  • Still waiting for the proper e-mail aka the one addressed to my name and not my dad’s. It said he was the number one points collector at 4119 points including 2719 bonus points.

I’m 100% sure that’s incorrect; I topped up my Opal card so many times at Coles in order to get the bonus points at minimum 2000 points each time! (The e-mail said we redeemed 88K points)

    • So for last year, they only sent it to the primary cardholder boo.

Does anyone know whether you can change the primary cardholder?

  • In 2018, you collected

100k plus. Coles Rewards MasterCard with almost all purchases made on that resulting in 2 points per $1 for nearly everything. Made large purchases as well as insurance, fuel and other essentials over a year a decent points payout 😊

Then transferring most during bonus Velocity time 🤑

    • I'm thinking of going down this route this year. Is that the same card that gives you free delivery?

      • +1

Yes that's right. Spend $100 or more at Coles Online with your Coles MasterCard and receive free shipping. I personally don't use it as I love grocery shopping!

        • I enjoy shopping too as I love finding stuff on clearance but this year both of us will be working full time and don't want to waste as much time on shopping so may go down the delivery route

          • @tassieeagle: Meanwhile I find it relaxing after a long day of work. I guess I'm just weird 🤣

            • @Clear: Try doing it with three young kids every week

              • +5

@tassieeagle: I'll add that to the growing list of "reasons not to have kids"

    • At 2k points for $10 off you've saved $500… But how much more did you spend on coles vs aldi/costco etc and how much could you have saved if you'd just got a Velocity or Qantas points card with a signup bonus?

  • +1

61k on one card and probably the same on the other. Of that 61k, 2k were normal and 59k were bonus. Pretty happy with that

What are you buying to get the bonus points!? Thats crazy!

    • Just take advantage of any useful offers
      Last year i earned
      60,877 flybuy points
58,617 of those were BONUS POINTS!

      • Are you able to provide some example useful offers for us plebs?

        • Hey i am a pleb but maybe it is because i use a woolies cc or gift cards and i dont swipe flybuys card for small shops

  • How do you guys earn that much bonus points?

    • +1

Take advantage of every single one they give you. I sometimes got two spend $80, get 2000 points twice a week for weeks on end

  • +3

    A big fat zero.

I shop almost exclusively at aldi and don't fall for this black magic marketing.

    Neg away people.

    • +1

I'd do the same but no ALDI in Tassie. No neg from me

      • +1

Next time you fly up to Melbourne stick the Krispy Kreme in your carry and Aldi chocolate in your luggage 😉

    • I'm willing to give Aldi products a go but they can be hit and miss. A few items that I didn't enjoy at Aldi compared to their Coles counterparts were frozen blueberries, paper towels and maple syrup.

      • Aldi maple syrup is great (the real stuff, not the maple flavoured sugar syrup)
And the base paper towels are terrible but the better orange labelled ones seem to do the job here.

        • Yeah I tried the real maple syrup. Compared it side by side with Queens brand from Coles and it had relatively little flavour. The colour was much lighter as well which was telling.

  • 6307 points here… 3500 from eBay, 2500 from my coles credit card (used only for price protection), 67 from coles itself.

I don't see why people bother gathering thousands of points… Coles costs more than Aldi and your local fruit shop. I spent my money on QFF cards and gathered 300k qantas points instead.

  • I've done 200k bonus points easily through CC offers

    • Awesome.

Are you a family shopper or does that include buying stuff for a business?

      • Family only

        • Wow, $46,000 a year of after tax dollars through Coles/Target etc. You must have a massive family!

          • @serpserpserp: Nope. Just groceries and fuel. But it’s actually only 1/3 of that as it’s all spent on the Coles MC earning an extra 2 FBs per $

  • For those asking how do people get so many points / you are spending extra this is my trick. I have two cards, one in my wife's name and one in mine. I take advantage of the offers as they come up and use the card with the best point: dollar offer. E.g if card A is 10000 points for $50 and card B is the same for $80 spend then it's a no brainer. I never shop just to make the bonus limit - if a card has an offer that is spend $100 and I know I only need to send $70 at Coles that week (by shopping the specials at Woolworths and Coles), then I just spend the $70. And ALDI or Costco are probably fantastic and cheaper but here in Tasmania we only have the Colesworth and so must make the most of the limited bargain opportunities.

    • Is 10000 points for $50 spend actually a thing? I've never seen that posted despite people posting worse targeted offers.

      • +1

I usually get spend $50 a week for 4 weeks for 10,000 points. I make sure I spend almost exactly $50, and when they send offers that require a higher spend I ignore, and then a week or two later I get another $50 spend offer

  • +1

People earning 10k+ points how much did you spend?? Are you sure you're saving money?

    • +1

It's the bonus points that give the incredible leverage. You don't have to spend anywhere near as much as you think.

      Only around $5k or less.

      • +1

How many points did you earn with that?

      • +1

Sorry, I misread your comment. I thought you wrote 100k+ points. My reply was to that.

        • +2

Sorry sorry sorry, i edited it. In that case I'm really impressed you earn that many points!!

    • +2

      Nearly 300 k in flybuys
Probaly about 200 k in woolies points

Averaging 25% off groceries ( mostly specials and half price)
Less cost of running a chest freezer

  • +2

Was in top 3% of Australia

  • Main card:

    137,519 points

    14,312 Standard points
    123,207 Bonus points

    Backup card:

Can't be bothered logging in but it is only just over 10k as I only started it in December.

I have a family but my wife barely swipes the flybuys, no additional boosters like coles mastercard or insurance though (I should get on that but you know they are usually crappy value). I also missed a couple of bonuses by user error which sucks, that would have put me at about 150k on main card. Live and learn.

    • 123,207 Bonus points

You are my hero. I take my hat off to you.

      • +1

Bit higher than last year on the bonus points, I think Flybuys went a bit haywire in Sep-Nov and were just throwing massive points at me for a weekly spend that was only $10-20 higher than I usually shop at. Plus they did big points week while overlapping on the 10k for 4 weeks regular promotions. I buy a lot of non-perishables so it is easy to flex that shop for 1 week and not buy stuff I don't need/won't use.

To be honest, I'll probably spend more at Coles next year but I doubt I'll come anywhere near as close to the bonus points of this year. I am hoping that running two separate cards now will help keep the points up.

    1,471 STANDARD POINTS
    28,645 BONUS POINTS

  • This is one of my favourite things ever. I get weirdly competitive even though I don’t actively seek to maximise my flybuys points throughout the year. You could say my life is pretty dull. Household of 1.5:
    60,919 STANDARD POINTS
    30,680 BONUS POINTS
And my top purchases were bananas, strawberries, nectarines and cucumbers. Hm…!

    • +1

1.5? Does that mean you are a bit on the heavy side? Or do you have an animal?

      A midget?

      • My partner lived with me for about half the year, however you make a very good point in that I probably eat enough to round the headcount up to 2 anyway!

    • Is your bonus points right? Is that meant to be 300k?

  • Not much last year but years prior to that I was in top 5% for Vic. Did all the bonus points (except for liquorland).

Last year first 3 months I did well but from April I decided to shop mostly at Aldi & Costco and have saved good $$$ and will keep shopping this way

    • I wish I lived near to a Aldi/Costco combo.

Just the extra drive time, time spent in store (both of these would add up to an additional hour per visit for me) and fuel cost, I just feel like saving maybe 10-15% per shop just isn't worth all that time loss.

But great if visiting those places is part of the normal routine.

  • +1

Was in the top 1%. Not sure it's a badge I'm proud to wear. 350k on one card and 42k on another. Largely down to using coles mastercard for all purchases.

    • i had top 2% and top 10%. only use coles for bonus shops lol

    Bonus 141400

    Second card
    Standard 1246
    Bonus 28695

Now if I combine and remove the non other Coles stores

$2348 at Coles - does include the purchase of giftcards
Bonus 167162 if converting to say Coles giftcards the points have a value of $835.81
Return on my Coles shopping $835.81/$2348 = 34.5%
Bit disappointed 😔 I thought I’d do better this year. Coles offer dried up and gave nothing for December

Spend a lot more at Woolworths at around the 20% mark
Only shop the centre isle at Aldi cause it’s actually cheaper to shop the big two.
