Was watching 'Star Trek:Into Darkness' and thought how good it would look in 4K. Went looking and was surprised Big W had it for $25. Also noticed Jurassic box set 4K. This is currently $124 at JBHIFI and $102 on Amazon AU.

Seems like a Bargain.
Note: There was stock at my not quite local store 'Narellan'

Each Jurassic film seems to be selling for $30 each. So $55 for 5 movies is good.

Bluray is $35 for the same set.

i’m melbourne 3000 and no stores within 15 km have stock.

  • Great bargain. Need to drive 40 mins but I'll make it a day trip :)

Mine says delivery for $3.90, although it also says 'conditions apply'

    • My NEAREST Big W is 30 mins away, their store locations aren't that smart considering it's Woolies.

  • Thanks for that! Been looking for some good value 4k movies for my new oled.

  • Does it need to play with 4k player? I only have PS4 and 4k TV at home.

    • +3

Pretty sad but no. Not even the PS4 Pro does 4k Bluray. Xbox One S will though. Runs Kodi and VLC as well and if you get one on sale, it's cheaper than a dedicated UHD Bluray player as MSRP.

    • +2

It includes blu-ray discs so can still play on the PS4. But you cannot play the 4k discs unfortunately without a separeate 4k player or Xbox

I still want the d box motion chairs to go with the Jurassic park 3d http://www.visionliving.com.au/home-cinema/d-box-motion-simu…

Someone who knows what they’re talking about.
Home theatre with D-box for the win!!!

      • I tested them out at the home show last year, but the price is still a barrier :(

    Woohoo thanks op

Shows you the massive markup on 4k. Then the movie studios wonder why sales are crap, and people are pirating or subscribing to 4k streaming only.

    • +1

I stream 4k with NBN fttp. works great, but I think bluray 4k is a higher bitrate than any steaming service uses. not the most people care or could tell.

      • +2

Did some googling on this recently and I walked away from my googling with the impression that Netflix 4k (I assume that's what we are talking about) is not even on par with Blu-ray.

But goes to your point, most people probably wouldnt be able to tell anyway.

        • +3

Netflix compresses the hell out of video. Just look at any scene with a foggy, dark ambience and you’ll see the compression artifacts, even at 4K.

Unless the content your streaming has very little motion, then compression is more of an issue than pixel count.

But it saves them money, improves streaming performance, and most users don’t notice.

    • As opposed to the price of bluray, or in general?
As mentioned above, it comes with bluray as and well so really you're paying $20 more for a 4k set as well?

They seem to be releasing a new one every two years now so I wouldn't buy this thinking I have a complete trilogy

    • +1

      trilogy

      • double trilogy?

        • Trilogy + 1 + sequel?

      • +1

        Like Hitchhiker’s Guide.

Mostly Harmless was marketed as “the fifth book in the increasingly inaccurately named Hitchhiker’s trilogy”.

$55 for 1 good Jurassic Park movie isn't a good deal.

    • Malcolm is that you?

    • 2 good JP movies. Second one is awesome. The rest is forgettable especially the latest two films.

      • But but there are dinosaurs & that guy from Law & Order :)

  • Not too bad, however there is another movie to go in the 6 set. So buying 5 kinda seems like going early.

I remember going to the premiere of Jurassic Park, me and my mates got quoted in our local newspaper about what we thought of the film. I wonder what I would have said if they told me that in 26 years time you'll need to pay $55 to buy this film along with some average sequels.

    • Was epic at the cinemas as a kid. I had a family friend who had a mad crush on the chick. Also same year NBA jam was released on a console I believe. One of the first things I saved for. Was $120 at Virgin which is like $250 now.

The OG is the one worth watching

The question is why did they call it the "Jurassic World" Collection? It will always be Jurassic Park, no matter how hard they try to push the crappy new movies.

    • +1

Fallen Kingdom… really is Fallen Kingdom.

  • Not a surprise these are discounted now that I, II & III have hit Netflix.

This is $49.99 on itunes at the moment as well for those in the digital streaming world. I'm not here to argue streaming vs Bluray. Each have their merits.

The Cheapcharts app says the price ranges from $70 at it's maximum to $40 at its lowest. Maybe worth waiting to save that extra $10. It's the Ozbargain way.

    • I got them all for ~$20USD for US iTunes.

Got this last time (end November 2018) for same price. Can't believe JB sell this for $124, Sanity $115 & Amazon AU $102.75.
