  • Sounds like a grey import. Be prepare to deal with hassling eBay grey importer for after-sales service, aka warranty.

Ive bought a few grey products and had no worries, Phones, Mavic pro etc. No issue
Until I broke the screen on my Note 8. Samsung does non warranty screens for $280. But told me to piss off. $500 later at the repairer around the corner and im fixed (WTF)
BUT later I took it to the pool and guess what, They didnt seal the phone and water damaged. Next repairer Brought it back from the dead. But now it eats a battery dead in 6 days (on 4th one)

Bit more careful this one.3 Mavic Pro and 2 x Note 8 for 2018 alone. expensive

      • For those considering, I have checked with Samsung Au on screen replacement cost for note 9 and it is $320 and battery replacement cost is $110.

    • The chances of getting a lemon in a Samsung phone is so low it's not even worth worrying about.

      • I got a lemon on my note 8. Luckily I bought it from jb hifi so they gave me a new one no questions asked. I would always buy a phone from a physical shop from now on.

        • +1

In my view, i agree on getting a Samsung lemon device is pretty low. However, dropping your phone and cracking the screen is another story and no one wants it to happen but it can happen when you least expected it. In that situation, getting a third party to repair the crack screen is problematic with the uncertainty of genuine parts and installation as per manufacturer specification. Samsung Au will not entertain on grey import. Beware.

          • @HL2: Buy using AMEX if you have one and get screen insurance?

  • Wait for Boxing Day sale instead…

Wish the mate 20 pro falls to this price

    • Overall, note 9 is a better unit. But the mate 20 pro camera is superior due to AI processing and camera hardware.

  • OP this should be a lesson the the extra $220 is worth it for Aus stock. Just buy it from good guys. I did too as officeworks wouldn't price match

    • $220 for 2years warranty and local support sounds worth it. I had my S7 2.5 years old and samsung support restored the rom no questions asked

      • The added benefit is when the time comes when the unit battery needs to be replace, you can get it done with Samsung AU. With grey import, good luck on getting an original battery.

  • I bought the note 9 a week ago from jb and not a fan. The battery is not that great. Phone gets quite hot even when watching Netflix. Something might be wrong with my phone but also not to happy with samsung service yet as only providing troubleshooting that i can find online and not having any place in Adelaide I can take the phone to be assessed. All version in Aus are probably using the exynos chipset which is significantly slower than the snapdragon 845 version. So maybe a imported version with 845 would be better , performance wise.

    • +1

Yep the Aus stock have inferior exynos chipset, that's the main reason why I got mine from HK. It's an entirely different product if you care about that kind of stuff.

      • SD and Exynos models have their pros and cons

      • Dose the HK model support all network bands in Australia. If so I might return my one and get a overseas model for cheap.

        • Pretty sure it does. I live in the sticks and have had the best internet speeds I've ever had in a phone.

  • Any way to verify Aus stock? Hot several seller on FB claim theirs are Oz stock but not keep receipt or any paper. How to tell it anyone?

    • +2

IMO this term "Aus stock" is not worth a penny. A oversea model N960FD that is stored in a location in AU can also be "Aus stock" but Samsung AU won't support you.

And do you think ppl that bought local stock from HN or JB for bucket load of $++++ didn't bother to keep the receipt ?!?!?!

  • Think i was lucky to get it for $965 with ow price match policy and headphones and will claim the gst tomorrow. Not have to sell the galaxy gaming skin on eBay

    • +1

You didn't get a snapdragon chipset phone so it's not exactly a bargain when you account for that.

  • Wish there was a local stock dual SIM

    • Dual SIM not much use if u expand storage with msd card

      • With 30GB+ data allowances, 512GB storage + streaming services, the expandable storage is redundant.

    Apu From the Kwik-e-mart ?

  • Obviously doesn't help others. But northlakes office works had a returned note 9 (looked opened but not used) in stock and wanted 1100.
After a big cry of not matching anything I put forward. I ended getting for 1000.
So as is aussie stock and that means a future broken screen will be 280 instead of 500 plus. I'm pretty happy.
