have gotten a Brymen BM829s which is only 116 euro without VAT but the cheapest shipping option is 40 Euros, This price is still super cheap! For the BM829s.

TME offer the BM257s for 101 Euros + 20 Euros shipping and that is stock without the better probes so Welectron appears to be the best price. Brymen Europe sell the meter for 99 Euro but no Australian shipping option.

For comparison the BM235 is about $150-160 shipped from Dave @ eevblog here. The meters (BM235/BM257) are very close almost identical in features. Also X-On have the BM257s shipped it cost $240 AUD i paid about $165 from Welectron. Plus the probes alone are around $30 AUD

    • I followed your advice here and purchased the BM257s+ from Welectron.

As you say, the BM257s is almost identical, but for the little extra money you get:

      • a bar graph
      • crest (min/max) function
      • higher bandwidth (10kHz AC, 1MHz logic vs 440Hz AC, 50kHz logic)
      • higher current rating (10A vs 8A)
      • optional PC connectivity

But since the BM257s is older than the BM235, you miss out on:

      • better EMF detection (multi-range)
      • better diode check (3.2V vs 1.8V)
      • 'better' backlight (white vs orange)

You can also get a 5% discount on Brymen and Siglent gear from Welectron using Marco Reps code "marcoreps5" from the description of this YouTube video: https://youtu.be/fRjXSbXZLmM. Highly recommend the channel, by the way.

Shipping seems to have changed since your post. Welectron now only offer free shipping in Germany for orders ≥80€, or within the EU for ≥100€. Shipping to Australia starts at 19.90€ for express, and 39.90€ for standard (weird that it's backwards). I worked out prices (using XE conversion rates):

      BM235+:

      • $170 (sale) + $15 case + $19.51 GST + $10.13 Shipping = $214.64 AUD (EEVBlog)
      • 83.95€ (excl. VAT) - 5% (marcoreps5) + 19.90€ delivery = ~$171.53 AUD (Welectron)

      BM257s+:

      • 91.60€ (excl. VAT) - 5% (marcoreps5) + 19.90€ delivery = ~$184.13 AUD (Welectron)

I'll probably have to pay GST to get the delivery cleared through customs, so I considered that cost when deciding between the models.

I opted to pay using wire transfer, and found TransferWise has pretty good rates and no fees for the first transaction when referred: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/333640. Amazing user experience - I was very surprised.

      • To me, the features of 257 over the 235 are useless. I mean, pc connectivity, bar graph, crest and bandwidth? When are you going to need/use them? Diode check alone is better on this. IF you are an electrician, fluke 117 would still be a better choice, otherwise 235 is just fine.
