Female Fashion and Beauty Ozbargain

I’m on Ozbargain all the time. My wife does sometimes too, but only when she has a specific item in mind she wants to buy.

She says Ozbargain is not good for fashion, makeup and other women’s beauty products.

She does however spend a lot of time looking at clothes and finding good deals, often through instragram influencers…. unfortunately… (something about that whole concept irritates me)

I realise Ozbargain has a fashion and apparel section, but I asked if she would be a part of a community run site for girls that focused exclusively on fashion and beauty. She said she would.

Wondering if there are any alternative site out there that focus on this? If not, we should start one. I know it would save me a few dollars!

I feel if this website was to complete with instagram influences, it’d have to have a more visually appealing layout and colour scheme.

Dunno if they're still active, but the Vogue forums? Unless you're looking for a site about bargains that focuses on fashion and beauty

    • +2

I thought the Vogue forum was pretty dead, beauty related at least. Reddit r/AustralianMakeup and AusSkincare has discussions about makeup/beauty as well as PSA for any deals.

  • I'm glad this website doesnt compete with instagram influences. Bargains compete with other bargains only. Oh and opinions competing together.

The layout and content keeps me coming back to this website.

Checkout the sister sites or hotukdeals when searching for women's beauty and fashion products. Learn how they post and get feedback on their bargains.

This community could probably benefit from the insight of your wife. Do you think she can start posting bargains and become an ozbargain influencer?

    • I’m glad too. I like the layout, it’s efficient.

My wife has wanted to post, at times 30% off a specific makeup brand here on Ozbargain, but she ends up posting it on her own instagram instead.

My wife actually doesn’t really like instragram influences either, but she follows many of them so she doesn’t miss out on deals.

I asked her a few questions

1: Why don’t you go to Ozbargain for beauty products

“I have in the past, I done a lot of searches for shoes lately (she needed to buy a pair of fashionable, but orthopaedic shoes for work) but nothing really comes up, or if it does it’s expired”

2: Where is the best place for you to find fashion and beauty deals

“Emails from stores I am subscribed to, which is annoying because I get so many emails”

3: How many instragram inflenuces do you follow?

“I mostly follow brands on instagram, not influences. It’s hard to say. I follow 900 people or pages on instragram, 30% are brands”

4: Would you continue following all the brands if there was a website that aggregated all the best deals

“Yes because I’d need to see how they looked and get style ideas, but I wouldn’t follow as many”

5: Do you think there needs to be a seperate website for fashion and beauty products or would you like to see Ozbargain post more of these deals

“I just think that Ozbargain would attract more girls if the website was aimed at girls, at the moment it doesn’t look asthetically pleasing and that’s what girls like. It’s probably better to have a seperate website because then girls don’t have to look through sheds and computer products to find what they want (lol)”

Good research. I don't think her need for bargains is going to be satisfied anywhere. Ozbargain is built up by the users, and there are female users that do post from time to time. She is right about the style ideas and photos not being enough on a lot of websites, hence the need for influencers. Trying to buy a coat for my wife recently on aliexpress did not appeal as the look and feel of the product wasnt appropriately conveyed.

People who need orthopedic shoes for work will do the research, find something that suits them, then find the best price for the item and then post it here. Also the guidelines for ozbargain saves genuine deals and savings for us, not just promotions like social media does.

I feel sorry for your wife's instagram. Sounds like its 30% advertising. Consumerism is one hell of a drug. That's a lot of scrolling.

I think that dresslily website caters well for women's goods. I dont think beauty products (makeup and creams etc) will have a good appeal online, and will almost always be something people need to buy physically from a shop.

I just think that Ozbargain would attract more girls if the website was aimed at girls, at the moment it doesn’t look asthetically pleasing and that’s what girls like.

As a girl, if you make it aesthetically pleasing, it'll just take longer to load the website …

@The Wololo Wombat - tell your wife Frankie4 has a sale starting on Wednesday at 12pm. Amazing shoes, designed by a podiatrists and physio - most styles can fit orthotics/have customisable inserts and they actually look stylish! I'm on my feet all day for work and for the first time in years I'm pain free at the end of the day :)

Also, I'm a girl and have found lots of beauty/clothing deals on here, it's definitely not the main focus but I was one of the lucky ones that scored a bottle of V&R Flowerbomb when Target were clearing out their perfumes in 2013!

spend a lot of time looking at clothes and finding good deals

How much is enough for her? E.g. if she has 6 pairs of jeans, will she buy more if she finds a good deal? Is she into fast fashion?

    • My wife is pretty thrifty. Sure she buys more clothes then me, but it’s not too excessive.

Though, I just asked her how many pairs of jeans she owns and she said 8….

Depends on the fashion brand I guess. Plenty of posts for clothing by users. We often see bonds, uniqlo, the major brands like Nike and Adidas that have sales.

As for women's clothing at Westfield's. I never see them posted. Probably a good thing.

    • I know I wouldn't make up and clothes all over ozbargain :) Some is fine :)

"In Fashion" and "Bargains" seem to have an inverse relationship, being such an image based thing, I can see why OzBargain would be less suited than Instagram which is all about image/images.

    • I still think that girls would appreciate a one stop shop for all fashion bargains - a community and a website they can trust.

If we encourage more of this on Ozbargain, it will be at the expense of other deals.

That’s why, for this category specifically, a dedicated website would be great, with a layout that is less efficient than the current format, but more visually appealing

I know you can customise what you see in your feed and even customise your layout, but it’s why most people buy iPhone instead of (arguably) better and cheaper android - the software - it’s custom built ready to go and just works without having to tweak anything.

1: Why don’t you go to Ozbargain for beauty products
“I have in the past, I done a lot of searches for shoes lately (she needed to buy a pair of fashionable, but orthopaedic shoes for work) but nothing really comes up, or if it does it’s expired”

When this has happened to me in the past, looking for something in particular and it comes up on ozbargain, but always 'expired' . I then look at the epxired bargains, and see what site it is from, and go check those sites for any good current deals suitable for my needs.

I have done this with booking cruise. The cruise deals posted on ozbargain seem very rare. Anyway, found many expired deals, then noticed they were all mostly from about 2-3 sites. I got on phone searching 1 site, while friend was cruising with looked on his phone at another, we eventually found a good deal, and now know where to look first for any future good cruise deals.
Ozcruising is 1 of the best sites to check, then click "hot deals" https://m.ozcruising.com.au/cruise-specials

Just checked now, and can go 7 nights (quadshare) brisbane to New Caledonia for $516PP .

Another good site I found is dccruising (deck chair cruising) but ozcruising is usually better (on the same cruise same date, ozcruising is usually the chesper option still).

So when you see expired deals, use this as a reference to start your own search, then if you discover a great deal searching yourself/herself, then post it here

  • My wife made another email account and subscribes to their newsletter to all kinds of clothing shops, makeup & beauty etc. Works for her as she doesn’t use ozbargin

you could try Fashion Lane for your needs ….

  • Don't let your (presume non-actual wombat) wife discover the instragreenery accounts on instagram, or you will require a machete just to get around the house. Chloe Morello a benign influence by comparison with that, expense of promoted crap aside.

OzBargain has branded Crocs coming, allegedly, and should pretty up website & deals here, in an extra-orangey kinda way…

    :)

  • Ozbargain is not good for fashion, makeup and other women’s beauty products.

Fashion is tricky as the latest trends are generally not items that would be on sale - usually not bargains :/

However, for make-up and skin care, there are deals here. Our users also post deals for Sephora and mecca which would sell high-end stuff.

In other words, she may still find OzBargain useful to complement her shopping experience if she knows what's she's after after researching latest trends and products.

  • Community? Beautyheaven…

Don't know if they have deals, though. I don't seek out these deals very often, only when I need stuff.
