Is The Typical OzBargainer Household Income 300k+

It seems to me the typical OzBargainer has a typical household income of 300k or more… (As suggested by some this is more than the typical reddit income of 200k). Do u also feel the same?

How did you mannage to achive such a feat? Do your peers respect your ability to earn so little?

  • +8

I earn that from my diversified portfolio of high yield investment cars (each worth at least $80k)

    pointless post

Who needs income when you have afterpay?

    • +5

Agree. I've got a brand new 70" TV for $10 per fortnight.

      • +7

Just stretch out the repayments longer. Your kids cannot be liable for you loans.

Gotta love that 30 year loan for the toaster.

Is The Typical OzBargainer Household Income 300k+

    Per month? Pretty close…

  • +13

I use both Ozbargain and Reddit, that must mean my household income is $500k!

    • And yet you still cant afford a better dinner.. lol love ya steak.

  • +1

Obviously not. But also definitely above average, the majority of Ozbargainers are definitely wealthy. At first glance it doesn't make sense, but then you realise without extra money/need/space/want to be buying things in the first place you can't take advantage of the bargains. It also explains how there are so many ignorant, out of touch ass-hats lol. Still, even with my very limited funds I've taken advantage of a few bargains over the last couple of years.

  • +6

sounds accurate, I'm a billionaire so I pull the averages up

  • +6

    Average is more like 300k…

    in Turkish Lira.

Is there a hidden agenda behind this question mate? Let it all out.

  • +1

I have 300k worth of Ozbargain impulse buy crap

  • +3

    In Monopoly money maybe.

Otherwise you've got to be dreaming OP.

    LOL. Click bait

Most of the posts are people that just want to brag about it by asking a question that's somewhat related. Probably for an ego stroke, when people start commenting on how rich they are.

    • How much you earn has no relation to how rich you are. If you earn $1m but spend it all, you have no money.

There's a big taboo around discussing salaries for some reason that companies take advantage of to offer lowest possible and you have little to compare it to as a candidate.

Case in point, someone above reckons 100-120k is average for Senior Engineer which is absolutely not, should be earning 150k+ easily.

Who cares what randoms on internet claim to earn, but it's good to have a general sweep to make your own informed decisions.

    • If I was well off and earning good money I'd keep it to myself.

  • +1

    I wish.

  • -1

Depends how many working heads in the household.
5 working heads could be $1500K
None (ie social security could be $25K

    • +4

How many people do you think live in a house?

      • +8

5 people in one house all earning 300k each. there would be a tonne of cocaine and partying in that house

        • -1

I have some first year dentistry graduate friends that share a house… checks out.

My partner and I bring in a cool 600k combined.
Mainly through real estate, welfare fraud and old family money

Dont forget the whirlpool where the average person is grad on 180k+…

  • I'm slummin' it….
    Only on $299,500 PA :(
Hoping to move some of my enelope investment capital in the next couple of days, then I shall hit the 300k+ mark for 2018 .
if you need >$500 in enelopes, message me

  • I went through all the comments. Also looked at the Qantas credit card and Melbourne city jaguar ad. Is that what you wanted OP?

    • The targeted ads at least might offer something you wanted.

  • What I earn and what I get paid are two very different things.
If I was paid for what I do then I would be broke.

  • AMGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE MERCEDES BENZ YEH BOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

  • I think they meant to post this on Whirlpool lol.

  • +1

sorry im out, just took a pay drop from 370k, to 280k.

  • Wife left, took the kids, lost the house, lost the job and still have to pay child support. Being broke, that 300k sounds quite good to get a lawyer to get them back. Where do I sign up?

  • 200k higher than the average whirlpool income, nice!

  • +1

Really? Where do I signup to be a typical ozbargainer?

  • +1

Whatever you make i make a dollar more

  • It would appear that is the case….

  • Wouldn't get out of bed for that🎅

  • Haha, you are funny :)

  • Most oz bargainers are on workers comp.

  • If it was above $200k I'd be staggered.

  • Don't think you'd be oz bargain with a household income of 300k

  • Oz bargain is Australian and reddit is international, but predominantly American, so that might explain some income differences.
Not sure where the figures are coming from but I have heard the average Aussie professional retires with about 300k of superannuation, so they will be earning far less than that whilst working, even if you double the figures for a dual-income household.

Is the OP implying that Ozbargain is mainly new migrants / students living in shared households of 10 or more?

  • It's actually a household average of 300,000mA in eneloop batteries.

  • +3

I'm well below that! My wife and I earn $145k pa between us. I work as a vet (please don't tell Craig Minns).

  • +2

    300k+ debt yes!

  • Nvm.

  • $300K+ a year? No, I’d seriously doubt the average OzBargainer (whom is seeking out cost saving ideas/bargains) is earning that much money.

The more philosophy I read, the more I seem to appreciate that money just isn’t everything, I mean I know how cliche that is, but folks on their death bed, I think more often than not, just wish they’d not worried about money as much as they do. It’s of course nice to strive to live comfortably, understandably, but an incessant ever perpetuating urge to gather more material possessions, and cash wealth is, in my estimation, leading to more and more unhappy people, who by often their own estimation are always just not well off enough.

It’s all relative of course, but that so many have so little (on a global scale) compared to so few with so much, I think puts into perspective that being ‘rich’ just isn’t necessarily the be all and end all to the human experience.

I realise this is an aside to the OP’s question, but I wonder if folks aren’t sitting back thinking they’re a failure cause they’re not rich, and the answer is of course no.

    • Granted, being rich isn't everything. But when you choose to live in a first world country like Australia and be overwhelmed by what the country has to offer, there are physical and psychological implications of being wealthy enough that it affects your happiness quotient. Comparing lives of first world citizens with starving people in Ethiopia, is like you said, incredibly relative and very arbitrary.

    • There are a lot of ways to be wealthy and not all of it involves money.

There will always be someone who will earn more than you or has more influence(power) than you.

My motto is find what makes you happy and do that.

We earn enough to be comfortable and then some. I am considering going part time, take a pay cut and enjoy life more.

    • +3

Money isn't necessarily about gathering more and more material. I want more money so that I can have more choice over what I do in the day. As I am, I have so much debt just from trying to own my accommodation, I have no choice but to go every day to grind in a job that kills my soul. I come home with no energy for things I care about, and I usually fall asleep on the couch before bed time. It's not about how much you earn in a year; it's about how much you could choose in that year. Thousand dollar furniture and brand name clothing add nothing to my life, but deciding what to do with my own time is a dream I can't afford.

    I feel REAL POOR :/

  • U wona WOWK out the median mean mode. That will tell u the Amount. Take sour outliers. And give su the right range.

  • definitely nothing close to 300k

  • What are you smoking?

  • I beg Tuesdays and Wednesdays in front of a minor suburban train station. This morning I made $350000 so I guess most Australians are making do with less than average.

  • who cares,

  • +1

haha, knock off a 0, that's why I'm here to find bargains.

  • lucky to break 50k amongst the 4 of us adults living together.

  • I reckon this would have been better served with a poll.

A better question, with a poll, would've been something like this.

What is your current salary? or What is your current household income?

    • ≤ 20k
    • 20-39k
    • 39-79k
    • 80-109k
    • 110-149k
    • 150-200k
    • 200-269k
    • 270-369k
    • 370-500
    • crazytalk money (> 500k)

Tally them up & voila - obviously there will be lots of lies in there so take the results with a grain of salt (much like our politics).

I also find it interesting the number of people who seem to be on the higher range here (just based on comments about lifestyle & posts). I wouldn't discount the number who are on higher salaries here due to being in medical & other related higher income sectors either.

  • Ooof that's a dream.

  • Is this per month?
