For day to day photography, these 'bridge cameras' suck. The average smartphone has a better sensor than this. Only get this if you wan't to shoot really distant objects like the moon or wildlife and don't want to fork out thousands for telephoto lenses + DSLR.

You good sir are correct, top of the line phones have picture quality that 99.94% of the population will be more than satisfied with

Digital cameras are dying, all of them

Too bulky, heavy messy to bother with a DSLR

What do you define as a better sensor ? It's more than just megapixels, it's also things like sensor size and image noise which are proportional, and why people pay extra for full frame DSLR vs DX frame, although they also own a phone.

it's not just the sensor, it's also the size of the lens and the aperture and how much light it can capture, the bigger the lens the more light it catches. Very important in low light conditions to stop the grays where there should still be colour "noise" from the sensor.

I had a moto with 21 megapixel sensor …. nowhere near the same picture quality as even a 12 megapixel DSLR for many reasons.

Phones do what most of the population needs, quick pictures that are better than a 1000 words, but there are also occasions where you know you will be taking pictures and others will want them eg kids parties and candlelight situations, and that is when the DSLR gets you results a phone can't.

      • Yeah, I agree…phones are getting pretty impressive, but I still haven’t seen a phone that can go toe to toe with my DSLR (and not a particularly high-end DSLR at that). I have some nice glass to use with it though.

That said, I take more shots on my phone than I do with my DSLR, simply because I’ve usually got that on me. The pics I want to have enlarged and printed though are usually from my DSLR.

I went away from the DSLR for a while, but have come back to it. Looking for an in-betweener now too…so will check this out anyways.

    • Ehh 100% disagree. Unless you call the average smartphone something like pixel 3 or whatever the current best smartphone camera is. I have a camera thats basically exactly like this and an actual average phone (one of the better but not best xiaomi phones).
The actual camera definitely takes better quality photos in all conditions and scenarios.
Admittedly the downside being some difficulty trying to get the focus to happen in the right spot on landscape photos with lots of sun, which can make getting the right picture take a lot longer than on a phone (quickly tap on different spots on screen to find best place to focus).
If they made a touchscreen version of these cameras that could focus where you touch they would be absolutely perfect (im sure they probably do i haven't looked though).

Overall like the other guy said a decent phone camera seems to do photos good enough for most people. But these are a great step up if you want something better, i like them much better than regular point and shoots as these are just as easy, but take way better photos, only downside being size but unless you are carrying it in your pocket that doesn't seem like a big deal.
