Ah, no, the refurb link indicates one year warranty as opposed to two years for the 'new' version.

As a usenet user, this is much easier for a lot of things, especially local, live/topical or sport.
I keep fta stuff like MKR and Bondi rescue for the kids and we can watch it when we want, and skip the ads.
Also the news, and sport on fta can be recorded or paused whilst watching.
Importantly it has the ability to pause and rewind live tv, so I can pause a show for a few minutes, make some dinner, then sit down at my leisure and watch, ff through the ads.Used in conjunction with kodi and foxtel/Kayo, this allows full coverage and control of pretty much all media content.
For the price it is a good deal imho.
Can you run kodi on this?
no. kodi runs on other devices.
I am not aware of any device that is a good kodi player and a good fta recorder. Kind of different features in recording and pausing live tv with a tv guide.@PainToad: forgive me, but kodi is software, and a pvr is hardware with software (the r=recorder). So please let us know what hardware will run kodi player and pvr (eg, 1tb+ storage, gb network and 3+tuners with fta guide like fetch) for under $300. I am interested.
For reference I have a sony tv that runs kodi, a foxtel iq box (may switch to kayo) and fetch mighty. My kodi software/tv is connected to a server with 10tb+. The fetch works well recording fta.Can a shield integrate 3+ tuners and a guide because that is next on my list.
@PainToad: Been there done that (as an experiment as I do use Kodi as Media player via Rasp Pi).
Kodi as a PVR (in my opinion) is more for a hobbyist and requires a reasonably powerful PC which costs $$ especially if using multiple tuners. Freezing can also be an issue hence wouldn't call it a very reliable PVR. Mine no doubt needs more tweaking.I put it aside and returned to Out of the box PVR's like this one. Much easier.
@PainToad: Yes, we know. It is software. To run it you need hardware. Fetch is hardware and software.
Using kodi as a pvr requires a hdd and fta tuners. Then you need enough grunt in a cpu/ram as well, and networking. For under $300, fetch gives you reliable dedicated hardware.
None of the cheap kodi boxes I am aware of will provide the same pvr functionality.To buy the hardware to make kodi as good a pvr as fetch would require more dollars and still not be as reliable. If you live alone and tinker, it may work out 90% of the time. If you have kids or other family who want a simple experience, fetch is pretty good.
You can also record the internet channels if you get the entertainment package - not just free to air. So we record the NBA and football on ESPN, documentaries on Nat Geo, and classic British shows on UK TV to watch it at times that suit us.

Lol. A Raspberry Pi is more than enough for both Kodi and Sonarr. Under $100 and you’re set.
Or Netflix or Prime. I always thought the subscription channels on Fetch were video on demand. So I wasn't too happy after subscribing when I found those channels were fixed time broadcast just like free to air with no option to view earlier episodes.
TBH, there are times when I don't mind having something chosen for me thanks to a schedule. I like to just browse a couple of channels and say "hey, I'll watch that show" without having to drill down into having to choose an episode as well.
I wish you were able to make your own playlists on Netflix/Prime so you could get it to randomly play eps (probably more suited for sitcoms than other genres, though).

This thing is awesome, but seriously 800GB is too little, and no upgrade option/external USB. 585 hours of SD, not HD.
On top of that, they have disabled viewing of recordings from the subscribed channels unless you are subscribing.Crikey, how much would you record? Notwithstanding the 585 hours being SD, that's 24 days worth of content.
As pricey as it is, until the Vodafone TV fixes it's recording issues, I'm considering a Fetch for the FTA content we watch (tbh, mostly pausing to delay start time, rather then hardcore content building) and Fetch combined with Netflix/Prime/Stan/Kayo would cover our needs.
But as an aside, thank you for pointing out the hours claimed for being SD.
You are far more optimistic than I am.
First, it is SD.
Second, it doesn't include the fact half of the recording is just ads and buffer. No, I'm not exaggerating if you consider 5-10 minutes buffer at the start and end, plus 5 mins ads on popular shows like mafs.
Third, it has a partition of 200gb of space, and it is only for downloaded movies.I also like to keep old records of shows/movies/march I like. During the fifa World Cup I'm dying for more storage.
Seriously, don't you see being able to upgrade the hard drive or use external USB n eternally keep as many records as you can?
Finally, fetch has gone above and beyond making sure even the most tech savy person unable to upgrade the drive. Why? I don't know.

I feel you, it took me a while to get used to fetch after they killed my tivo. But now I am used to it, it is ok, defintely worthwhile for under $300. Can't remember what I paid for my tivo but it was a lot more.

Bit of a tangent, but does anyone happen to know if an iinet branded Fetch TV can be re-used or sold? I have one that I can't do anything with on account of them not being my ISP anymore.
