Couldn't price catch at JB as sold out on telstra website. I'll take it that I'm saving $30 from an impulse buy!

So went into JBHIFI with the receipt they wouldnt honour the price match as the store had no stock

Went into the telstra store next door and also showed them the online price and asked them if i could buy the same headphones instore that were available. They came back and said no its an online price only.

    Ridiculous…

    • Same with Telstra store, but had luck price matching at JBHiFi, staff weren't helpful, had to get manager involved, I was lucky Telstra store here had stock… It helped my cause… Together with 2 JBHiFi $10 gift certificates from ozbargain, only $10 outta pocket in the end for these headphones…

      • but it says "sold out" on the website.

are they still able to do it if it's sold out?

        • Dunno, don't work there… I guess, Manager's decression…

  • Manage to get the last one at Elizabeth St Melb CBD Telstra!

Got a receipt? how can they accept the price on case by case basis?

      • It was the acutal Telstra store and it looked like it was on clearance, last one in stock for that store so I think I got super lucky after going to all the other ones (Melb Central + Swanston St).

        Here's the receipt:

Edit: They had the $30 price marked on the headphones.

        • Telstra store i went to didn't even have tags on anything :S

I paid about $110 for these about 6 months ago and used them daily. Where the 505's shine is battery life and multi device connectivity, they can get a little confused from time to time and need to be powered off every few weeks but it takes seconds to reconnect. Comparing them to my JBL noise cancelling unit that came with the recent Samsung promo, this headset seems to have better bluetooth capability (more paired devices and slightly better range) and has about 3 hours more run time.

The audio quality is OK to good and has a decent mic, they're worse than the JBL's for audio but these are less than half the price at full RRP it's hard to complain. The build seems good, but I treat my toys well so I can't really talk to the durability.

Why I'd never pay $100+ again for the 505 is the comfort and fit. The fit on my medium-large head is only just enough to stop them sliding off, any vigorous exercise and I'm sure they'll fall off. The 505's are on ear closed headphones with a faux leather lining, your ears get really hot and sweaty wearing them. Any exercise or warm weather and I just don't want to use them and default back to my S7's wired earbuds unless it's a really cold night.

For $30 (even sub $60) these are a great price.

    TLDR
    Pros:
    Excellent bluetooth connectivity and range
    Excellent battery life (20hrs)
Super quick charge time (about 30 minutes)
    Decent microphone
Comes with a 3.5mm cable should you run out of power
    Light weight
    Seems durable

    Cons:
    Hot as hell
    only OK to good sound
    lose fit in med-large head

Great real world review. Thank you 🙂

Mine arrived yesterday from the previous $45 deal. Would agree 100% with everything you said. Sound quality is ok for the price but they do get very hot in the gym! I'm used to in ears so I expected them to be hotter obviously but they do hold in the heat and sweat. Not sure how you'd go running in them, could be a little loose and I don't consider myself to have a big head. Anyway, for $30-50 they're still a good buy, would recommend.

Don't bother with the Gladstone, Qld store. Whilst they have stock apparently they don't price match their own website.

  • +1

JB hi-fi Macquarie centre would match it at $50 in case anyone is interested.

Telstra hornsby wouldnt sell at that price and telling me to go to macquarie store.
Jb hifi hornsby just laughed at me after seeing the price so dont bother going there

Officeworks hornsby refused to price match saying "its a different model". They said their 505 is different version

  • Absolutely spewing, why was I asleep

My partner just got the last one from Telstra Bondi Junction. The salesperson was surprised by the price, but it scanned at $30 so that settled the matter.

    • That’s good to note that they scan at that price.

Everyone that’s tried to purchase from a Telstra store & were told no. Could go back and ask for the headphones to be scanned.

Probably an automatic, nation wide reduction in their system.

      • I said that to hornsby telstra and they told me they're licensee(franchisee?) store. They wouldnt even scan it for me

        • +1

They’re probably breaking a licensee agreement there

        • Same at Innaloo WA.

  • Shows as and he checked price @ $240 at Telstra Leichhardt (2040). Same 505 model.

Just bought a pair from the local Telstra store. The price is showing up as $30.

  • Just got my headset delivered well done telstra :)

  • does anyone know how to pair two devices (says it can do it)

i paired with my ipad but can’t figure out how to pair it with my iphone as it doesnt come up in the device list anymore?

    • You just need to slide and hold the Bluetooth switch for a couple of seconds until the led light starts flashing and pair as normal. It will say "phone 2 connected" when you're done.

      • thanks, will it play sound from both devices simultaneously?

        • +1

Never tried it before so I just tested it on my phone and tablet with 2 separate YouTube videos and 1 video and a game in case it behaves differently.

It only plays on one at a time, the second device will still play video but won't output sound. You'll need to pause both and play the one you want to listen to in order to switch sources.

  • I went into Bundaberg Sugarland telstra store, (hinkler has none) and they scan as $120, so they called head office and they haven’t yet advised the stores to drop the price but will honour it as it’s an in store and online price yet to be broadly announced to the stores.
Sugarland had 8 left on the shelf.

    • I called around a couple of places Syd inner west (Ashfield, Marrickville, Leichhardt) and none had them scan in as this and all over $120. As one (nice sales guy) told me, the accessories prices are generally set by the store Franchise and not by Telstra. The exception would be if Telstra were to refund them $XX to make up for the $$ loss. He wasn't aware of anything hence no way they could possibly sell them at that price. I wonder if there is a difference between the stores i.e. some owned by Telstra (and agree to honor) and others are Franchises?

      • Some are not owned by telstra but all stores will be notified it’s a clearance item soon according to head office today

  • Far out, mine already arrived!

    That was bloody quick.

    • Got mine as well! very quick. especially around this period

    • Do you like it bro?

      • I like mine, works great with PC movies and semi decent. (Ok) for music from Spotify

  • +1

Just got JBHIFI to price match. Got the backbeat fit 505 which are selling for $149 in store price matched for $30 after showing them Telstra site.

    • but it says "sold out" on the website.

are they still able to do it if it's sold out?

      • They did for me, called them and asked if they price match. They put it aside for me and I just went in store and picked it up.

        • It didnt workout for me, they dont match soldout items.
