Bought Brand New Sony KD65X9000F Got Delivered a Used Refurbished One

If somebody can advise me on this issue.
I just bought a brand new 65x9000F from goodguys yesterday. When I opened the box the remote already had batteries inside which was strange. Also the TV never prompter for initial setup. Then I found somedody has already loggein into netflix app and has a netflix login with monthly subscription on the TV . When I click on the App the there someperson profile and montly account. Also the you tube also shows videos previosuly watched by those persons.
Have I been sent a refurbished or a Demo TV? How do I prove to goodguys that this is what has happened.
What should i do? the box was normally taped and packed?

Hey, at least you got free netflix.

    Looks like a return.

GoodGuys should be your first port of call.

  • Oh really your caught us re=packaging the item as new. Dam.

Tell them the issue and get them to sort it out. If your indended item as meant to be new then it should be. Was it brought online or in store. If online did you read the description properly. Ebay listings are full of fine print.

  • Just take it back.

Call me CRAZY…but if I was in your shoes, with your TV and had the same experience, I would call the GoodGuys as my first action - not Australia's premier bargain website's forums.

    What should i do?

Turn on the tv and start watching netflix :)

  • Probably someone bought it, then returned, rather than a refurb.

I'm not sure how the laws and fair trading work on this exactly, so I would be contacting fair trading in your state, not to make a complaint just yet, but to seek advice on consumer law for such circumstances.
I have noticed some items in Aldi look like returns, poorly repackaged and taped up etc.
In the distant past, I remember as a kid going to kmart bargain shelf of all returned toys. IMO it isn't right to resell a return without informing buyer that it's a returned/used product. Maybe just contact the store, if they are bad about it, mention your intention to follow up with fair trading, if necessary. If first staff member you speak with doesn't resolve matter, ask to speak with manager.
You might consider keeping it, but with an additional discount. Depends on the discount whether it is worth keeping or not. Ie. If I paid $3,000 for a TV, then they offered me $100-$200 for it being a return, I would rather the brand new (unreturned, untouched) product personally.

  • Factory reset it and move on with life. First World problem. Yes I do understand it can be annoying to think it is not brand new but if there is no fault with it then there really isn't an issue.

Or don't factory reset and get free Netflix 😂😂
