Will You Be Cancelling Your eBay Plus Memberships?

I've seen many comments on recent deals, where people have mentioned that they will cancel their eBay Plus memberships, as the deals are tailored to new members and not existing members.

For me, I'm kind of bummed that I paid for a membership, and get worse deals than new members. I will keep it for now and make a decision later.

What are your thoughts? Will you cancel your membership?

Yep, pretty tired of everyone (and even apps and games now!) asking for constant wallet drain memberships/subscriptions. Only ones keeping:-

    • Amazon Prime
    • Netflix
    • Spotify
    • Playstation

    That's it!

    • +4

That is exactly how I feel. Give us your $40 for great deals and free shipping in some stores - turns out the great deals are 5% off, while new members get lured in with 15% off.

… and then there's the joy of the 'eBay Plus' filter checkbox in most searches.

        Scenario

        1. Search for $item, sort by lowest delivered price.
          Result : 104 results starting from $1.84

        2. Check 'eBay Plus' filter checkbox
          Result : 4 results from $5.95

Sweet - so the Plus checkbox just excludes >95% of sellers AND triples the price. Huzzah!

Combined with minimum spend, random voucher expiration and so on, Plus membership has been almost worthless to me.

Realistically, something like 1% off everything, no minimum spend, would have been a better value proposition.

    • Not even Mwave?

      • mWave had some really good sales @ end of last year
wish they have a list of 'past' mVIP deals and upcoming ones, makes it easier to put down the cash

It's true. "why take 1 payment when I can take payments forever" seems to be the new business model.

It took about a decade before I caved on a mobile phone plan, but I'm fiercely resisting cloud services and swear it will never happen with tv, music or games, and I can't see it happening for a delivery service either.

ebay membership is the most useless subscription I have found.

    pointless membership

I'll be cancelling, but I've taken full advantage of it. With my $29 membership I got:

    • $62 credit (then used to buy gift cards) via eBay plus live chat for a coupon not working
    • Approx $100 in savings during the 15% off eBay Plus Weekends
    • $10 credit to use on plus items
    • Cheap Micro SD Cards / Power Banks when the service was first introduced

Not bad if you ask me, not worth renewing though unless they change it.

    • I feel the same, no regret.

Already cancelled mine for when it expires in September. I singed up for the free home mini and the only thing I got from memory is a cheap micro SD.

…same. cancelled it straight away retaining all benefits until the end of trial period & also cancelled future payment in papypal just to be sure

  • If you do not cancel your eBay Plus membership before the 30-day trial period has ended, your membership will be automatically renewed and you will be charged the full annual subscription fee in accordance with membership policy

…just cancel the payment in paypal & in ebay. it wont renew and you definitely wont be charged

..ive got a couple months left of my free trial, wont pay for it after that…its only saved me $10 postage once on a bike light from pushys so definitely not worth it

  • +10

Couldn't even bother doing the free trial

    • Not for 15% off?

  • +5

I subscribed to the free 3 month trial not long ago. I instantly cancelled just incase I forgot.

  • Can you cancel it before renewal?

    • +2

      yes

    • yes…in your ebayplus page and also on paypal future payments or whatever they call it

There needs to be another option with the vote:

“Never bothered as the benefits just were not there”.

Just asking myself: Why would someone pay for it knowing that promotions come and go from time to time?

It is just like Youtube Red, there are add-ons to block the ADS, they solve your problem without having to spend a cent.

    • You could argue that YouTube Premium has some good value, unlike eBay Plus. With Google Play Music, ad-free YT on all platforms, background play, picture-in-picture, YT Music and YT Originals (though they'll now be open to all non-Premium accounts as well) I'd say YT Premium adds a lot of value.

  • Well, I was planned to cancel my membership after a year anyway, but I don't understand why ppl get so pissed about ebay not discounting for existing users?

First ebay offer discounts for membership (half price), then they offer free google home mini, and now discount code for new members. I think its a fair call, nothing to piss about.

Pretty much everyone had a piece of the cake, unless someone who is stupid enough to get the membership without any promotion.

    • We live in a society full of entitled whingers, nothing is ever good enough.

  • How do you actually cancel it? I signed up for the free trial last week as I thought I might need it for a return but I didn't in the end. I want to cancel it now so I don't forget and get charged.

As I said in a deal thread, I always expect companies to offer better deals to new customers; its part of business. But there’s a major difference between offering certain deals to existing customers whilst giving better ones to new customers, and giving deals to new customers whilst giving effectively nothing to the existing lot.

Apart from the cheap MicroSD deals which lured me (like many others) I’ve noticed no other benefit to being en eBay Plus member. Often, I’ll find that the eBay Plus “deals” are just the standard product with free shipping, and 90-100% of the shipping costs added to the purchase price, relative to other offers. You would need to purchase somewhere in the realm of 30-50 average “eBay Plus listings” in order to recoup the $49 initial cost. And that’s before considering Amazon’s ongoing improvements which means they’re often as cheap (or cheaper) than the cheapest eBay options, but with a better overall experience.

You can tell that eBay are getting desperate, since they’re running so many low/no final value fee promotions. But with Amazon likely replacing eBay for a lot of different purchase cases, and more and more sellers turning away from the platform due to being shafted by PayPal backing dodgy buyers, I see some tougher times falling on eBay, and pulling stunts like this is not the way to get through it.

Lol, as if I would ever have one

The shipping costs I saved on two purchases I made just afer signing up, fully covered the membership fee.

As someone who purcahses from eBay a lot (around 60 items last year), I think it may be worth staying a member. I've got five months to decide before my membership renews.

    • You don't lose anything at all by cancelling now; you'll still enjoy the benefits until the expiry date; then decide if you want to re-start.
Leaving it to the last month just means the chance of forgetting and letting the auto-renew occur

See I feel I have made great use of my membership. For $49 I got a google home mini and free delivery on a ton of items. I don't buy as much anymore but I have easily saved $49 in postage in a lot of months, not including any promos or other savings. While not as good as Prime, I think I might keep it around. Some items I buy have postage between $5 and $15 so it works out great for what I buy but ymmv.

    Already cancelled….

    I've just canceled mine today. I don't think I've had much value… Although I think I only paid $29.

  • If you cancel ebay plus on your PayPal right away does it cancel trial right away and do I need to cancel it on eBay as well as PayPal if that makes sense. Or should I say if cancel both right away does trial end right away.

  • If you cancel today, do you get to keep eBay Plus until it expires?
