Who Covers The 10-15% off Sales for Apple/Microsoft Products?

Products like the Surface Pro and I would say famously Apple products tend to rarely (every few months) go on sale, though when they do it's almost always a flat 10% off and all the stores usually have the same price anyway so it doesn't matter much who you end up purchasing from.

So I was wondering when these sales happen on these products who is covering that discounted amount is it the store or manufacturer?

I had been eyeing off a Surface Pro from Harvey Norman for $1088 and it has now gone to $1348, I plan to go in there and ask them what's the best price they can do and wondering if/why they would not go as close as possible to the previous sale price, unless the manufacturer or someone higher up the store chain is covering the sales price that the store may lose during these discounts?

Hope my question makes sense.

  • Sorry can’t answer your question, but do you have an Amex card?

    • I don't have an Amex =/

      • Just thought I would highlight in case you missed it. :)

Personally I would just ask them if they will match, no harm in trying they can only say “no”. Also might be worth ringing a couple of stores to get quotes.

  • ive never seen 15% off Apple anywhere, it's always 10%

    • I get 25% off from Apple employee discount (a friend in China). Twice a year only, though.

Typical rate for a non-senior management Apple engineer.

        • All done. :)

          • @conservative: thought it was you, not friend in china.

didn't realise Apple had much in china.

            i mean gina.

            • @[Deactivated]: They have manufacturing and test engineers who work in various plants.

              • @conservative: well 10% off normal
                15% off ebay gift cards
                10% TRS

is as good as i can do without working for the slave drivers.

                • @[Deactivated]: TRS is technically 9.0909% off
eBay gift cards at 15% off aren't that frequent, 10% is once in a while but needs to be via ebay foreign sites, paypal issues always arise

  • Aussie Dollar going down, will be enough for HN to raise prices

  • officeworks permanently have their Apple stuff discounted now, so they'll never be caught out on a pricebeat

    • That's true, all their apple products are always lower than apple store (and other stores). Managed to do a price beat at OW last week on apple products - failed 3 times and then successful on the 4th attempt

  • -2

I get approx 25% from hardly normal Amex proms with a price match of course
    Less 10% TRS
Then I salary sacrifice it through work
Then I on sell it on gumtree when new models come out

    Rinse and repeat

End result - free money / profit
