Car Insurance

My parents never educated me on this issue and i think its good to get some transparency out there, so question?

  1. whats the price of both the access fee and the insurance premium for a red P driver?
  2. whats the price of both the access fee and the insurance premium for a green P driver?
  3. whats the price of both the access fee and the insurance premium for a full license driver?

You probably want to do some reading yourself.

    1. It's called an excess
    2. The premium depends on a large number of factors, which you'll find out once you do number 3 below
    3. Go to an insurer's website and get 3 quotes, one for each of your variable licences……

It's one of those things that varies between different insurance companies.

Factors that affect the premium includes things like:

    • How long you've been driving
    • If you've made any at fault claims
    • No claim discounts
    • The make and model of the car you're insuring
    • The amount you're insuring your car
    • The suburb you're in
    • Whether you've opted for a higher excess to decrease the premium
    • Whether you take out Third Party Property Damage or the full Comprehensive insurance

It really pays to shop around. Most if not all of the insurance websites can give you free quotes.

Another thing to know, is when your policy is about to expire, some insurance companies will bank on customers that don't bother to shop around who will blindly renew their policies for another year without noticing a big increase on the premium amount.

Are these randomly generated post topics. I find it difficult to comprehend that someone cant find these online with the respective insurance companies or just by ringing up. Sure I have a phone phobia when I want to. Its a very difficult question to answer with out knowing all the facts.

      I blame the parents

Kids are to spoon fed. Having said that I worked it out. As I said there's the internet which should make it easier or phone to find out.

At least hes considering insurance. If he was smart he would just try to be on his parents insurance policy as another driver. He might not have to pay it himself then. However the caveat there is that they don't normally consider your driving record when you get your own insurance later. Sometimes best to fork out high premiums now yourself to build up the no claim bonus ratings. IMO

Oh man.. where are we going to begin with this one

  • You should really research these kind of life topics yourself so you get a proper understanding. Goto an insurance companies website and do some mock quotes. The prices vary based on many factors.

Also, what is an access fee?

Googling is so hard these days…

  • Look up a few car insurance sites online and get some prices.

"access fee", noooo.. it is called an excess.
An excess is the amount you have to pay if you make a claim.
Say the repairs cost $5000 and when you took out your policy you opted for a $1000 excess then you will have to pay $1000 of that $5000 repair cost and your insurer pays the other $4000.
You can opt for a lower excess but the cost of your insurance premium will increase.

Do not lie when you are applying for insurance because the first thing they do when you make a claim is look for a reason not to pay it. Also if you have an accident whilst unlicenced, driving whilst drunk or drugged, driving an unroadworthy or unregistered vehicle and many other things, that will void your insurance coverage and leave you to pay for everything.
Insurance is one of those things in life that are a PITA… but the one time you drive without it you wish you hadn't.
Don't drive a car without insurance, as a minimum get Third Party Property Damage insurance (TPP).

    • No, we're missing the much bigger issue that someone accepted OP into a university when he can't Google.
