I've Had It with Auspost "Expected Delivery Times"

TLDR: This is just me whining on about how AusPost can never accurately state a delivery time/date.

If you clicked on this I take it you either share the same opinion, work for AusPost and want to flame me, or are just heaps bored.

Before everyone gets off track, I know delays are to be expected at Christmas time. This is about the lack of communication. How hard would it have been to send a message "your parcel is unlikely to be delivered today" rather than sending a message saying its onboard for delivery for 4 straight days.

Ok - so I order 2 parcels with delivery via AusPost (groan!) that are supposed to be delivered on the 21st and 27th respectively. That's ok with me, because one is a Christmas present and the other is a birthday present. This was the 19th.

First parcel - signature required.
On the 21st I get a message saying its coming for delivery today, before 5pm. Doesn't come, so I stay home all day waiting.
22nd (Saturday) I get a message saying its coming before 12 noon. Doesn't come, so I spend half the day waiting.
23rd (Sunday) I get a message saying it will be delivered before close of business today. Doesn't come.
Meanwhile - expected delivery date still shows the 21st.
24th (Christmas Eve!) I get a message saying its onboard for delivery. Comes at around 5:15pm. Leave at around 5:30pm for the shops to buy the rest of my presents.

Expected delivery date shows 21st and apparently tracking shows it as "delivered" to me on the 21st.

Second parcel - signature not required.
On the 23rd I get an email - sorry your order will be delayed - estimated delivery date 31st December*
Supposed to take 4 business days. As of the 26th it's still in Melbourne (bound for Sydney)
On the 27th (today) I get a message saying - your delivery is coming tomorrow. Wonder if it actually will?

Edit: Yeah came at 7:15am. Oh well, now I've got it at least?

See how I'm not complaining that this is a day late? I know this is to be expected. All I'm saying is the first parcel couldn't possibly have been on the truck 4 days without being delivered. Second parcel actually turned out alright not sure how it got here so quickly seeing as it was in Melbourne on the 26th and supposed to take 4 business days though lol, I'm not complaining!

It's frustrating because I had to go out and buy another present because this one was not going to come in time. Now I'm going to have this also coming (maybe) which is what I originally wanted to give but the present I have bought now is not refundable.

Has anyone else had experiences like this with AusPost?
I understand it's Christmas Time, busy and all that but really? This is our government postal service. I've ordered in advance for "Christmas cut off dates" before and not had a problem.

    • Oh yeah, that's happened to me as well.

Redirected from home to work address or nearby parcel locker, updates on the tracking and in the system, yet goes to the exact same place it was going originally.

Also while talking about collecting parcels via parcel collect & lockers, a couple of mine haven't gone through the system properly and have been waiting for collection at a post office, they can't find it anywhere and in 28 days or so it gets returned to sender.
