Any Sim. Incoming SMS is free when roaming.

    • yes agree free but not ALL are ABLE to.
for example, kogan previously are NOT enable to work overseas. basically outside australia, the sim is DEAD.
but now they can, since couple months ago, people on whirlpool and ozb said so. i havent tried.

      • Only in selected countries, of which there are few.

  • Telstra prepaid, no balance required.

    Free Telstra sim here:
    https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/2-p…

  • SMS forwarding app. Leave your sim card in an old phone here that forwards to your phone. Then you can use a local sim when you get there.

    • will that work if we dont know the local sim number yet? will we need to setup/enter the destination number on the original australia phone?

      • It forwards to the app. No sim card even required.

        • wow sound cool. ill check later. any recommendation of the such app?

  • Amaysim prepaid, no balance required. Activate roaming before you leave.

  • I don't think you get charged foreign fees these days when receiving SMSs.

Also, most banking apps don't need SMS verification.

i think you made a typo?

You can call your bank and update your ovrseas mobile number as a primary mode of communication temporarily. Then get it changed once you travel back. I do that all the time.

    • cant do if we dont know the local overseas number as yet….

  • It's free…

  • cost to receive is free but not ALL are ABLE to.

  • I have a vodafone SIM currently. Can it get SMS for free overseas with no additional charge? Most of the SIM cards I used overseas were not able to get SMS overseas. My last SIM was kogan.

    • Kogan has only recently introduced international roaming (although the countries it is supported in is very few). If you are with Vodafone (and not another reseller), you should be fine. Where are you travelling?
