Thanks OP, been meaning to get one of these for years, just never gotten around to it.

    good for carpet?

    • +2

My old one has gone yellow and is starting to crack.
I'm looking for a carpet chair mat too.

      • how long have you had it?

        • Jeez. I dunno? Many years.
          It has lasted incredibly well.

    • No, it will crack. Mats designed for carpet have little nubs to support their weight.

      • They are there to stop the mat sliding.

        • +1

          They all crack.

I've owned two. The first was cheaper than the second and had sharp spikes. DO NOT BUY THESE THEY DAMAGE YOUR CARPET. i.e. The spikes damage the jute backing under the carpet. So when you remove the mat, the grid pattern of the spikes is there forever - even after a professional super-heated steam clean, and after walking over the marks constantly on my way into the kitchen for 18 months after the clean.

Another type has more rounded spikes. I'm using a more expensive one of those atm but haven't checked if it damages the carpet in the same way.

Conclusion: First, don't buy cheap ones. They all crack, but the cheap ones crack much sooner. Second, I'd rather have one with blunt, or no spikes at all - even if I had to knock them off with a angle grinder. Or at least remove all but a couple of rows along the back or an edge where no weight is placed on them. Who cares if the mat moves a bit. That's better than ruining your carpet, or if you rent, having the landlord fighting to take your bond to replace it.

    • Ergolux Chair Mat for Hard Floors

      Probably not.

They are likey made from polycarbonate which isn't as good on carpet, there's an expansion here https://www.americanchairmats.com/polycarbonate-chair-mats-v…

You would be better with a PET or PVC mat (PET is more environmentally friendly if that matters to you)

This IKEA one is PET, larger and doesn't have the cutouts at the end.
      https://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/90176245/

If you want a narrower one there's this PVC Officeworks one
      https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/floortex-h…

    • But this is 0.95¢ cheaper!

Don't buy these. A lot of the eBay ones come rolled up. I bought 2. They were so hard to unroll. Had to use the hair dryer to soften the PVC to unroll and try and flatten. Even rolled out, they had the roll bumps on it the whole time. Lasted 1.5 yrs before cracking.

      • Fill some hot water in the bath tub, Leave the roll in for some time. Can be easily rolled back afterwards and can get perfectly flat.

        • For a couple more $ can probably buy a better quality one that is already flatand not waste so much hot water

    half price, nice
Some comments from the version for Carpeted floor
One user thought their Kogan mat was too thin compared to IKEA or Officework alternatives
Think i'm gonna head to Ikea 2nite and check out some kolons

    • +3

I was at IKEA tonight and I had a strange feeling someone was watching my ass.

kogan sell on ebay $21.95, so kogan website $59 is just a number to make people think, this is half price

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ergolux-Chair-Mat-for-Hard-Floor…

    • Even cheaper with 10-15% eBay GC!

  • Has anyone tried the castor chair cups from Bunnings. Might be better if you don't need to roll around

    • +1

      noo don't
i tried it, returned it, absolutely frikin useless
I moved a little bit and the wheel rolled out of the castor cups

ps: thank you Bunnings for letting me returned it, owe you one ❤

IKEA has a better everyday price for anyone looking after the deal ends.

It's made from PET which is more environmentally friendly than PVC ones.

It's also larger and doesn't have the cutouts at the end
    https://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/90176245/ (Link Edited)

For the reasons above I'd buy the IKEA one over the Kogan one even if it costs more.

      Link doesnt work.

The Kolon one I can recommend after buying a Kogan one last year. It was a big pain to unroll (I should have tried hair dryer/hot water). But anyway, the Kolon one comes flat (not sure if you get it delivered), which I would happily pay an extra $10 for.

  • Can you get this stuff in big sizes? I feel like I want one for the entire desk area itself, not just the chair… possible?

    • Probably not

Custom made ….cost is high though

      • Plastic sheets are common, if anything these mats are 'custom made'

    • Find a plastic distributor you'll be able to get one.

Polycarbonate comes in large sheets and is the same material that some floor mats are made from.

  • dam missed out, ebay ones look bad compared to this :(
