The Best Credit Card You Can Get if Spending A$30,000?

Hello OZB community and veterans,

I have to pay for uni tuition fee of $30,000 by Friday this week.

  1. What would be the best credit card to apply for considering the amount of this transaction?

  2. Could I get the card by Friday if I apply today?

I travel with Skyteam airlines (e.g. ANA) and Virgin Australia. Currently have an Amex platinum edge like most of you do.

    Can you even get a credit card limit that high? Better if I don't know. You won't receive it by Friday, let alone be approved.

    I'm sitting down & grabbing the popcorn for this thread.

      I thought Platinum Edge should be good enough? Not the most optimal but better than nothing. Just watch out for the fees and earn rate.

      The other trouble is Amex don't particularly like people going into credits (and way above it) so you might need to pay the uni then deposit cash…rinse and repeat till the $30k is all sorted.

        Thanks Mini2, my amex limit is about $23,000.. or deposit cash first then pay?

          Clear out whatever credit is on your card currently then make the deposit to get you across the line to sort out the remainder.

          You could probably apply for a credit limit increase on your AMEX and get a $30k+ limit almost insantly.

          Other cards that give a very high limit on application:
          Citi Signature
          ANZ Black

          Getting one by Friday though..no chance. Not even enough time to post it to you.

    Have you thought about it from a different angle - find someone on here or elsewhere who's happy to put through the $30k for you, the person to pay you $120 per $10k being processed (assuming your uni charges no fee and earn rate is 1:1) then you go on your merry way to buy the points from someone else should the other person don't want to jeopardise their VA account. Convoluted but it's a possible avenue.

    Have you checked what types of payments/cards they'll accept and any surcharge?
    Sometimes it works out cheaper to pay via bank transfer or eftpos.

    Can't you just credit 30k into whichever card that you intend to use?
