50% off Cancer Council Sunglasses @ David Jones (from $19.98)

1120

First post, please be gentle.
Edit: Seems like some styles have become unavailable for purchase online. You should still be able to find them in stores; I went to my local DJ's last night and there were plenty available. Don't hesitate to call up and ask for stock.

Cancer Council polarised sunglasses currently half price at David Jones, while stocks last. Discount is applied in cart.

Don't pay extravagant prices to continue feeding Luxottica's monopoly, etc. etc. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDdq2rIqAlM)
Edit2: Cancer Council sunglasses are supplied by Luxottica Retail Aus…

See this post for the previous time this deal was up, and for comments and other Ozbargainer's thoughts about these great affordable sunnies.

Also credit to kboomkinesis for getting me into these!
Cheers.

I only see full 49.95 prices- is the discounted ones sold out ? Or does it only discount after being added to basket?.

    • Or does it only discount after being added to basket?

      This

Looks like Clearance has started early going by the end date on this promotion (January 28)

      • Can you tell if any other promotions have started early? Is there a list or a way of identifying the offers?

        • +3

No; I don't work for them any more so I don't know where you think I'll get this information from.

Edit: Wow, a neg just because I said I couldn't help? Not like I could have put the information on a public website even if I did know as an employee 🙄

          • +1

@kerfuffle: No worries, I wasn't sure but just thought I'd check.

          • +1

@kerfuffle: Also, agree, totally unjustified neg

I'm also only seeing full price ($40-60).

    • +4

"SAVE 50% ON FULL-PRICED SUNGLASSES FROM CANCER COUNCIL. DISCOUNT APPLIED IN SHOPPING BAG."

      • +4

Only issue now is that there is no way of adding any of the glasses to the shopping bag. There is no "Add to cart" or "Purchase" icon to click on. Anyone else experiencing this?

        • Ditto.

        • Yep.

        • -1

I'm guessing this is because they have no stock

Yep, i found some ugly ones and you can select them. All the cool ones are gone from their Black Friday weekend.

        • +1

Find them in store and try on some styles while you're at it :)

    • +1

Discount applied in cart. You can find most of these in store, just ring up and ask. The discount can be seen when clicking special offer which states the 50% off.

  • +3

I have had cancer council glasses for years. Really impressed with them.

    • +1

Same, also because they're normally $40-60/pair it's not a disaster when you inevitably scratch them, or lose them. Only catch is I find it a bit tricky to pick one that fits my head well.

      • +1

I normally end up having safety glasses with me.

They are even cheaper, look the same and will probably be better if something does end up coming towards my eyes.

    IT'S NOT A TOOMA

    • Thanks, I edited the post to make this clear.

  • +2

Don't forget 10% cashback from cashrewards (ends tonight possibly?) and C&C to avoid $10 shipping charge

    • what is C&C?

      • +1

Click and collect. Pay for the item online and pickup in store.

  • +2

Many of these are not available, only found 1 pair with an 'add to bag' button on the page. Anybody else getting the same error?

    • Yes, I'm getting the same error. There's no way to actually purchase any of them and they aren't listed as being out of stock.

      • +1

They're in stock in stores. No idea why they removed the online availability, I was able to order a pair before I posted the deal.

  • +1

Are they in shop (brick and mortar) too?

    • +1

      yes, plenty in stores.

  • +1

Great for watersports! This is a real bargain!

  • My partner literally sat on my last CC pair of sunnies thus evening and they bent :/ so thus post is timely but none of the ones I like can be added to cart :(

    • Take them to a nice optometrist who may be able to straighten them.

  • +2

I had no idea about Luxottica. Thanks for the video!

  • +1

Thanks for the shout out! I love my cancer council sunglasses and recommend them to friends and family. I probably have about 9 pairs now 😎

    • They're awesome sunglasses for an awesome price. Good to see yours are still going strong!

  • +1

Great first post OP. I only ever wear CC sunnies, my current pair is ready for the bin and the model I like are available for order!

    • Cheers, hope you enjoy your new pair :)

  • +1

CC sunglasses rock! Good price with superior cover

  • cool, thanks

  • +3

Also 50% off full priced sunglasses from Mimco, Oroton, Witchery, Country Road, Fiorelli and Agenda. Discount applied in shopping bag.

  • Any frames that suit a smaller head?

    • Go try some on in store :)

    • +2

Some of the Cancer Council sunglasses are marked "petite". Not sure what exactly that means but I'd assume it means they might suit smaller heads better?

  • +1

Has anyone actually bought these in store half price…or at least seen them advertised at 50% off? Bit of a pain that they have removed 95% of the male styles from the website.

    • Ring up and ask for stock and to confirm the discount at your local store then.

      • +1
        1. The stores aren't open yet so thought I'd ask for the help of fellow ozbargainers to confirm the deal.
        2. Its f'ing hot.
        3. Christmas Crowds.
        4. It's 45 minutes drive away.
        5. DJ's making stock available/showing stock levels on the website would be much easier.

In saying that I totally appreciate the deal….great sunnies

        • What state are you in? I believe most major DJ's in NSW are on extended trading hours from 8am-12am midnight.

Also I went in my local store last night and they were half price, but I obviously can't speak for all stores because I forgot to ask.

But yes, it is a bit of a trek. All the best in grabbing a pair if you decide to go.

          Cheers

    • I was just in the Sydney CBD store, and they had a small but decent selection. More female styles than male though. I got a pair for myself and a couple for my wife.

    • Yes

For any ozbargainers with AHM Private Health Insurance be sure to check this out
    https://offers.ahm.com.au/ahm-useful-extras
You can claim cancer council products.
Rebates with AHM reset each calender year (unlike most private health that reset each financial year).
Great timing with the David Jones sale to use the rebate before the 31st December
I'm also a huge fan of the cancer council sunnies, they absolutely have some cooler looking ones
    Check out "Barrington"
Similar to Rayban Wayfarers in style

    • +1

The extras cover with AHM is financial year not calendar ,just double checked my acct -Limits reset 1 July 2019

    • It's the other way around. Most limits reset calendar year hence the plethora of ads from optometrists, dentists, PHI etc.

  • +2

Called up the store and got a pair of male CC put on hold. Excellent service from DJ.

    • That's the way to do it! Enjoy your new pair of sunnies :)

  • +1

Thanks OP. Purchased a pair in store. Hornsby NSW David Jones had a range of styles left. About 35-40 pairs available.

    • Awesome! Good to hear there's still plenty of stock left, just people need to call up and be a bit more proactive. Enjoy your new pair of sunnies!

      • +1

Haha I hear you. Lots of spoonfeeding here 😂

  • +2

Dammit, should have put an order in last night. Saw this post quite late, so just had a quick browse on the website, found 2 styles I liked which were available to order and made the "I'll do that in the morning" mistake. Those styles have been removed from the website, and can't go in-store either as there's no David Jones stores in Tassie :( .

    • Maybe try calling and placing an order through the phone? Last time the 50% off happened was roughly this time last year, so if you really want a pair, search Cancer Council's web store for the styles you liked, and call a DJ's store in mainland Aus and see if they can do something for you.

      Good luck!

      • +1

Thanks for the suggestion, but have already tried that -I've bought several pairs of CC sunglasses before, so knew the ones I wanted, so thought I'd give a couple of Melbourne stores a call, but no luck - they can't/won't do phone orders (except holding items for in-store pickup) or post orders out.

        • +1

Aw, that sucks. At least you tried. Since the discount ends on the 28th of Jan, maybe they'll put the styles you want back online for order.

          Here's to staying hopeful, haha.

          • +1

@Garbad: Hope so :). I'm kicking myself for not placing that order last night!!

        • +2

They CAN post. They just won't do it; either they don't know how, it's too busy or they CBFed. It's $9.95 to post phone orders via Australia Post. Try call another DJs store, doesn't necessarily have to be in Victoria as they'll ship nationwide.

I would complain on social media about that if I were you; it's not your fault that DJs have stores in New Zealand, but not Tasmania.

Source: used to do phone orders and send them out at DJs. Free shipping if you pay with a DJs card! ;)

          • @kerfuffle: Good to know! I see from JuliusSeizure's post below that most styles are back online to order so thankfully can do that now.

  • called up to check stock of southland david jones, they asked if i saw it on ozbargain and i said yes, he said oh youre also an ozbargainer, excellent, one moment… and put me on hold, kept putting me on and off hold without saying anything and then just told me they needed to put me on hold but will be right back asap, and 20 minutes go by with nothing.
    cool.

    • -1

Sorry but this is probably one of the only things you should absolutely never do. Why do you need to say you came from OzB to justify your purchase?

By saying so you merely ruin the deal for others and I wouldn't be surprised if it was people like you who mentioned OzB that got most of the sunnies removed from online purchase.

No offence, but you deserved the treatment you got.

  • I phoned up Rundle mall DJs and they put on hold a pair of men's 'botany' style. Picked them. Up this arvo, very happy.

  • +2

These can now be purchased online.

    • Thanks for the heads up . I can't see any limit stated in the Ts & Cs, so it's a bit disappointing that you're apparently not able to order 2 pairs of the same style - if you order one pair, the discount is applied, order 2 (even by adding them to basket separately) and the discount is removed.

      • +1

It's not because of Terms and Conditions. It's shitty programming by the team behind the website (and I would know; I used to work on the same floor as IT and would complain to senior IT management on how shit the website was, and I've been shopping on DJs Online since 2013). I bought three Oxo kitchenware items this morning where it's 30% off if you buy two or more. Only two were 30% off and the last was full price. Sometimes their programming leads to excellent deals, and others you end up in the situation like above yours.

I would go and complain in store to get the difference but since you live in Tasmania, that would be hard for you. So if you're bothered to call up, you could screenshot the offer, buy the two styles at full price, wait until you get them delivered, then call up the Online number to complain that you didn't get them at 50% off and get a refund on the difference.

        • +1

Thanks for the explanation, you'd think they'd make the effort to get things right - I've never bought from DJs Online before and this sort of hassle doesn't really encourage me to do so in the future!

          • +1

@SimbaGirl: The new website was six months behind schedule. If you've been to DJs on the mainland, they only got 21st century registers only five years ago.

Hopefully in 2019, with the sale of the Market Street building and the move of head office to Melbourne over, they'll actually focus on making the website better. The old one was bad enough as it is …

            • @kerfuffle: To be honest, I haven't been in a DJs store for years. I grew up in Sydney and remember in the '70s and '80s often walking through DJs in Parramatta (back in the days when it was located next to the Parramatta River), it was THE upmarket department store then, but very old-fashioned - doesn't sound like much has changed.

        • +1

Very pleased to see the issue re no discount when ordering multiple pairs has now been fixed AND that there's a much wider range of styles currently available (78 on the DJ's website today), so have been able to order the sunnies I wanted.

  • +1

Thanks @Garbad. Just placed my order.

  • can anyone tell me which is the giant-est pair?
