  i've used the fuel cleaner before… not sure if it's a placebo of actually works.

  any knowledgable mechanics out there to offer an opinion on this and the other products?

    I've used two other brands of diesel injector cleaner in my diesel outlander. The car was shuddering, lacking power/decent acceleration, and smokey due to dirty/blocked injectors which stemmed from a cracked air intake pipe which made the fuel mix(?) too rich and caused issues.

    After using the diesel injector cleaner there is a very definite improvement in performance. I.e. car does not shudder, has decent acceleration, and does not release clouds of smoke.

    I used to (with first petrol car, and as recommended by my retired mechanic neighbour) add a bottle of Kero to the fuel tank. It would burn at a higher temp and would "clean" the engine. It seemed to work.

    They’re all pretty legit except the magical “treatment” ones.

    With the fuel cleaner I would change the fuel filter first, you don’t want to soften and release any sludge in there.
