SanDisk 32GB Ultra USB 3.1 Type-C Drive - $6.98 + Shipping or Pickup @Mwave

320

I came across this when looking for some 32GB flash drives which I could buy in bulk.
Unfortunately, these are not sufficient for me as they lack a Type-A connector (personally I think the folks at SanDisk jumped the gun on a Type-C only flash drive).
They may work for others, though.

Shipping is $11 to my address so this deal is only going to be worth it if you are buying bulk or can pick-up.

NOTE: This drive is Type-C ONLY.

Just a heads-up before you jump on this.. when trying to copy data to a conventional pc, u'll need something that interfaces usb-c to usb-a.

(personally I think the folks at SanDisk jumped the gun on a Type-C only flash drive)

Why? They still offer type A and combination drives and you have many phones with type C, many notebooks and some desktops.

It's easy for consumers to say 'this doesn't suit me, I'll just look at something else'.
However, from a business point of view, I think it was a bit premature. Creating a new product costs money (even if it would have been a relatively simple re-tooling of an existing design), manufacturing the product costs money, shipping, etc, etc.

All that for a drive which very few people will be looking for, people who would be sufficed with a Type-A & Type-C combo drive that already exists and is on shelves.

Furthermore, whilst all of your devices may have Type-C ports, what happens when you rock up to your grandparent's place, holiday snaps on your Type-C only flash drive, and can't find a Type-C port on their ten year old PC?

      • I'm probably not doing a good job of promoting the product I've posted a deal for.
Just saying, this isn't going to be suitable for everyone.

Someone like myself who has Type-C on all of my personal devices, already has a dozen or so 3.0 flash drives but needs another for whatever reason, sure, good deal.

If this is to be your only high-speed/capacity flash drive, maybe look at something with a Type-A connector.

I was looking for flash drives for work, to be used on computers which lack Type-C, that's why they are no good to me.

        • I think that they should just include a type c to type A adapter in the box.

Then think about the product… its a $6 drive

if you dont like it buy from someone else… the market is 99% full of type A and people are 'questioning' the 1% that is type C???

          strange

      • What do you meannnnn? What else was I going to put in my conputers empty Type-C slot?

Finally USB-C drives come down in price … :-) Thanks!

  • 3.1 with 3.0 speeds?

    • More like 2.0 speeds. I've got one and it doesn't impress me much. The Type-A Sandisk Ultra USB 3.0 is much faster than this drive.

      • -1

        USB 2 is 60MB/s…

        • This drive wasn't much faster than that. Seriously, it felt like an old 2.0 flash drive. Unless i got a dud unit.

          • @nicrankin: It's double…

@askbargain: I'm just giving my real world experience with this drive. This drive felt as slow as a USB 2 drive.

            • @askbargain: ‘Up to’ 150MB/s for reads, likely less than half that on writes.

        • +3

Real world USB 2.0 tops out at 40-44MBps.

      • i second this. just got mine and its really slow. kinda bummed

    • USB 3.1 Gen 1 is exactly the same thing as USB 3.0, just with marketing.

      • True, thought it would be Gen 2.

      • It's because of USB standard name change from USB consortium.

  • Is it the regular price?

  • Officeworks currently has a cheapo brand 32GB stick for $5.98. https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/verbatim-3…
Not sure how good it is :/ Hopefully helps someone.

A lot of USB 3 drives are just as slow as USB 2 or even slower.

That said I bought several of this particular USB drive linked above and it is VERY slow. I bought at $4 in the NY sales and that was fine with me. It's for small files for the kids or if I'm desperate for a cheap drive to download a Windows install to.

I don't think the downvotes were very nice.

  • If you're plugging the drive into a usb3 port then you will only get 5G speeds, and even less if plugged into a usb2 port.

    • +2

‘Only get’ is a bit misleading you won’t get anywhere near 5Gb/s no matter what you plug it into, there’s only 1 or 2 external SSDs which are capable of saturating a 5Gb/s connection and they require thunderbolt 3.

Also USB3.1 gen 1 is exactly the same speed and specs as USB3.0, they simply renamed it.

USB3.1 gen 2, which this drive is not, is what is required for 10Gb/s.

This drive is advertised as ‘up to 150MB/s read’ it’s likely much slower writing. There’s a good chance the write speed is the same or similar on USB2 as 3.1, though reads should be faster.

  • Thanks, I got a few

  • Would office work price match this?
