4K Monitor for Excel and Photos

Hi all,

I have a 27" 1080HD Samsung monitor that I use for browsing, excel and photos. Excel and photos are tough as the quality is poor. I'm using a MacbookPro with HDMI cord.

I would like to get a higher resolution monitor and need some advice.

I won't be doing any gaming.

I'm currently looking at the Samsung 28" 16:9 3840x2160 UHD 4K LED Monitor (LU28E590DS/XY) for $399 which will be 15% off on eBay store tomorrow.

Should I be looking at other models or specs?

depending on your desk space / viewing distance

4k is best suited for 32"

    • viewing distance is 'close' :/

Does your Macbook Pro even support 4k? if not, don't even bother spending the money on a screen you won't get the most out of.

    • I must say that 4k is not a requirement - I just thought it would be best for clarity. My Mac has LED-backlit 13.3" 2560x1600 which is awsome. However I loose a lot of quality when using the Samsung 1920 x 1080.

I think 1440p would be enough for Excel, payoff is better if you have 2 x 1440p monitors vs 1 x 4k.

I have an IPS 4K 27 inch monitor primarily for Excel work at home.

I actually find it straining to look at at the native 4K because the whilst the text is crisp, it's freaking small (sitting a bit further than arm's length away).

    • Agree - I tried coming back to Civ VI at 4K and it was gorgeous but I found myself 10cms away from the screen to read anything!

What are you looking at 4k for specifically? To pixel peep your photos? Or more real estate to spread the spreadsheets out? Considered 2x 24" monitors instead? Or an IPS monitor to get arguably better colours for your photos?

    • Thanks for the feed back - perhaps 4k isn't what I'm after and really just need the same quality as my Mac screen (2560x1600) on something larger

Expired now but this is a good deal.

    • thanks - might be a bit big for me though
