NBN Box: Is yours hot?`

Hi,

I just got NBN via HFC connected and the Arris CM8200B NTC seems to run hot to touch at the top of the unit.

Should it be running this hot?

And is there anything I should be concerned about?

Should it be running this hot?

Depends what you're downloading that makes it hot ;)…

Yes it's quite warm and could be described as hot.

Make sure it's got some airflow around it.

  • Mine's spicy!

  • Thanks,

Its got nothing around it, and is hot on the top 1/3 of the unit.

Vents at the top being the hottest.

None of my previous modems got this warm/hot.

  • Is yours hot?

Possibly as I didn't pay for it.

Edit: just realised I paid for it via taxes (iTunes cards)

  • Modems getting warm is normal.

My NBN box constantly runs hot as well, I think that's just how they are.

What are the specs on the power adaptor? A lot of modern modems use 2 amp power supplies, which is quite a lot and enough to generate heat just normally. They use more power than an original playstation.

Telstra HFC modem gets hot as (profanity).

    • As a recent Telstra sign up to NBN, can vouch for this

Oh my god Karen you can’t just ask people if their boxes are hot.

  • Yes it's hot, especially in this weather. Mine could even be described as burning sometimes, depends on the day and hour and what I do. But it should be fine.
