Rain Check on Items Not in Stock

I recently purchased something online. After almost a week I was told they didn’t have them in stock. And my money will be returned.

Does anyone know if companies should honour the purchase at a later stage when stock returns.

Thank you

  • You need to ask for it. They won't just give you a raincheck.

Alot of things to also consider. What was the item? Was it on sale? What store? Did the item say "no raincheck if on sold out"?

Also, have a look at this previous thread. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/266158

always the easiest to do is… ask them!

Sometimes they may not even know if/when new stock will become available. If they have no stock, they can't magically pull a pair out of their butt.

  • I don't think they're obligated to do so.

  • Since this is posted in fashion, it is quite possible the item will never be restocked. Most fast fashion is one offs.
Even for other items, retailers often run price promotions when they get a discount for placing a large order or other “special”, so expecting them to offer the same discount in future is a bit hard.

Coles and Woolies have such strong pricing power they absorb the tiny amount of rain checks as a marketing expense, not, some obligation under the ACCC.

in your case, the week delay might have been due to the seller trying to find a supply to fulfil your order, and only refunding, when they were unable.

If they are not in stock then how can they be rained on. You do not need to check.

What sort of store are you shopping at where stock is stored outside?
