Cheers, just booked Adelaide -> Melbourne return flights for $90!

    • is Melbourne better than Radelaide tho…?

      • yeah, much bigger, newer and more events. Australian Open and more concerts for starters.

Thanks. just booked brisbane to launceston for $79 instead of the usual $150. I'm happy.

Given that Government taxes are now $163.9 for a return AU->NZ flight, the $208 isn't bad at all. It also means that Jetstar's only pocketing $22.05 per flight to pay for fuel, staff, the plane etc.

    • no wonder airlines struggle to make profit.

    • Are you sure about the taxes amount?

      • +1

Yep (was 20 cents off) The following are applied to any AU-NZ return booking:

Australia Passenger Services Charge Departure International (WY)- A$42.00
Australia Safety And Security Charge Departure (WG)- A$4.00
Australia Passenger Movement Charge PMC (AU)- A$60.00
New Zealand Border Clearance Levy International Arrival (F1) - A$17.70
New Zealand Passenger Service Charge International Arrivals (KK) - A$28.80
New Zealand Passenger Security Charge International (IA) - A$11.20

        Total - $163.7

for Comparison (for one international arrival and departure from the same country in AUD):

        Australian Taxes - A$106
        NZ - A$57.70
        USA - A$89.40
Canada - A$49.3 ($21 of this is a Vancouver Airport improvement fee)
        UK Taxes - A$165.70
Hong Kong - A$58.80 (also includes 3rd runway fee)
Singapore - A$51.40 (also includes airport improvement fee)
        Indonesia - A$22.20

        • Wow, that's crazy

          • @bmerigan: You think that’s bad that’s nothing compared to uk and Canada domestic flights.

Every A380 that departs from Heathrow pays the UK Government $95,000!

  • How often does Jetstar have this kind of sale? I'm looking at Melbourne to Gold Coast in Aug but it's not as cheap as Feb.

    • +1

they have sales every friday but they are not normaly this big, maybe becouse the fuel prices are so low they made a ton of extra cash.

      • Good to know. Thanks

  • Something a bit odd. I was testing a booking, added car hire and the total was 933. On the next page the total went down to 795. I went back to the previous page and I found the car hire cost had dropped… Not sure what's going on with the site.

I avoid now. Last two Avalon-Sydney flights they cancelled and had a 4hr wait till the next one. Not much to do in the middle of nowhere.

Serendip Sanctuary is 10-15min away nearly as good as healsville sanctuary and its free

        https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Attraction_Review-g3331154-d4…

well worth hiring a car for $60 bucks going there for an hour or 2 and coming back

        • Sadly we were held prisoner with Jetstar. It was the old 1 Hour engineering fix, turns into 2 hours, then 3 hours..then cancel the flight! We were told if we leave and miss the flight then its our bad luck should they fix the problem sooner than estimated.

So Avalon is on my no fly list with newly added Tiger Air after getting screwed over multiple times also after giving them a second shot after 10 years!

          • @[Deactivated]: must be a reason for it, same thing happened to me on airasia.

@[Deactivated]: Better to be safe than sorry, wonder if the planes are being maintained properly.

Poor maintenance is the cause of a good percentage of crashes, you really don't want to be in the air with a plane that's malfunctioning.

@Cleremy: budget airlines are like budget car tyres to me: some things you just shouldnt do, and pay the extra to get piece of mind.

    Friday 20th

As more and more people working on Sunday, every Sunday is now practically Friday for some people. It makes sense.

  • If you book a flight it appears you also get a $25 Hotel Voucher email with no min nights which was helpful.

    • comes in handy, last two flights i booked with jetstar i got them. paid for a few nights in thailand.
