Email about a Mortgage Application I've Never Applied for

I checked my ISP email that I don't really use anymore - maybe login once every few months.

In the inbox is legit looking email from 7 days ago about a mortgage application that I have no knowledge of:

Dear (my first name), contact us about your mortgage application (ref: #####)

Mortgage Application
Dear (my first name),

We've encountered an issue while processing your mortgage application.
Before your request will be completed,

  1. You must visit www.mortgagepush.com.au/apps/ and enter mortgage application ##### number.
  2. Enter your full name, after that choose "View Details"
  3. There a particular product or service you were interested in.
  4. You should cancel or verify enquiry within 48 hours.

Lower down in the email it has my ISP email listed as well as my correct mobile phone number.

At the bottom of the email is the details of the person and company sending the email including contact number, ACN, address.

Is this attempted identity theft? Phishing scam? Or something else?

  • Site redirects to compareTheMarket, if that's the actual link (not just the text copied). Have you ever been there? Might be a stuff up on their back end.

Obvious Spam. You didn't apply for a Mortgage, so just ignore it.

    • But how does the email have my mobile number on it?

      • Check your credit report / credit score. It should give you some optics whether there is something sitting there.

Alternatively- ring every loan provider and ask (kidding).

The credit check is probably the easiest check if you concerned.

Use this - don’t want to provide bias who I use. Government site.

Scroll half way through and they offer 4 different providers.

You were there over a year ago, so that's probably why they have your phone number.
