70

Vegan hiking-inspired boots by Bourgeois Boheme. They're made from plant-based material Pinatex, derived from pineapple leaf fibres. The leaves are a by-product of the fruit harvest, so no extra resources are needed to produce them.

Vegan hiking boots. These millennials are going wild.

So what you're saying is that innocent plants had to be tortured and killed just to make these boots?! Disgusting. I will NEVER support a company that doesn't respect the rights and agency of living beings.

Worse, how many animals are crushed on each step on a hiking trail?
Not even counting the microscopic ones, each hike is a slaughter of ants, slaters, beetles - all sorts of surface-dwelling arthropod, molluscs and even chordates.

True vegans go barefoot. Preferably naked, so as to minimised their carbon footprint, as nature intended.

True vegans recognize that their very existence is an unbearable strain on the planet's resources, and kill themselves. It's the only logical response.

    I wear leather.

  • Saw this and thought to myself wow thats expensive for a pair of Timberlands,

I hear these are great boots for hunting.

    • +3

      Shhh … i'm hunting cawwots.

  • Where would they get the strength to lift their legs with these boots on?

I'm not vegan but the amount of shit anyone mentioning that word cops is pretty ludicrous. I know plenty of "alternative" people and none of them push their beliefs on me, contrary to what all the news articles you read may imply.

    • It does seem a superiority thing. The catch is that it probably takes massive amounts of energy to process these fibers; it does for bamboo fibre (and copious amounts of water). People into paleo and who profess to be vegan - we all know who they are, so they obviously feel the need to let us know :) It's easy to lessen your impact on the environment and it doesn't need ideologies that only the wealthy (in most cases) can afford. These things seem to be the token gesture for making someone feel good without actually doing anything. Composting would be a more effective contribution :)

I am not vegan, but I think you're generalizing a lot and also saying a lot of baseless things in your comment. The energy to process fibers and water consumption for example, sure there are energy and water requirements for a vegan lifestyle, but is it equal or more than non-vegans? Cows take a lot of those. Same with composting. The wealthy is probably spot on though, but this is a very wealthy country so a very large proportion of this country would fall in that category.

On top of that, none of the vegan jokes on this page are new and no one has a brand new take on things. It's a bunch of stale cornballs stumbling over each to repeat jokes we all read on Facebook 10+ years ago. With so many of you, I guarantee that you're grating and irritating to everyone that knows you in real life. No way does someone stumble in here with 'Free The Fibers' type jokes and at the same time have a life where they're a respected member of any family or community. Let my message be a wake up call!

      • You sound hangry. Try eating a steak sometime, it'll clear that right up ;)

I'm not vegan. I'm just regular man, like many a regular man, that's tired of grandmas like yourself repeating jokes we've all seen posted 100 times before. It's gotta end some day and I say why not today? With a little effort, some planning, and a long hard look in the mirror, you can turn your low-quality personality around before the year is out. And that goes not just for you but all the grandma 'jokesters' on this thread. You don't have to go around with a rubbish personality the rest of your lives. It doesn't have to be that way.

          • @garworsby: Stop taking yourself so seriously! There are plenty of jokes older than you that are still funny.

          • @garworsby: You sound just like my grumpy grandma.

These look understated. I'm looking for a pair that tells the world they are vegan. A bit like the tattoo on my forehead.

I had these and a koala ate them.

  • +5

The term "hiking-inspired" does not instill a sense of confidence in the quality.

  • These look exactly how I imagined vegan boots would look. They look like they will rot away if they get wet.

Back when I was a boy I couldn't afford leather boots, I had to buy the cheapy faux leather boots.
Now through excellent marketing targeted to millenials with more dollars than sense
I now can't afford faux leather boots, I have to buy the genuine leather boots instead!!
