    • What do you mean by “terrible”?

      • +1

The Aldi ones were randomly turning on and off for no reason.

        • Did you do a software update ? That is what they used to do but a software update fixed it and no more issues. I use them with alexa to control Christmas lights

          • @denz02: Yeah, which fixed that issue. The plug outright died a month later.

      • Xiaomi ones would only work sporadically and continually dropped settings
The Gearbest-sourced unit stopped working after a few months

The two Belkin ones I have are rock solid. One controls my pool's chlorinator has never missed a beat

        • My zigbee-based Xiaomi smart plug has been rock solid since Day 1. Controlling an outdoor water fountain

    • Belkin do not supply smart products to Australia at the moment since they were sold, there is certainly a question whether they will become available thru Apple.

    • Belkin products are brand-name and over expensive for what you get.

  • is this based on Tuya?

    • +1

Yes it is. The ALDI one, the Mirabella one and this Bunnings one are all using Tuya

      • So does that mean that this Homebridge plugin ought to work? https://www.npmjs.com/package/homebridge-tuya

        • [So does that mean that this Homebridge plugin ought to work? ]

Yes, I can confirm that this plug works with the Tuya Homebridge plugin.
Configuration is easy, if you follow the instructions carefully.

Also, the plug does not support power measurement like the Medion Plug does, but its 1.5 amp USB power outlet is quite handy. USB power is on all the time, even when the plug is off.

  • At the moment there are about 4 companies that bring in WIFI smart plugs. TP-Link, Mirabella, these ones and Aldi. Mirabella and these ones have the USB that is not able to be smart controlled only the plug. With all of these smart plugs, you need to install the app, and you can use the app to control them or if you have Google Home or Alexa they can be added to become voice enabled. These ones appear to be the cheapest on the market at the moment.

  • Can anyone explain this On/Off Situation?

The plug is always on right so always using electricity?

I'm guessing the ability to turn all the other plugs that are going through this on your smart phone is the key so those pesky "offline modes" that still suck.

Anyone know the power usuage of the unit for being on 24/7 constantly waiting to recieve?

    • I don't have the actual power consumption but it is minimal as it needs to remain connected to your wifi, so you are able to control it either remotely thru the app or via voice command with google or Alexa.

      • A HSS-110 would help with Energy Consumption monitoring, but I don't know if that includes the plug?

    • [Anyone know the power usage of the unit for being on 24/7 constantly waiting to receive?]

The standby power is less than 0.9W, as stated on the box. That means that the plug will use about 7.9 kWh per year in standby mode.

  • I picked up a couple of these from bunnings this afternoon and have set them up with the brilliant smart app and they are working well, just struggling to get alexa to learn the skill for voice control, when I type brilliant into alexa skills it opens up a different companies skill? Any ideas?

  • Worked it out, had my app store default US from back in the day, fixed.

  • So the relay just controls the mains outlet I'm guessing? USB is constant on?

  • Bought 2 today and I wasn’t able to set up either of them so I returned them. My vivitar and tp-link ones were so easy to connect…this was a nightmare :(
Such a shame because it’s a good price.

    • +1

I watched the setup video's and a few button-pressing compared to the tplink.

      • Yeah I tried everything they suggested…no luck unfortunately.

        • +1

Try the iOS version of the app instead of Android if that applies to you? Worked for me with another brand.

  • Does anyone know if these can give a power meter reading (via the app)? I've seen some WiFi switches that can do this.

    • +1

No, these don't, though nice if they did. The TP-Link 110 does, but that's triple the price.

  • Anyone comment on the range of these?
I'm going to use them in the garage so it's a fair bit away from the WiFi AP.

  • This could actually be really cool! My google homes i think are effed, and every now and again, i have to get up and go and unplug the usb from the powerpoint, and replug to reset it, to reconnect to wifi. I could just ask google to reset the chromecast power :)

  • What smart apps does it use? I got a couple of Hyleton's from Amazon and they work well with the Smart Life app. Would prefer to use the same app.

In saying that I could only get them setup on iOS not Android. Once setup I can control from Android and Alexa.

    • Just looked at the app for Bunnings. Exactly the same app rebranded.

  • Just got one of these today. Works great with Google home, "ok google turn on the Christmas tree"
    I'll be getting more

  • Title shows $19.95, but price on Bunnings website says $19.98

  • I ended returning the 2 i bought as they stopped working/responding to commands after 1~ day of use.
First day, no problem. Works from the app, works from assistant and works via home. 2nd day they go offline and stop responding entirely until they are reset and added again.

  • how much power does this device draw / consume to stay connected?

    • From the product website "Standby Power: <0.9W"
