About the Product

Our natural clear zinc sunscreen is formulated with pharmaceutical grade zinc oxide as the only active ingredient for protection against broad spectrum UVA and UVB with no compromises.

Natural clear zinc

Ethical Zinc SPF 50+ natural clear zinc sunscreen provides a physical barrier and all natural protection from the sun's harmful rays, while staying clear on your skin.

Made and tested in Australia, harnessing the latest ZinClear XP™ zinc oxide technology, to offer unparalleled levels of sun protection, lightness and transparency for everyday wear. Suitable for sensitive skin, your face and body.

It's more than just SPF

UV light consists of both UVA and UVB rays, with both contributing to skin damage caused by sun exposure.

Many chemical UV absorbers provide inadequate UVA protection. SPF ratings only measure protection from UVB, leaving out potential damage from UVA.

Our zinc has been specifically designed to enhance the UVA protection performance and offers market-leading protection across the UV spectrum.

Safe from chemicals

Zinc oxide has a long history in skincare products such as calamine lotion and nappy rash creams, for use on even the most sensitive of skin.

Many common chemical sunscreens have been found to cause damage to coral and ocean life plus free radical damage, endocrine, hormone and DNA disruption in humans.

Ethical Zinc is safe from harmful chemicals and is blended with moisturising coconut oil.

Works in the real world

Common chemical based sunscreens might pass tests in the lab, but have been shown to degrade or break down in as little as 30 minutes when exposed to real sunlight, limiting their ability to protect you.

Ethical Zinc's physical zinc oxide barrier keeps working under real world conditions, maintaining very high broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection.

  • What's the expiry date on this?

    • Dec 2021 or around 3 years.

  • +2

    Prob worth mentioning it's 100ml.
    I would buy if I had anything else on my Amazon list…

  • Thanks OP, bought.

  • Thanks, got one too… been looking for something like this.

  • Thanks bought. Been looking at zinc sunscreens lately

    What is unethical about other zinc?

    • Most zinc products are our friend. It’s not that common you don’t see some kind of compromise in either SPF, water resistance, price point or use of preservatives etc with other zinc products. We are more at war with chemical filters!

  • OP is it non-nano?

    • The definition of a nanoparticle can vary depending on regulatory market so there is a lot of inconsistency in the market place, especially when it comes to the advertisement of some sunscreens.

      We choose not to make a non-nano claim on our product, however there is significant scientific evidence from regulatory testing to suggest that nanoparticles are not harmful when used on skin as a sunscreen.

      Major regulatory bodies worldwide, including Australia, USA and Europe have all heavily scrutinsed nano zinc oxide, over years of testing and concluded full regulatory and safety approval.

  • Thanks OP…good price for this product.

  • whats the ppd rating for this? also is there no white cast at all? zinc usually has a white/purple tint on darker skin types.

    OP how is the Zinc Oxide made? Is it natural zinc oxide or is it lab formed. Also you can’t call it chemical free as ZnO is a chemical.

  • Nice - been looking in to zincs recently for scuba diving and snorkelling as normal sunscreens are toxic to reefs.

    • "been looking in to zincs recently for scuba diving and snorkelling as normal sunscreens are toxic to reefs."

      Might be good for you too, not to lather up in a toxic substance…..

      • I only use sunscreen where needed and work inside all day so I'm fine. I am more concerned about the marine environment due to chemicals than my own skin…

    • You can get zinc sunscreens from Woolworths and Coles.

        • That product, despite its brand name, contains chemical UV filters.

          • @vestrosaurus: such as? I can't see it on the list of ingredients. active or inactive.

            Their Zinz Oxide is also 220mg/g

            • +2

              @pformag: Woolworths reformulated the product in 2017 (ARTG listing 288157). Their listing states:

              Woolworths Clear Zinc Sunscreen SPF30:
              * 4-methylbenzylidene camphor 40 mg/g
              * bemotrizinol 20 mg/g
              * diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate 25 mg/g
              * octyl methoxycinnamate 80 mg/g
              * zinc oxide 60 mg/g

              A bit strange for a product that is branded so prominently as Clear Zinc. The Zinc Oxide component is only 6% which is a very low concentration.

              You can search for product names or AUSTL numbers here yourself: https://tga-search.clients.funnelback.com/s/search.html?quer…

              • @vestrosaurus: Crazy, so how does Woolworths get away with putting 220m/mg on the label of their sunscreen, when it only 60m/mg?

                Thanks for that info

  • Can you advise your non-active ingredients?

    • +1

      Sure. It’s already on the listing.

      Ingredients
      Zinc Oxide, Medium Chain Triglycerides, White Beeswax, Coco-caprylate, Castor Oil, Coconut Oil, Polyglyceryl-3 Polyricinoleate, Isostearic Acid, D-alpha-tocopheryl Acetate, French Vanilla

      We spell these out on our website product page, under the ingredients tab if you are interested in what they are.

      The Environmental Working Group rated our ingredients their best score for a low hazard rating.

      Hope this helps!

    How can you be sure zinc oxide is marine or reef friendly when it's classified as ecotoxic (in Europe)?
