Thanks for the reminder. Wish I could plus-vote you for this.

  • Thanks for the reminder. When does it become worth it to replace a battery?

My iPhone 8 is at 86% capacity according to settings. Worth it?

    • My battery was at 92% and they still replaced it today no issues - and it was an iphone 6 from 2014.

      • Wow, how do you keep your battery life % so high?
I had mine recently replaced and was at 76% max capacity.

        • Not sure why the battery remained so high. I do disable pretty much everything on the phone and spend maybe a couple of hours per day on the phone. No icloud, no news widgets, all the banner/badge junk turned off, no games. Just safari, email, the occasional photo, music, and messages, and youtube - and gets plugged in every day or two.

The 'genius' bar work authorization said

          Date of Purchase: 14/10/2014
          Serial No: XXXX
Issue: Customer presented device requesting battery replacement
Steps to Reproduce: Mobile resource inspector ran
Battery at 92% after 610 cycles

Lately the call audio quality seems to have dropped off. Not sure if it is vodafone. Interestingly when I use the voice recorder app, it records as clear as day.

      • When they replaced mine (iPhone 6) in September last year (for $119 mind) it wouldn't even power on the battery was that toasted. As a second reminder they'll also credit you the $80 difference if you had it replaced before they announced this deal, you just need to contact them about it (they don't make it easy).

  • Can you get the battery replaced even if you've had the screen repaired by a third party?

    • I don't think so. They basically check the phone for after market parts and water damage. If they find either, I think you are S.O.L.

It took 2 hours as well today to get the battery replaced after the gentleman ran his diagnostic.

I think he actually asked me if it was all original.

      Yes

No. I had mine replaced and they explicitly stated they are checking for thirdparty repairs and they cannot proceed if any are found.

    • They'll use any trick in the book to weasel out of honoring the deal.

Wouldn't replace mine because I'd already had to replace the apple battery. They said they couldn't take the risk of removing a 3rd party battery as it could explode. I offered to remove said battery myself so there was no risk to them and was then told I would need to put the old apple battery back in. I no longer had it, but it got bent when removing so would have been more of a risk to them.

  • It’s going to be $105 for the iPhone X.

  • When they did mine they stated that they would recommend changing battery at about 80% …. mine was 86% and they did it… but did state they would not have done it if any third party fiddling!
In Canberra i did a walk in (booking an appointment was a week + ) had to wait for technician to check it (3.5 hours wait) and ready for pick up next day….

Do you think it's worth the hassle doing it even if you havent had any noticeable issues. Wife has a iPhone 6s plus I brought her. Do you just say warranty claim at Apple store.

  • Got mine replaced last week, was told they could kill the phone by accident so make sure you back up, and if they do they give you a new one I believe

Quoted me 2 hours when I get there, but could slot me any other day even though they are booked out

Didn't kill my phone, but realised the day after that they they must of unplugged or killed the rumble/vibrate pack, so I have go back to get that fixed and have no silient mode rip

  • Sent two iPhone 7s in via the post for battery replacement.
One was still reporting 100%, other was 86% I think.
The 100% one came up in the system as under warranty (unsure of purchase date) and it didn't charge me online before I sent that one.
I got both back with new batteries, new front glass and maybe screens (not sure).
Cost me $59 paying for 1 of them to do it via post but there were no questions and they went well above my expectations, even when it wasn't required (I just wanted the best moving forward for my spare phone), my sister was happy with the $59 anyway as that one I picked up 2nd hand real cheap, new glass and battery it was basically a new phone for half the RRP.

No one can ever recommend when to get it done, it's a personal thing in what its worth to you and your lifestyle (unless it's obviously shit itself).

  • My girlfriend took hers in to the Rundle Mall shop in Adelaide 2 weeks ago. They took it apart, highlighted water damage and offered to sell her a refurbish for $500. She declined so they gave her back the phone - and had broken the fingerprint scanner in the process. Bad luck, was their response

  • The reception on my iPhone 7 seems to have become garbage now after the replacement. Not sure why. Gonna call apple today to see if I can get it fixed

  • Terrible experience with service. Went to Werribee iSpeak IT (Apple Authorised). Had an appointment scheduled through Apple Support. However, when I went, the "genius" said, it's out of stock! Called back later to confirm stock and went again. The "genius" again said, (his exact words) "your phone is bent, so we can't access battery".
What a waste of time. Not sure what "phone is bent" meant! May be, it's a secret feature that I didn't know about! Phone works fine, except the slowness (since the night of that OS update)

  • You can buy a replacement battery through Ebay cheaper and with higher mAh than Apple batteries and do it yourself they even include all the tools you need, its fiddly but fairly simple as long as you don't have sausages for fingers…and best of all no driving to a mall to wait in a que for hours only to be told by a "Genius" you don't qualify.
