  • Check out furama and jayakarta hotels for a nice play to stay a bit out of kuta.

Just went there and I am asking myself that, it's not cheap anymore and it's so hard to get around.

          • @[Deactivated]: $2 beer is still cheap and if you surf it's a good cheap location with lots of reef breaks in close proximity.

          • @[Deactivated]: I found that to be the case. Been 20 years apart, this time not by choice - more expensive, traffic terrible but on the plus side didn't seem to get hassled to buy things as much. A lot more Chinese there - perhaps they want to cater more to that market and it's pushing the price up - would seem to be better for the island than the bogan element.

Mullet city, everyone in thongs , footy shorts, and bin tang singlets, punching darts.

      • where do you stay? bali is not kuta.

        • i don't stay there, except next to the airport

thanks for the geography lesson though, all these years of flying there i thought they were the same

  • For flights I would be watching for Jetstar 2 for 1 sales.

Are there places to stay in Bali that aren't bogan central?

nusa dua is much nicer and perfect for families with kids but hotels are pricier.

About 99% of the island is free from bogans. The south is the worst. Canggu & Seminyak area a decade or so ago used to be a little upmarket, but they're just the same as Kuta these days. Ubud has its share of bogans and tour groups, but you don't have to stay in the centre. Just stay on the outskirts and walk into town if you want a cafe or something.

Aside from those popular places, there are loads of more remote areas which are fantastic and you'll see hardly another Aussie… just a few euros.

    • Check this out - Bali is for bogans

Wtf have bogans got to do with Balinese christians eating dogs in your link :/

I wouldn't be eating a meat pie there after reading that though. Unless its like factory packed and sealed like the ones in 7/11

  • Do not promise anyone you will buy tomorrow.

All these complainers that bali is a bogan blah blah. Why are you staying in the places that are attracting these types? jesus, go elsewhere. Bali is not Kuta.

Start in Seminyak and go up to Canngu. Head south to Jimbaran and Uluwatu. Go island hop on Nusa Lembongan and Cenigan.

Getting around is easy, buy a local sim or use the wifi to hail a GoJek scooter or car. Grab and Taxis are more expensive more often than not in peak times.

browse tripadvisor for real guest photos and reviews
use cheaptickets to find the hotel youre happy with (be sure to use the 15-16% coupon they always have circulating)
ive used airbnb in areas like ubud and they SH*T on a good number of hotels. The homestays (like a mini townhouse complex where the host family live in the same complex as you) as a rough guide a comfortable place set me back $8/night (for example pineapple house in ubud)

momond/google fights/ ita matrix to gauge out and cross reference flights

Check ozb travel guides, its all in there.

    • thank you

I stayed in Candidasa when I went to Bali in 2012, it's far away from the airport but I found it to have less tourists and less people in general. The locals there were so friendly and so many people would either say hello or stop and have a chat, especially when they saw we had kids.

We hired a taxi driver for a few days to take us out places, it cost approx $35 per day. We went to Kuta for one day and didn't like it at all but the other places we went to were very nice.
