MobileCiti Refusing to Provide Another Replacement for Pixel 2 XL (Because I Got Original Replacement from Google)

I bought a Pixel 2 xl last month, it had display issues so I got a replacement from Google which took about 3 weeks.(Luckily it was during late Dec/early Jan)

Now the replacement device has also developed issues,eg often won't connect to my PC and there is speaker rattling. I can't afford to send it back to Google as it would take roughly 3 weeks (from the support guy) so they advised me to get a replacement from the retailer (Mobileciti) as it would take much less time.

But MobileCiti says they can't replace my device because I already got an replacement from Google thus the IMEI is different.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think MobileCiti have ACL responsibility on the second phone.
    - They cannot verify if the phone is a true replacement from Google.
    - They do not know if the 'receipt containing both original and replacement IMEI' is legit.

Otherwise it would be too easy to scam retailers. Anyone could just made up some good looking documents saying the manufacturer replaced the original product and now I want to deal with the retailer again with my 'dodgy replacement'.
However I think MobileCiti will eventually help OP out just showing their courtesy.

If it worked like this, I would be signing up for contracts everywhere and buying broken phones to trade in.

The device you have is no longer the device mobileciti supplied, you should have just gone to them in the first place or just continue using google.

Dumb question, but do you know for sure that Mobileciti can/will do it in less time? Will they swap it over with a new one they have in stock or send it back to Google for you?

Are you still within the 30 days window?

    • Not a dumb question at all.
OP is just expecting them to 'express deliver' a brand new phone out of their own stock because… well, they are a bunch of nice guys.

Google used to put a pending charge on your credit/debit card for the cost of the device, then send out a replacement together with a return shipping bag for the defective device.

Then, when you returned the defective device, they would cancel the pending charge.

That way, you were never without a phone, just temporarily out of pocket.

Is that not the case here days? Last time I dealt with Google was for a 2 year old Nexus 5. So that would’ve been 2015.

  • op makes me sad for the fate of humanity.

  • Once my phone was booked, it took me a week from the date it was shipped to getting a brand new replacement Pixel 2 XL (happened last week).
    Just do it.

You're not going to have any luck with Mobiciti because they don't have any responsibility.

    • How did you get a brand new one though? I got a refurb about a week ago. Also what's your phone's manufacture date? Do you have screen grain/ blue shift/speaker rattling on the replacement?

      • It was a replacement for a replacement (that first replacement was a refurb, which had inside parts which moved around, and most likely a disconnected antenna on the inside).

Unlike the refurb which came in a small box with only the phone, the new phone came in the full kit with a new charger, cable, dongle etc. New phone had manufacturing date was March 2018, refurb was November 2017 (as was my original phone).

No idea re those issues (speaker certainly was the reason for the first replacement).

I've already sold the new phone.

    (edit: removed name calling)

Did you not go to Google in the first place? Then sort it out with them.
