Techfast PC Summoning Thread and Discussion 2018

Status Edit* Received the PC. No critical issues.

So while I understand it's Christmas and they've been swamped by recent orders I'm also getting tired of checking Star Track to see if they've sent my order yet. The idea for this thread is you post what you ordered, when you ordered it, whether you've been assigned a tracking number yet and if you got your PC yet. This way maybe we can get some idea of how long we'll be waiting.

Also might be informative for future techfast deals if when you get your PC you updated your forum post with what brand of components you got as well as what condition the PC arrived in.

Shipping Status

  • Order Date: 27 November 2018
  • Tracking Number Asssigned: 6 December 2018
  • Estimated Delivery: Tue, 11 December - Wed, 12 December 2018
  • Date Shipped: Edit - 19/12/18

PC Components

  • CPU: Ryzen 2600
  • GPU: MSI Duke RTX 2080
  • Motherboard: Asus Prime A320M-K
  • RAM: Team group 1x8 2400
  • SSD: Allied 120GB
  • PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower Grand RGB 850W 80+ Gold (bought an upgrade with the same 15% off discount code, 850W is a bit overkill but $169 seems like a good price this higher tier PSU. In a couple of years I may but a new MOBO and overclock the CPU so having the extra power is nice)
  • Case: Leaper PRO RGB Case

Condition of PC / Review

I spent some time looking around the internals but I haven't actually pulled anything apart as I don't want to risk the warranty unnecessarily. Everything arrived undamaged (although star track just left the PC on my front door without knocking/signing which is a bit shitty). Cable management is fine, better than I could do but not necessarily super clean / impressive mostly due to limitations in the cabling itself. Unlike some of the other experiences posted here I saw no issue with the installation of components, everything is where it should be and the GPU has a support plate too so there seems to be minimal flex despite how fat it is. They also left some stiff foam inside the case to provide further support to the GPU during shipping so it seems like everything arrived in perfect condition.

Overall the case looks great and is extremely light and has thumbscrews to remove the side panels. I'll post some pictures a bit later but the combination of RGB from the case, the MSI Duke GPU and the RGB PSU looks amazing at least by my usually more reserved standards. A minor annoyance is the glass side panel (it's actual heavy glass) has nothing to support it when you're screwing in the thumbscrews so you have to awkwardly hold it in place till you're done. The bits of the glass panel where the screws go in also look a bit rough but this is only noticeable when the panel is off as usually the thumbscrews cover this up. Consequently when you're opening up the case it feels like the glass side panel was some kind of retrofit that wasn't part of the original design. This isn't really a big problem in my opinion as you usually don't need to open the case except for occasional cleaning.

—————Actual issues that I care about

  • I have no idea where to install any additional HDD/SSD in a way that isn't dodgy. I can see some holes that may take screws but I'll report back and see how I go. Compared to more expensive cases this is a bit of a let down however honestly given what I paid I have no issue with duct taping my SSD in place lol.
  • There's what seems to be a few small patches of rust or red paint stuck in a corner within the case (overall about 1cm square in size) which is disappointing however it appears to be only cosmetic in extent and is only visible if you put your head inside the case.
  • Thirdly due to the small size of the A-320m-k motherboard you can't access any of the smaller PCI slots as the RTX 2080 is phat AF. This isn't a really a fault of Techfast but it is a flaw in the build itself that people should keep in mind.
  • Finally they haven't sent me my BFV code yet but I've sent a message and I'm sure they'll be in touch soon.

—————Value of techfast vs self-build

I got the R5 2600 RTX 2080 + BFV package with 850W PSU upgrade for a total price of $1528.

  • MSI Duke RTX 2080 - Staticice cheapest price is $1329
  • Ryzen 5 2600 - Best recent ozbargain deal was $200
  • Thermaltake Toughpower Grand 850W RGB PSU 80+ Gold - Cheapest staticice price is $175
  • Battlefield V for PC - $49

So that's $1753 worth of parts/game for $1528 not taking into account labour, shipping and the other (admittedly cheap) parts.

If I'd done a self-build I'd have been able to get a cheaper PSU of the same quality in the 550-750W range, better quality RAM and also a better motherboard that let me overclock the CPU. So this approach is definitely not without its flaws. However I believe there was still a lot of great value here especially for those who are OK to have some compromises in their rig. Overall with just the price of the GPU and CPU I'm breaking even so even if I were to build a whole new PC and re-use those components it was still an OK deal.

—————Conclusion

Overall I'm extremely happy with my purchase especially since I got the Duke GPU. I'll write back and report how the PC holds up long term but I've got a lot of faith in the Toughpower 850W PSU, so as long as Star Track didn't break it somehow it should be fine.

the one with the big diagonal stripe on the front of the case that goes multicolour. There's a button haha?

        • +1

Yep, the one that looks like a restart button.

        • Don't underestimate the power of RGB. It'll increase your frames by 100%.

Is there anyone who received second hand RX580?
I just got biostar gpu and the sysyem is not working when I plugged with power and monitor.
I opened inside and saw this gpu is NOT NEW AND USED SECOND HAND PART WITH DUST.
I guess maybe they put some mining gpu inside.
I will upload some photos soon. What a headache!

    • Might be possible they accidentally picked a returned part rather then a new part. Make sure to get in contact with them.

    Here is the link.

I ordered RTX2080 system and this however I won’t use both as The one I received Asus is too loud with single fan.

This RX580 with 27 monitor bundle is not working at all so I will return it. I had to invest my time to pick the parcel up from the post office and install in from home and this pc is not working.
Furthermore they put second hand part inside. What a joke.
Never ever again with this guys.
It would definitely better to built my self with second hand parts from Gumtree as I didn’t even expect they put second hand faulty part inside!
    Be aware guys.

    • Wow, that's really deceiving. Never knew TechFast would do such things as I myself received all brand new parts. That's just very unfortunate and ridiculous that TechFast would go that low. I really hope everything goes well with you Jerome. All the best :)

    • Hey Jerome,

That is really concerning to see. This is the first time this has ever happened and the reason just has to be that a faulty/RMA card somehow made its way into your system. We have been undergoing pretty major renovations, which would account for the dust in the card, and I can only think that this card was incorrectly sorted or put in the wrong pile…I'm not sure. It's obviously a major error and I apologise!

Of course, you are entitled to a replacement or a full refund, which I will ensure happens straight away, whichever you choose.

I'll be happy to take this up with you via PM if you'd like further assistance.

      Luke

      • Thanks for your quick response and support of my situation.

I understand that could be happened as you guys got a lot of orders in short time.

Hopefully my new replacement tower will be arrived as soon as possible as your team member already booked for picking up the tower.

Thanks again for your help Luke.

  • Anyone know what I need to mount a 3.5in HDD into the leaper case? it's meant to come with a 3.5in drive bay but i can't find anywhere to stick it?

    • Howdy, a 3.5" drive can be mounted vertically on the "grill" metal that is behind the RGB front panel, on the interior of the case. Two screws go in from the glass panel side, and another goes through a small circular hole from the solid panel side.

Edit - the above is for the Leaper Pro, sorry.

The place for the Leaper is screwed directly to the base of the case, but depending on your GPU there is not generally much clearance there. It fits, but is tight for airflow so we use 2.5"s in those cases for that reason.

      Luke

      • Exactly what I was looking for. Curious to hear where the other mounting slots are as it seems the case should be able to fit multiple 2.5” drives too.

  • Finally received mine. Ordered 26/12/18 and received 06/02/18 (6 weeks).

Is it normal that the case fan (SYS_FAN1) runs at 100% all of the time? It's a 3 pin connector, plugged into a Biostar A320MH Ver:6.0 (Not the Pro).
I also had a missing case fan which after enquiring about will be sent to me.

    • The fans for mine (CPU as well) were running at 100% and changed a setting in the BIOS I believe to auto or something. Don't have the PC with me since it was for a family member (so can't confirm 100%).

      • Thanks for the suggestion. I did have a look but there is only options are to enable or disable PWM (4 pin connector). Enabling PWM didn't make any difference, probably because it is not a PWM fan.

Maybe Tech Fast ran out of PWM fans and threw in a 3 pin one?

        • +1

Hmm maybe the case fan was running at 100% still. But it definitely fixed up my CPU fan speed.

    PRIME H310M-K
    Galax Rtx 2080

CPU cooler wasn't attached when when I received it and a fan cable not in socket. Case is kind of beat up. Disappointed in receiving downgraded Mobo this thing is also running hot!

    Will keep upto date

    • +1

Hi burns, you definitely should have received a B360. Can you PM me and we'll work out a solution? CPU cooler not being attached can only have happened in transit, which matches the case being beat up. Let's get it sorted.

Ordered 19/12/18. Received it today 12/2/19. I requested for the PC to come unassembled so I could hopefully receive it sooner and also sell off the parts I didn't need in original boxes/OEM packaging. I informed them that I was flying off on 23/1/19 and if they weren't able to deliver it by that date, to instead hold it til I got back (8/2/19). I had the hope that it would come sooner if unassembled but this wasn't the case.

Anyway I received and opened it today with some disappointment. First of all it came fully assembled. My wife was looking forward to building her first PC and I had all the other parts ready to go (New PSU, RAM & SSD).

Secondly I noticed parts of the case had some bronze coloured markings on it indicating possible rust? There was a bit of dust on the PSU as well which https://imgur.com/gallery/a2TQMr9

Thirdly I'm not sure if it's normal procedure or not to keep the invoice date as the date they receive funds for the order. In my case invoice date is 20/12/18 but it was not ready even by the time I flew off on 23/1/19. Last time I ordered a Sony A7III from Ryda and there was about a 5 month backorder wait time for it. When they finally sent it, they adjusted the invoice date to the date they processed/despatched the item. Othewise I would be losing 5 months warranty and unable to claim TRS on it.

In other words because of the delay of Techfast, does this mean we lose >1 month warranty?

I've messaged Luke and the eBay team so will just wait for their response either here or through my eBay/ozbargain PM.

My case had similar orange dust / rust markings on that interior section.

Ordered: 18 January 2019 (Requested it to be shipped unassembled)
    Delivered: 21 February 2019

    CPU - Threadripper 1920x
CPU Cooler - Corsair H80i v2 (Missing T4 mounting bracket)
Mobo - ROG Strix X399-E Gaming
    RAM - MISSING
GPU - MSI GeForce RTX 2080 VENTUS
    SSD - Allied 240GB
    PSU - Thermaltake Litepowwer 750w
Case - Thermaltake View 37 ARGB

Extremely pleased with the components I received, however there were two issues with the shipment as listed above
    1. Missing RAM (maybe they forgot to pack it into the box before shipping)
    2. CPU Cooler missing bracket (probably due to my request to have it shipped unassembled, as it looks like the cooler doesnt come prepackaged with a Threadripper mounting bracket)

Have sent a query to their eBay account and now waiting.

    • +1

Update: I figured out I was an idiot and that the TR4 bracket was actually included in the CPU box. Although, in my defenseless I thought that it would normally come in the CPU Cooler instead.

For the missing RAM, they were quick to follow up and even overnight shipped it to me so that was great.

Only disappointing thing was that the RAM is the ugly green PCB with no heat spreader on them. But expecting top quality RAM at this price would be asking a bit too much.

Overall very pleased with the components and after sales support received from these guys.

All the listings on their eBay page are gone? Is there any particular reason for this?

    • I'm not completely sure but I remember reading somewhere that techfast ebay was their temporary store to sell things until they had their website up and running properly. luketechfast should be able to shed more light on the topic.

      • I thought they said their website was temporary. We'll see

        • So apparently they removed their ebay listings temporarily to catchup on the backlog of orders they have. They also said there will be a sale around the nearest public holiday (presumably easter)

    What I ordered:
    Ryzen 5 2600 RTX 2080 8GB + 27" Bundle: $1599.02 eBay

    Order Date: 09 Feb 2019
Pick Up Date: 22 Mar 2019

    What I received
    CPU: Ryzen 5 2600
GPU: Galax RTX 2080 EX-1 Click OC 8GB
    Motherboard: Biostar B45M2 (B350 chipset)
    RAM: 2x8GB G-Skill DDR4 2400MHz
    SSD: Allied 240GB
    PSU: Thermaltake Smart BX1 750W
    Case: Leaper PRO RGB Case
    Monitor: 27" Allied 1ms 60Hz Gaming Monitor (FHD - 1920 x 1080 resolution)
    Keyboard & Mouse: Allied Wired

Happy with the end result. Took way longer than expected, tried messaging via eBay but never got a solid answer. Luke on OzBargain was very helpful.
I live in Adelaide, so I chose pickup. Their office is in Beverley which was out of my way, so I messaged Luke to get them to post instead, which he organised.
After inquiring again on 22 Mar about the delivery date, Luke mentioned that they had sourced some parts and gave me the option of picking it up that day, which I accepted.
Earlier, Luke had mentioned that I was going to receive the MSI Ventus RTX 2080 in my build, however I received the Galax instead as that was what they could source quicker. I enquired to Luke after I got home and opened the system - note that it came in a packaged cardboard box when I picked it up in Beverley. He assured me that the Galax performs as well - or even better - than the MSI Ventus on performance tests that they had run, but gave me the option of swapping it for the MSI Ventus when it would arrive. I couldn't be bothered taking it back, so kept the Galax and Luke threw in a couple of extra game codes, which was nice.

Monitor is a bit meh as it is only 1080p and has a few stuck pixels. For 27", one expects at least 1440p these days. Keyboard and mouse are also really flimsy, so will be added to the pile of discarded components and cables pile, but they are 100% usable and do the job.

Have added a really old 250GB HDD I had laying around for now as the SSD filled up really quickly with the games. Will add an M.2 SSD when they become more affordable.

Has anyone figured out where to mount the second front fan on the Leaper Pro RGB case?
The build came with one pre-installed (which sits directly behind the HDD bay, mind you), but the specs say there should be 2 front fan positions, just wondering where the second could possibly be?

  • +1

Wondering if people can throw me some ideas from this old Post. I bought the https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/436344 . Any thoughts on what should be upgraded / future proof this set-up? Or what would you do personally.

I've been wondering a bit about the rgb fans and what not. I don't know if I should bite the bullet and go ahead to purchase not knowing if pieces are compatible/ and will they all fit.

    • Hey mate, have you upgraded it yet? I can give you some advice if you’re still wondering.

  • Bought my PC on the 4th. Shipped on 13th. Been sitting at the StarTrack depot an hour away since the 14th. Went to pick it up today and they told me to come back when they call to tell me they've grabbed it from the warehouse. No call after an hour of waiting in my car, so I head back in and they tell me they can't find it anywhere and to call the support line and open a case. Call the support line and get told off for going to pick it up instead of waiting for a parcel that was never coming.

Prepare for headaches with StarTrack if you order. Luke and the team have been really good with questions etc so can't fault them. Hopefully they can sort this out for me quickly.

  • Mine arrived today (2600/2080 Galax) but I’m getting no video output from any of the ports. Tried reseating the GPU (and RAM for good measure) but no luck. Any ideas?

Power is there since I see the fans on the GPU asking up and then down a few seconds later. Case lights and fans all on. Just no display output. Tried both HDMI and DP.

I messaged Luke but because I’m impatient I thought I’d ask if I’m missing anything obvious.

    • My mate had the exact same issue. Did you manage to resolve it? He's thinking of returning it through Paypal but he said that he'd get charged a fee and lose money there - is there any way he can get his full money back?

      • Still ongoing but Luke and Callum have been super responsive and helpful. Even sent me a second GPU to try and see if it works. Your mate should contact them ASAP especially if system was dead on arrival.

        • Alright I’ll let him know to do that then. Thanks!

          • @Zazer: eBay messages may be slow so if you need to try and reach out to luke on OzBargain. That being said for returns etc best to go through official eBay channel.

            • @jace88: He doesn't use Ozb but just checked with him and he has made contact with Callum through eBay, and they're sorting out a replacement GPU or a full refund. Thanks for your help!

              • @Zazer: That's great to hear. I can't emphasise enough how great the support/communication has been with Luke and Callum for my situation, but alas I've come to realise that it wasn't for me.
