    • Hey JV, looks like their masks are totally different from what they display.

        Nah, same design

        • No, JV, it is not the same design as the one in the YouTube video you linked to. The new design has the ability to allow ear equalising. The youtube video you linked to is the old design without any way to equalise your ears which makes it a surface to 1M mask only.

            • @jv: Haha. Actually I watched the same video when that design came out. It confirmed what I thought of it. If the new design doesn't fog up it would open up snorkelling to people who get freaked out about using a snorkel and/or feel claustrophobic in a trad mask.

The design looks like it addresses a big design flaw with the original design that didn't have any means of equalising your ears.
The design of similar-looking masks without the rubber equaliser mean you can not equalise your ears to remove the pressure that builds in them when you go below 1M in depth. Failing to equalise your ears will cause permanent damage to the inner ear and result in tinnitus and can cause a burst eardrum. Also those masks fog up quickly because you are exhaling into the air space. They are suitable for surface snorkelling only and for that purpose, may be a good option for those who have issues using a traditional mask and snorkel for snorkelling on the surface. I haven't tried the design with an equaliser so I'd be interested in the OP's experience with the mask. Does it fog up?

    • Yes, this is one of the bigger flaws. I like to dive down to around 15m at times. Around 3m+ and you will start getting a headache etc from the pressure. They need to add a side tab that pinches the nose piece.

That being said, the average newbie snorkeller hardly gets below the surface. So this is definitely for entry level snorkellers only.

Whoever down-voted my comment, Why the downvote? My comments on the previous design are valid and I'm not bagging the new design that addresses the major flaw in the previous design. I'd be interested in trying one of these to see if the equaliser design works ok.

The Equaliser mask is an interesting design to overcome one of the biggest gripes about these masks, actually have me considering picking one up: https://ninjashark.com.au/product/equaliser-full-face-snorke…

I like they've covered the whole 'beard' issue as well: https://ninjashark.com.au/blog/do-full-face-snorkel-masks-wo…

Hirsute hipsters will be happy (tic).

  • You can find similar (if not identical) equalizer masks on amazon.com.au for half the price (if not cheaper). Mine cost $44. It's a shame - I would prefer to support an Australian company but not at 150% markup sorry.

    • Fair call, this looks like the exact same mask: https://www.amazon.com.au/Hommays-Anti-Leak-Technology-Equal…

Yes and there are a few others at sub $50

    • Depends who paid for the R&D. Was it the aussies?

R&D ain't free. So, 150% markup is incorrect.

      • Lol definitely not these guys. The retail cost with mark up is around $50, sold by quite a few other retailers with their own retail mark up. There is nothing unique in this product except for the logo printed on after manufacture.

Anyhoo as an ozbargain post, at 3 x the price it ain't no bargain.

        • Fair enough. Who did develop it, do you know?

          • @justtoreply: I believe it was Tribord, a French sports company that developed the Easybreath (sold under subea). The equaliser versions may have been developed by another company, possibly AQUAEGIS or Cobra or may be even Tribord again. There is a photo of all of the prototypes Tribord developed on the Ninja Shark website and it includes the equaliser version so who knows..
