American Express Misleading Customers with Their Deals

Very disappointed that Amex did not honour the Domayne offer. The offer clearly says that it is valid at domayne stores and the north ryde store shows up on the map and the list with the offer. However i was told that in the terms and conditions, it is not valid at north ryde. This is clearly misleading information as it shouldn't show up on the app or their website if it isn't included in the offer. I only shopped there because of the offer.

You should be able to return whatever you bought since you were misled.

Returning a item to Domayne because AMEX didn't give a kickback, isn't a valid reason for a return of a open product.

Domayne would be participating in the promotion though. Not like Amex just decided to give cashback for some random store they had no agreement with?

Clearly you don't know the Amex deals. Thats what they do.

what? you think Amex just make up these promo's and cover the $ themselves… and the stores have no involvement?

Apart from the shop small promo, every store specific promo is most certainly organised with and funded (partly, mostly or entirely) by the retailer

              Yes they do

So back up a bit, you just said they don't 'make up' deals and 'cover' it themselves, but they do. The shop small promos are just an example of that.

You didn’t qualify because you bought your Pixel 3 at Harvey Norman @ Domayne

Excludes all payments made at Harvey Norman @ Domayne (Alexandria, Auburn, Belrose and North Ryde), Harvey Norman Commercial Division and Harvey Norman Insurance Replacement Division

The lesson in this thread is read the terms and conditions before buying anything with an Amex Statement Credit on offer.

Also worthwhile checking out posts on OzBargain, usually someone has worked out any potential icebergs.

Registrations Capped AmEx Statement Credits: Domayne Spend $750 or More, Get $150 Back

Should change the thread title to read "Make sure you read Amex Statement Credits Terms and Conditions before buying" …

    • +1

Well, the store shouldn't show up when you open the offer if the offer isn't available there

      • +1

Do they sell furniture at the North Ryde store or is it only electronics? If the former, then your fault for not reading the terms and conditions properly and there's no one to blame but yourself.

        • +2

North Ryde store sell both furniture and electronics

    Que?

Amex should be clear about what stores are eligible - not provide conflicting information. Consumers shouldn't have to read all T&Cs to double check that information advertised is correct! It the advertiser's responsibility the provide correct information about products and services. Consumer law is Aus say products should be as they are described- i would argue that they haven't done that in this case.

    • They were clear. OP just can't read/couldn't be bothered reading the Terms and Conditions.

      • I think your missing the point of this post. Its to help others not get caught out. Ive had this same problem with Amex deals in the past and it is very misleading.

        • +6

Yeah, and they can not get caught out by reading the terms and conditions. Or even the thread on the offer. The OP is calling Amex misleading, but the terms and conditions are there in the offer when you save it to your card i.e. purchases made at Harvey Norman @ Domayne are ineligible.

Had the OP bought $750 of Domayne gift cards, then paid for his Pixel 3 at Harvey Norman @ Domayne, he would have received his $150 statement credit …

You can't expect everything in life to be spoonfed to you … With Amex Statement Credits, it pays to read the terms and conditions.

Domayne North Ryde was definitely eligible, bought a furniture there and I got the cashback. Harvey Norman North Ryde is not eligible, as stated in their fine prints.

  • " However i was told that in the terms and conditions, it is not valid at north ryde."

I think the Ts & Cs sum it up nicely. Stop Complaining!
