How Can I Claim TRS?

I would like to claim TRS but there are things like perfumes, cosmetics that I purchased from same store with $300+ and watches. I want these things to go in my big luggage but apparently I have to show things to the officers to get my refund.

How can I claim? Isn't it the place to claim comes only after I drop off my big luggage.

Where is the TRS claim located in Sydney Airport?

Thank you.

http://trs.border.gov.au/ Just follow the on-screen instructions.
Edit: Just make sure your on a secure network, since for some strange reason the gov does not offer SSL protection, when entering your passport number.

      Ask an adult :)

    • Present your goods, original tax invoice, passport and boarding pass to an officer at the TRS counter.

As you leave the country, you must wear or carry the goods as hand luggage with you to be inspected by the Australian Border Force (ABF) officers unless the goods are oversized or powders, liquids, aerosols and gels restricted to your packed luggage for security reasons.

You can also use mobile apps to claim things. But you still need to visit the counter and talk to an officer with your QR code before you board the plane.

There is an office in the middle of the arrivals hall, next to the escalators and lifts. Get them to inspect your perfumes. After that, keep them in your checked baggage, complete the check-in process and TRS process as per normal.

I googled "trs sydney airport". The very first link that came up has a section, "Where to find the Tourist Refund Scheme office?", with this information:

"If your purchase is packed in luggage you intend to check in
If you want to make a TRS claim for powders, liquids, aerosols or gels and / or oversized items (such as golf clubs) that you are not able to take on board because of these limits, take your goods to the Australian Border Force Office for verification before you check in your luggage.

The Australian Border Force Office is located on Arrivals Level of the T1 International terminal near the Swissport office and glass lifts. You will need to do this before you check your luggage for your flight."

      • allow plenty of time
the TRS queues can be LONG and slow

especially with people who don't understand English or the rules on what can//cannot be claimed

  • When I left it was early morning and the TRS booth was not staffed.
Just filled in the form, put the receipts in the envelope, and dropped it in the box.
    Didn't have to show anything.

    • original receipts ? or copy

      • Its meant to be original receipts.

        • will they return the original receipts ?

  • Everything you need to know is at this link … TRS

  • Do all TRS items need to be in carry-on to show to TRS staff? I got few bulky tech items that need to go to checked baggage.
