    Confirmed working. Screenshot here.

    Thx OP.

    • Yep, if transferring a lot do a test one if you want to be certain but all good for me too. Thanks OP!

  • No mention of it when I log into flybuys. Still showing as the 870 transfer rate. Is there a specific link?

    • +3

No. For some reason it's not advertised.

Just transfer as usual, you WILL see the bonus. See my screenshot above.

  • What is the usual rate

    • 2000 flybuys = 870 Velocity

  • So, if I convert the points from Flybuys to Velocity and then from Velocity to Flybuy, do I get 15% more flybuys points? And, if I can, how many times can I transfer?

    • +1

      Velocity to Flybuy

you cannot transfer to velocity point to anything as far as i know.

      • +2

        to KrisFlyer

  • +1

    2000 flybuys = 870 + 131 = 1001 velocity points
You can transfer to the limit of 130+k flybuys points a year

    • +1

Yeah used to no cap last time there was 20% transfer.

  • nice… was waiting for this

The offer is directly listed if click on link below

    https://experience.velocityfrequentflyer.com/partners-offers…

    • When I click on this, I certainly see the offer. But when I go through the process of transferring, the 15% bonus doesn’t appear.

I’ve gone to the final step, but not clicked ‘confirm’.

  • Can confirm it's working. Thanks.

  • Thanks.

Was not aware of this avenue or offer. Only had <18k Flybuys points but had also never used Flybys for anything.

Figured I might as well consolidate them down. The bonus showed up immediately for me.

  • +2

What are velocity points good for? If I don't fly much that is.

    • You can redeem gift cards but the value is bad when you compare it to business class flight. It is all about how to maximise the value of your hard earned points.

  • Not overly hurried to convert flybuys given no expiry unlie the amex devaluation coming…. is there regularly a chance to get a better bonus rate tf than the 15% for those i the bottom band of points for converting? or is 15% as good as it gets?

    • There have been some occasional better offers but they’re usually tied to transferring a huge amount of points.

      • How much is a huge amount of points? I have about 80k flybuys, about $400 in grocery dollars but I presume it's nowhere near the 'huge amount' cutoff? In which case the lower tier point transfers is there never really a 20%-25% bonus worth waiting for?

        • This was one from mid 2018 (not a specific flybuys one but relevant I think)

1 to 100,000 = 15% Bonus Velocity Frequent Flyer Points
100,001 to 250,000 = 20% Bonus Velocity Frequent Flyer Points
250,001 to 500,000 = 25% Bonus Velocity Frequent Flyer Points
500,001 to 750,000 = 30% Bonus Velocity Frequent Flyer Points
750,001 plus = 40% Bonus Velocity Frequent Flyer Points

          • @ldt: i saw flybuys and it says you can't transfer more than just over 100k flybuys which i like 60-70k velocity points per calendar year? So i dont think these tiers would be relevant?

            • @SaberX: No cap when that happens

            • @SaberX: They remove the cap for these.

          • @ldt: I think the 2018 was a one-off or not very common offer though… I doubt there will be another offer over 20% tbh but who knows maybe i'm wrong..

  • Thanks OP!

I know I’m being overly lazy by asking but why is it everyone is overly excited to transfer their points across? Where lies the better value in Velocity points? Genuine question

    • I think people doing that might have substantially more points in their Velocity account than flybuys

So it's a good opportunity to consolidate points

Besides that, I don't know if one value proposition is better than the other

    • I use Velocity to score free flights and upgrades. I get Flybuys on nearly everything thanks to a rewards card.

    • Just about to book a free business class flight to the UK with points I’ve mostly transferred through flybuys.

      • can i ask how many points for the whole return flight (velocity points wise)? see my other comment below - i struggled to compare a points flight to just using the flybuys points on groceries in terms of it seemed pretty comparable? NOt sure if im mising something.

        • Anywhere from 400,000 points to 800,000.
Depends what you want more I guess?

    • Signed up for the ANZ travel card, got 80k points. Adding my flybuys gets me some nice overseas trips for two return :) although 80k already did that for a few places :).

      • was that economy? I did some dummy bookings and perth to melb return one way is 21.5k points already. a perth to zurich trip on business alone is like 230-260k points one way, and it's the 30hr mlti connections rather than the more direct routes which are all sold out? SO that would imply close to 460k+ for a return tickt on business to zurich even?

I thought qantas is like 270k points gets your an around the world tickets through various countries so somehow i can't work out where velocity rewards work out?

even using the perth to melb example the 43k points needed for return would be equialent to just over $400 fly buys points, whereas buying that sort of flight would be about $500+ at most peak times when using cash only??

        am i missing something?

        • Yeah economy,

NZ, Fiji, Vanuatu and Avarua are around 90k for 2 pax return.

This is what the app is reporting, no idea if seats are available or when.

        • Another trick is to transfer to krisflyer and get cheaper award flights from krisflyer.

    • I use Velocity for fuel discount. I go to BP anyway (cheaper than Shell and same as Liberty/local servos)

  • 10,010 Velocity points worth more than $100?

    • $110-$130.

    • +2

Syd to Melb reward seat is 7,800pts + cash $23.39 AUD Taxes.
Many times you can get flights worth $150 or $200 on this route for the above points and cash. Velocity points are good for domestic flights I think

      • Yes Velocity points are better in this regard. I travel interstate for the soccer and Velocity points needed for flights stayed the same, whereas Qantas bumped it up ridiculously for last minute flights.

  • Thanks for the post. I'll wait till 27th Feb to transfer all my flybuys points.

  • If you've got a Citibank. Transfer those to flybuys and then on to velocity for a double 15% bonus.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/436633

edit - only marginally beneficial. Really need to wait for a flybuys 20% to make it truly worthwhile due to the poor flybuys to velocity standard rate.

  • +2

Just an FYI, the unknown bonus promotion from this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/432686 ended up only giving bonus 98 points for 1 transfer. These 15% deals worked out much better.

    • You mean per 2000 right, not per transfer?

      • I only transferred 2000 flybuys so I don't know what other got. The wording of the deal made it sound like the bonus points were split between the total number of transfers mad editing the period.
