I'm Looking to Upgrade My Missus Car to BMW X1

Hi all

I'm looking to upgrade my missus car to BMW X1 20i.

Just wondering if anyone have bought the car and have the good deal to share.

So many posts about comparing the x1 to Mercedes, Camry, corolla to even getting delivered a wrong x1. Even some posts about x4 and x5. Check it out.

        He has a missus car.

Must be an autocorrect for Mitsubishi.

          Diamonds are forever

          • @modgod: so true, my dad's outlander only had tires changed in 12 yrs!

Isn't that the poverty pack version for badge snobs?

    • +3

I don't think they actually advertise it as such.

      • They probably do… at the Mercedes dealership

      • Unadvertised feature.

Consider the Active Tourer Series 2 218i Msport or luxury. Some great deals as its effectively the same as the X1, but in people mover compact shape. Get her to test drive that with the comfort pack. 8inch wide screen. Good turning circle and fuel efficient around town.

Oh yes, turning circle is really important when you consider a car.

      Take advice from this person.

It will have less street cred from the 4WD soccer moms though.

It's BMW's worst car. Unlike almost everything they've ever made it's front wheel drive. It's beside the point of buying a BMW!

You may as well buy a golf or an ASX and save a fortune.

      • +4

I thought the point of buying a BMW X1 was the badge?

      • -1

It has the cache of the BWM without the price tag. That's the point. Bang for your buck if you know anything about this car it's a hidden bargain by that manufacturer. If your've driven it and the type of people that will drive this kind of car, they don't need to see the tail come out. Its a good car for what it brings to the table. Well worth the look for OP. By the way my wife tested 17 cars and the X1. In the end it was the active tourer.

      • +3

Yes, but then you can tell everyone you've got a BMW … and then slowly back away when they ask you which one.

      • +1

Not to mention that it is ugly as s***. Anyone remember the Mitsubishi Nimbus? That's what it reminds me of.

        • What does your wife drive? If I had a choice it wouldn't have been a BMW. I got her to try 15 other cars. The AT is BMWs competitor to the Merc B class. That's another option, but they want the X1. Having said that. The AT is similar size without the extra price, AWD more maintenance issues. You have to look at if you really need the AWD system. The good thing is the X1 is designed by an Aussie.

          • @Melb69:

The good thing is the X1 is designed by an Aussie.

Why is that a good thing?

            • @whooah1979: Because it's good to see Aussies doing well in the car industry. Especially in the industrial design field. Which is very hard as few top design jobs and very competitive. Calvin Luk has a good story as to how he got the job at BMW. Car also looks good for an SUV IMO

If you want the badge, the GLA is built a lot better than X1

    • That would look funny with a BMW badge.

  • Probably isn't an upgrade.

Read title as "Looking to upgrade misses to BMW"

Have you looked at Volvo xc40?

    • does that come in BMW or?

  • I read it as "I have a small penis and need something to compensate for it, but I won't admit the car is for me"

  • So many here get so hung up when someone dares to mention wanting a luxury brand car whether it's a BMW, Mercedes, Lexus etc… We can't all go around driving in Camry's.

OP, by all accounts, the X1 is a great car and a hidden gem as someone pointed above. The space inside is surprisingly bigger than what you'd expect looking from the outside.

    What will it be replacing?

    Mercedces over BMW any day.
    Chalk and cheese

  • BM trouble you, Mercedes bends both over rated over priced European Fords or Commodores [both dead now]. If you want prestige Lexus, not impressed by those much either glorified Toyota’s. Porsche Panamera, Porsche Cayenne turbo, if your going to go hard then don’t go half way. Jaguar F Pace, hope this helps.

    • +2

Not sure if you're having a stroke or I am, reading that. Since when are Lexus 'prestige'? Luxury, sure, but not regarded as prestige. Also, I don't think the X1 is in the same ballpark as Panamera or Cayenne Turbo.

I second the GLA over the X1 mentioned above, much much better car.

I got one for the wife, my opinion take it for a long test drive…
Personally i find the suspension noisy and hard compared to my 3 series.

Its a roomy car for its size, the boot is ok for groceries etc.
The GLA I find a too small.

Had Mercedes in the past, after sales was ok, had some stuff fixed under goodwill, was weary of going to BMW but thought would try it out.
I love the driving experience in the 3 series, really dislike the X1, but its the wife car and she seems happy.

I find Audi had a better build quality and had a few in the past no major issues, but the Q3 wasn't really to my wife liking.
