The "hanging tennis ball from the ceiling" sounds like great (better) idea! I'm going to make one in my garage this weekend.

That;s the ladies car version. Guys normally use cricket balls.

    • I've been using the tennis ball for years, just hang it so that when the windscreen touches the ball, that's when you park your car perfectly EVERY time.

  • +4

hey thanks for the tip, never thought of using a hanging tennis ball! great free tip.

Yeah, idea been around for ages. Get someone to guide your car as close as you want to the garage wall. Then, hang a tennis ball from the ceiling so it just touches yor windscreen (or rear window). Now you can fly into your garage and slam on the brakes when the ball is approaching the windscreen. Total cost: 75 cents. Telling ozbargain members how cool this idea is: priceless

      • +3

75c but with OW price guarantee you could get it for 71c

  • this product has been around for decades through different brands
price is dear even for 2

    • +1

Seriously? A twin pack delivered for $25 is expensive? I find that hard to believe that a good quality product can be had for less (and I'm not claiming anything about the quality of this product).

Dear me, maybe buy a $5 camping chair that will fall apart. Take out shipping of this item around $9-10 and divide by 2 that's $7.50 a unit. Please be nice and fluffy, I'm just here for the free cake.

        Are drinking again?

        • +2

Ahh the window lock saga. Thanks for the memories lazed.

        • My drinking friend, always hear

        The cake is a lie!

        • If I hurt you in this life time I would most likely be reborn as a tadpole… my sincere apologies, most apologetic

very awful colour. reminds me of a hearing aid or granny panties

    • That's exactly what I was gonna say (the hearing aid part not the panties part).

Maybe you prefer pink? You could always use your old nail polish, embellish with diamonds and give it a name like "posh" Just a thought.

I might buy one of these for my neighbours across the road. Last night they reversed into the brick column next to their driveway and smashed in the front and rear left doors by wedging their car into the immovable bricks. Cue half an hour of chiselling bricks out so they could release the car and finally it was free. They then drove it off the driveway and parked it on the front lawn so they could get car #2 out (which was initially parked in front of car #1).

No, they didn't drive car #2 into the same brick column. Instead, they overcompensated and steered away from it - right into car #1 still parked on their front lawn next to the driveway.

So now they've smashed the rear bumper on car #2 in addition to smashing in the rear left panel on car #1 (which had previously been undamaged) so their Easter will be an expensive one…

I cannot see how this thing is more reliable than the tennis ball or just a mark in the wall.

While the perceptible discount is good I think it is a useless item, thus I am giving it a neg vote:

    1) What happens when the battery fails or the device just stops working?
    2) What happens if it gets bumped or the position is knocked askew?
    3) I certainly can't believe that the stopping distance with this thing is more adjustable than a tennis ball hanging from the ceiling.

    • +2

We've had one for over a year, and still on the original batteries.
It flashes amber as you approach, then red when you get to the selected distance.
If the batteries were dead, then you wouldn't even get the amber light, so you'd know something was amiss.

Took all of 5 minutes to mount and have working.

nothing is 100% foolproof, but if you're really worried i got an idea that'll cost you zilch, get an old tyre, cut in half with chainsaw/angle grinder etc screw in two halves on back wall with tread side out, bang away all you want! no batteries to die, won't budge(unless you really try hard!)

Haha at anyone who buys this…
Compensation for the incompetence in parking in a garage? How did you even get a license…

  • Can someone please vote positive for humour? I'm all alone

Remember we're voting on if its a good deal, not if its a good device.
2 sensors for $25 is good in my book (assuming they work; GE is a 'big name')

You could get inventive and mount these on the front & rear of your car, for parking assistance anywhere (although I doubt they're suitably waterproof).

      Great thinking….

They will match my hearing aid / granny panties coloured car perfectly.

hmmm, i was under the impression voting was based upon it being both a quality device and good deal. how silly of me. :(
