  • Looks interesting. I am used to the JB deals often being items that require moving prior to end of life.

Has some favorable reviews. Will the price come down further?

  • Back up to $1399

  • Selby Acoustics in Australia are still selling this for $839.40, and are also offering free delivery.

  • The previous model Onkyo TX-NR676 was selling for $587.40 this time last year (27/12/2017).

I wonder if there will be any similar reductions coming for the 686?

I am assuming a new model is released the same time each year?

    • I have a 656 and a 676. The 676 is still for sale at $699 at rio. There doesn’t appear to be much difference between the 676 and the 686. I bought the 676 from amazon.de for 400 Euros in October 2017, but it cost me 100 Euros to ship it back to Australia. It got damaged in the recent Sydney storms, and of course I have no warranty, even though I was living in Germany when I bought it. The recent JB price is good - there doesn’t appear to be much price variation in the Onkyo range. Selby has put their price up to $1098. Pass.

      • Are you going to get another 676?

I just have a feeling we will see pricing for the 686 around the $700 mark soon.

There must be a glut of Australian stock for JB to have been offering discounts on this particular model.

….. Now to find decent speakers that do not cost a fortune. I see Dali Zensor 1 5.1 speakers highly recommended to go with this receiver.

        • I don’t think the 686 will come down for a while. I watched the price of the 676 for a long time before I bought it. When the 676 price came down, everyone was discounting. This time JB discounted, and only Selby matched. Most Hi-Fi places aren’t even advertising the 686.
