Is $209 a Good Price for an Asus Rt-Ac68u or Am I Likely to Find a Better Price after Christmas?

I want to get a new router as I'm currently using an old iinet one (no longer even on iinet), and after a lot of research I've decided to go with the Asus rt-ac68u, as it seems to be the best one that I can afford.
I don't think buying from eBay is a good idea simply because I can't tell which of the listings are genuinely Australian stock and not imported or refurbished.
Most sites I've found are advertising around $225, but I have found one place with it for $209. It's a smaller store, and says it only has one left so I'm a bit worried about waiting for boxing day sales and missing out.
Does anyone know if this is a good price for it, or if there's likely to be a decent discount to under $200 on one of these sometime soon?
Thanks.

I don't think that's a very good price. I bought mine a few years ago for $180, and later sold it for $150

    • Really? Wow. Thanks. I guess I'd better wait. It's annoying that almost everyone is currently charging $220+ for it. Some stores are even claiming that they are usually over $300.

Wow I just checked mine, purchased 25/11/16 - paid $186 after an ebay 10% sitewide discount. Will hold out if I were you, if you are able to wait. Great router though!

I think the price could go down under $200 but won't be as cheap as in the past, as you need to consider that even with Australian Stock it is still ship from oversea so Australia Dollar drop, the sell price will goes up. Cheers

    Check prices on www.staticice.com.au

    • I have been checking there, but several of the stores with cheaper prices aren't listed.

Why this particular router? The price is so close to one with mesh capability to expand in the future.

I'm thinking of the Ubiquiti Amplifi HD which is $225 RRP

    • Is there a benefit to mesh systems other than larger coverage areas? My place is small and I'm unlikely to move to a large home anytime in the next decade (if ever).

        No benefit then.

Having said that, you may want a less powerful router and use a small area mesh. Less projection into neighbouring units.

        But that will cost more.

    • As far as I know the AC68u series is mesh compatible now after firmware update. (I have the DSL-AC68U and it is mesh compatible.)

  • Why not rt-ac86u

      Because it’s significantly more expensive
