Motorola Moto G6 Play 32GB/3GB - $229 @ Officeworks

210

Hi all,

Officeworks has the Motorola Moto G6 Play for $229. Link above is for Deep Indigo colour, but Fine Gold colour is the same price:

After asking some questions I ended up getting this phone and I'm very happy with it. It's obviously not top of the line, but for less than $250, it's a jolly good phone. Full specs can be found at GSM Arena, and I'm happy to answer any questions.

Bought this phone from Ebay during the Pooltime Sale for my son. Seems like a decent budget phone.

    • how much was it ?

      • Think I paid 215 delivered.

    Thanks for the post.
I did my research and decided to wait for a new Huawei P smart 2019 if it will be around $300 then I'll pull the trigger.

Thanks for letting us all know.

  • I'm not sure GSM Arena lists the true specs of this one. None of the listed versions match the LTEs listed on the Officeworks site.

    • In general I'd pay the extra for the G5S Plus. Better processor, screen resolution and dual rear camera is worth the extra $58. Although that bigger battery the G6 Play has is nice and if you don't care about the processor/resolution/camera then yeah, this is great.

    • Yeah, turns out there are actually 7 versions of the Moto G6 play. The one listed (and the one I got from Amazon) is the XT1922-1. I can't find a definitive list of bands for the -1 though. It works fine with Kogan mobile and amaysim FWIW.

  • Can you still use Woolworths wish cards at office works? Last time they refused e-gift cards, but I'm not sure about the physical ones?

Edit: nvm googled it, it was Coles group cards that were accepted there.

Care to elaborate, Woolworths wish card won't work at Officeworks.

    • +3

You can still use Coles/Myer gift cards at Officeworks.

  • V/cheap.

  • Are these dual or single sims?

      • +3

I can confirm they have 2 SIM slots plus a micro SD slot. That was one of the things I was interested in because I know the G5 range had the second SIM or micro SD set up, and wasn't keen on it.

        • +3

that was the G5S and G5S+ - my G5+ has dual sim and micro sd at the same time i.e. 3 slots

          • @Wilburre: Ah, thank you for the clarification

            • @moar bargains: eh its just semantics. actually looking for another deal on the g6+, have been pretty happy with the 5+ but want something a bit faster now

Snapdragon 430, no wonder it's so cheap. I'm sure it's a decent enough phone for basic use, but that's a slow processor if you want to play games or anything.

Thanks for the post. Good deal! OP, from your linked forum post looks like you were similar situation to us. My wife has G3 and is finding camera laggy and poor quality. Wanting a relatively cheap upgrade with better camera performance. Have young kids so don't want to spend too much but also want a reasonable camera. How do you find the camera and performance of G6 play compared to G3? Wondering if worth the extra $$ for the G6.

    • Yes, same situation. I have 1.9 kids, and being able to take a shot quickly is very important. I actually went into the good guys to try out the G6 vs G6 play, and my impression was that the camera on the G6 play was actually more responsive despite being the cheaper phone. YMMV of course, but that was part of my decision. Another part was that the G6 play uses the same charging cable as most older phones (micro USB), and while I can't wait for USB C to take over, not having to replace all your cables and chargers is a good thing on a tight budget.
Hope that helps, and happy to answer any more questions!

        You have 1.9 kids?

The Motorola "twist twist" to activate camera is awesome on my G5, as is "chop chop" to activate the torch. Hard to go to a different brand when I use those 2 gestures all the time. Assume the G6 will have them also?

  • Why no NFC for the Aussie version? Otherwise I'd buy one as I'm very happy with my G5.

    • i believe if you spend a bit more on the g6 you'll get nfc. presumably it was seen as unimportant in a cheapish lower specced device

"Play" models are stripped back budget versions.
They operate with slower processors to save power, which gives them advantages of longer battery life & lower price.

Same price as big w (can use wish and get rewards points).

    • +2

Ah, that's who they're price matching!

    • Nice! With recent 7% discount Wish cards = $213 plus points! With 15% via UK ebay =$195.
Not much stock near me but can c&c in some stores.

Looking to replace a $138 (2016) G4 Play - this has longer screen + Gorilla Glass, much larger capacity but fixed battery, better cameras, etc.
G4 Play 2nd SIM (2G) is now useless & OS updates are unlikely beyond current Android 7.1.1.

Is there any reason this wouldn't be a better deal? https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07D9VZNJF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i…

Well personally I think the black/deep indigo one looks $31.40 better ;)

  • I just got the gold model from office works for $229. For some reason premium delivery was free so I ordered at 10:00am today and it was delivered by 4:00pm. Not bad.
