Fan That Can Tilt down

As silly as this sounds the cheap fans from big W I bought a year or more ago are great they have a remote, a timer, 3 speeds and are low powered (50 watts roughly) but they cannot tilt or angle down so they are useless for my bed and when sitting on the ground.

Anyone know of cheap sub $70 fans that have good angle and tilt mechanism so that can be placed in a room and angled to hit anywhere.

Looking for large cheap great value ones.

Unfortunately some fans don't include this handy description so may have to go off other users personal first hand input.

I can say that the fenici big W ones so not have this tilt down feature but do have automatic rotate and multi speeds and even a timer.

Additionally any good cheap under $80 evaporative coolers with angle down functionality is very welcome.

Delivery for both products is a bonus but not necessary as my housemate has a car and actually this post is mainly for him and not myself as he does not have a fan at all atm during this intense heat wave we are all experiencing in Sydney NSW.

Thank you ozb. You are the best.

TL;DR looking for sub $70 fan with look down function and / or sub $80 evaporative cooler with look down function

I'm trying to imagine someone lazy enough to need that function lol.. All pedo fans tilt down but it's a manual adjustment. I have mine angled just right so it hits me in bed but also when sitting etc. Not sure one exists to tilt via remote lol would be expensive!!

There is a reason no one has shortened pedestal to pedo before (not just because that is not how it is spelt)

      • -8

        What's the reason?

        • +10

ít's not spelt like that and pedo is short for pedophile.

        • -3

Because it's wrong, you think OP is being lazy and you went ahead and created a shortened form of a word without even realising what your new word means.

@smartazz104: What a snowflake society Australia has become… Aussie slang is shortening words… its you that has the dirty mind..

              @Jugganautx:

              Aussie slang is shortening words

I guarantee you've never heard someone use this short form of the word pedestal before. Aussie slang isn't just shortening every damn word.

            • @Jugganautx: Yeah, Australia has really become a snowy society.

            • @Jugganautx: Pedophobia!!!!

        • Because everyone wears a pedo-meter these days.

I’m not a fan of pedos

Very few people are, they attract bears.

    • You misunderstand the request / question but it is ok it might be my fault I did rush the description and so here is a better explanation.

I need a fan that can manually with your hands be tilted down to aim at persons below 58 cm vertical height from the fan as the fan I currently have (https://www.bigw.com.au/product/fenici-40cm-pedestal-fan-whi…) can only blow on one level of height and does not own the ability to tilt down or up with or without a remote.

The lowest height it can blow at is 58 cm and below that I would have to dismantle it and fit some other do it yourself device contraption to make it be able to blow at all angles and rotate up down left right etc.

Does anybody know of a cheap 40 cm fan that can manually or remotely tilt up or down?

My current fan uses 40 watts max is 40 cm in diameter and cost me $30 AUD from Big W.

It has remote and on the fan button functions for different speeds, timers and can even auto rotate left to right and back again.

If there is any more confusion with my sentences please tell me as sometimes I do miss certain words or burp phrases out messily and unexpectedly.

      • Most pedestal fans have adjustable height, and can tilt the head down a bit. If that's not low enough for you, just get a floor fan and prop it up a bit as required.

      • I need a fan that can manually with your hands be tilted down to aim at persons below 58 cm vertical height

That is a very short person.

        • I think the politically correct term is dwarf or is it midget I forget nowadays.

How do you spot a pedo in a school zone?

They are the ones driving at the speed limit.

    • -1

I don't get it I used to but I forgot the reason of the punchline now.

      Please explain.

      • +1

Well everyone else is breaking the speed limit as usual but the pedo is driving slowly to maximize time to look at the young people.

        • Ah I get it I assumed it was so he doesn't kill his potential mates and not the looking part but both make sense now just figuring out all possibilities of the joke to gain full humour availability.

Welcome to ozbargain where we find the best deals and prices have a nice day.

  • Did you try pushing down the fan manually? Most fans I have seen can be pushed and simply clicked into a range of different tilts. This includes the cheap 20 dollars pedestal fans.

    • Yes I nearly broke it this way stopped before I felt the build quality crack.

      • does it have a bolt with a handle on it that needs to be loosened first? Most fans have something like that on them.

    • Hopefully they mean tilt down and not left and right which I am assuming.

    • This is the fan I own and it only tilts slight up and left and right so useless for if your bed is below the minimum height which for this exact mode fan is around 58 cm mark (below that you can direct the air flow at all have tried many times in my many months of usage especially during summer nights).

      • but it's Heller good.

  • -1

    What about tilt up

    • Would be nice but the down is more needed in my use case scenario.

Feel the cooling wind in every corner of the room with the Sunbeam FA8900's tri-movement oscillation to move the fan-head up, down and all around - even in a figure 8

Just sit tight until a discount of 55% or better!

      • Thanks it is on the to try list.

  • chock it at an angle with bricks?
    .

    • Tried with bad results to the face. Even with rope and paperweight it was not a solution.

      • Cut post shorter?
        Or use heavier/more bricks..
        .

All pedestal fans tilt up and down and furthermore are height adjustable.

Its just a matter of where you place the fan to get the desired breeze.

    No remote needed.

You learn this in geometry at school

    • Unfortunately I don't have enough room or space to MacGyver it towards my direction otherwise this post would not exist. Believe me I have tried.

  • How effective are these evaporative coolers? Is it in between a fan and AC? Are there certain conditions it works best

    • -1

My research indicates to me that they only work for cool to moderately warm temperatures.

Above a certain degree I think maybe 27 degrees celsius they are useless as quoted by many users of evaporative coolers.

The general consensus is that it is not as good as it seems and only really works in medium warm to cool environments and not extremely hot or even hot environments.

    • +1

They are great inland where the air is dry. Anywhere near the coast they are useless due to the humidity.

    • Completely useless over the last bit of heat in Melbourne.

  • If your bed is quite close to the floor you could approach it from the other angle and try a box fan that tilts up. I use this one and it's great. It doesn't have a remote though.

    http://www.omegaaltise.com.au/product/product_details/Coolin…

It does tilt down as well so you could alternatively put it on top of a desk or a box and turn the grill downwards.

    • Might work.

My son had one of these https://www.bigw.com.au/product/fenici-45cm-high-velocity-pe… it does not pivot up and down but the range of breeze is strong enough to cover a bed. The main feature is the motor is 80w and has 3 settings (low, good breeze & strong wind) and makes the crappy plastic ones compare worse than your dog breathing on you.
I recently bought 2 of them, 1 for bedroom and other for living room. The blades are metal and really push the air at you, often annoying so if you have papers on your desk and forget to put a weight on them.
I had been using the cheap plastic ones that you can adjust up/down both the cage and the stand, but found after about a yr they seem to stop pushing any air (yes I cleaned the cage and blades but it made little difference).
Not sure about the floor bit, though if it was far enough away (I use one when in a recliner but is just over 2m away and works great) it might extend down to the floor. The midpoint of the cage is 103cm high and my bed is 55cm so at 1.1m it fans me very well on the bed.

In my 2mth search for a decent fan, I looked at over 100 of the dam things. Many DO NOT pivot up/down and though less, many do not move the fan height much or at all. My big wish is for manufacturers to put the wattage of the motor on the box as this was the main thing I looked for. Some say they are powerful but only have 30 or 40 watt motors that are shit, anything less than 50 is not worth it and closer to 80/100 you are going to get good power. My daughter is so sick of the heat she wants the arlec industrial fan, 145cm cage and 230watt motor…..I reckon it would keep her pinned to the wall.

    • +1

      Haha great write up Rel63.

Yes they have a long ways to go at getting all the details on the packaging right.

I went with a 40 watt for starters for experimenting reasons but may go up over time until I find my designated sweetspot.

I have feeling between 80 and 150 watts might be it.

That 230 watt industrial fan looks hilarious but honestly might get one for lols to put in a large open hall type room.

230 watt is still nothing compared to an air conditioner on conservative reduced energy usage settings.

I wonder what the fan makers think when they use their own product and cannot tilt up or down.

      Always makes me wonder.

Been using this for couple months. If its tilt down and set to lowest height, it might reach floor from a meter away. Its quite noisy though.

  • A manual tilt? Just buy anything other than the absolute cheapest.

    Bunnings has many on display

  • +1

    Vornado 660. Just do it

  • Wall mounted ones? They specialise in angling downwards.. https://www.bunnings.com.au/euromatic-40cm-retro-wall-fan_p0…
    Remote control version - https://www.bunnings.com.au/arlec-40cm-black-wall-fan-with-r…

  • Buy a bigger bed?

    • That is one option. Put an extra mattress on top or below the current one maybe but then it might be too awkwardly high.

  • get a desktop fan and angle it up

  • Mount fan onto ceiling.
