    How good are TOSLINK/Optical compared to HDMI 1.4?
    Any reason I should connect my laptop via Optical rather than HDMI for audio?

      Optical is usually meant to go from your Media Device (WDTV/ Apple TV/PS3) to your Amp/Home Theater, because most TV's won't passthrough 5.1

      TOSLINK/Optical can only do compressed audio such as DTS, Dolby Digital, and PCM 2.0.

      HDMI has greater bandwidth and can therefore transmit uncompressed audio formats including LPCM 5.1/7.1, DTS-HD and Dolby True HD.

      But you need to check whether your laptop outputs audio via HDMI.

      An intresting thing to note is how the cable is advertised as being gold plated.
      As an optical cable, being gold plated shouldn't impact anything but the price.

    I have a single HDMI source that I need to goto 2 TV's. Do I need the splitter or can I get away with the 3 in 1 out switch and use it in reverse ?

    Device -> TV1 and/or -> TV2.

    source can be on either TV just as long as it can go to both TV's.

      You need a HDMI splitter, a switch won't do.

          Updated price on the splitter. NOW 36.99 for 1unit (was 69.9 which was a bit too much).

          We don't sell remote extenders unfortunately.

    hmm i hope the 1m and 3m hdmi cable head are the same. From the product picture displayed, it looks different. Will be great if the supplier could provide an ans to this.

      They have the same specifications but have a different design. The 3M version is fancier looking and it costs relatively a bit more.

    I have another brand, but it's not very 'snappy' when changing sources.

      The item you are referring to costs 29.69, it is shipped from Taiwan. whereas the splitter we are selling goes for 36.99, it includes GST (plus other relevant taxes such as customs duty we have paid along the way), it is shipped from Australia and therefore delivered quite faster.

      There are many splitters that look the same but come from different manufacturers. Components used might be different and the costs since it probably comes from a different manufacturer as well. The description page does not contain much spec information so hard to tell

      In any case, Australian HDMI related businesses don't try to beat price-wise every single item overseas and Australian customer don't tend to expect them to do so as the service level are different, the cost of doing business in Australia are different…

        I'm sure the refund policy would not be up to the same standards as HDcitys'.
        And if it's defective, the cost of having to ship it all the way back to Taiwan would undoubtably outweigh the price difference.

      I ordered 2 hdmi cables and 1 TOSLINK cable last night and paid by paypal standard(instant bank transfer), but the status is still showing pending today, what was going on there?

        It is a small misconfiguration from the shopping cart that I think I have resolved. In some of orders payment shows "pending payment" even though we know the payment has been paid and are already processing the orders. On the majority of orders the already goes automatically into processing.

        In case of doubt send us an email at sales-at- hdcity.com.au would gladly confirm you quickly the order is ok.

        EDIT:

        issue seems solved. All payments paid by paypal are now showing "processing" :)

    Do you do any long (about 7.5m RCA cables? I have an old satellite set top box which still runs on RCA's… trying not to spend too much money to keep it alive, I notice you have a component to HDMI converter but I prefer to save some money and also let my TV do the source switching.

      In lengthy cables it matters but for 2m cables 30/28awg will do. Our <3m cables are 30awg.
